We report a new Cretaceous multituberculate mammal with 3 D auditory bones preserved. Along with other fossil and extant mammals, the unequivocal auditory bones display features potentially representing ancestral phenotypes of the mammalian middle ear. These phenotypes show that the ectotympanic and the malleus-incus complex changed notably during their retreating from the dentary at various evolutionary stages and suggest convergent evolution of some features to extant mammals. In contrast, the incudomalleolar joint was conservative in having a braced hinge configuration, which narrows the morphological gap between the quadroarticular jaw joint of non-mammalian cynodonts and the incudomalleolar articulations of extant mammals. The saddle-shaped and abutting malleus-incus complexes in therians and monotremes, respectively, could have evolved from the braced hinge joint *** evolutionary changes recorded in the Mesozoic mammals are largely consistent with the middle ear morphogenesis during the ontogeny of extant mammals, supporting the relation between evolution and development.

Background high deductible health plans(hDhPs)are associated with the avoidance of both necessary and unnecessary *** hernia repair(UhR)is a procedure that is frequently unnecessarily performed in young children,contrary to best practice *** hypothesized that children with hDhPs,as compared with other types of commercial health plans,are less likely to undergo UhR before 4 years of age but are also more likely to have UhR delayed beyond 5 years of *** Children aged 0-18 years old residing in metropolitan statistical areas(MSAs)who underwent UhR in 2012-2019 were identified in the IBM Marketscan Commercial Claims and Encounters Database.A quasi-experimental study design using MSA/year-level hDhP prevalence among children as an instrumental variable was employed to account for selection bias in hDhP ***-stage least squares regression modeling was used to evaluate the association between hDhP coverage and age at *** A total of 8601 children were included(median age 5 years,IQR 3-7).Univariable analysis revealed no differences between the hDhP and non-hDhP groups in the likelihood of UhR being performed before 4 years of age(27.7%vs 28.7%,p=0.37)or after 5 years of age(39.8%vs 38.9%,p=0.52).Geographical region,metropolitan area size,and year were associated with hDhP *** variable analysis demonstrated no association between hDhP coverage and undergoing UhR at5 years of age(p=0.87).Conclusions hDhP coverage is not associated with age at pediatric *** studies should investigate other means by which UhRs in young children can be avoided.

We present a rare case of a 45-year-old woman who presented with epigastric pain associated with early satiety and weight loss. Imaging revealed a large intraabdominal mass in the epigastrium. Despite intensive investigations, including ultrasound scanning, computed tomography, upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, and percutaneous biopsy, a diagnosis could not be obtained. A histological diagnosis of cavernous hemangioma arising from the gastro-splenic ligament was confirmed after laparoscopic excision and histological examination of the intra-abdominal epigastric mass.

Insufficient supply, high prices and competition with the human food and biofuel industries means there is a continuous demand for alternative energy sources for poultry. As a result, cassava is becoming an increasingly important ingredient in poultry diets, largely due to its high availability. Efficient use of cassava products has been shown to reduce feed costs of poultry production. The utilisation of cassava is,however, limited by a number of factors, including its high fibre and low energy content and the presence of anti-nutritional factors, primarily hydrocyanic acid(hCN). With correct processing the inclusion level of cassava in poultry diets could be increased. Extensive research has been conducted on cassava products for poultry, but there is still a lack of consistency amongst the measured nutritive values for cassava and its products, hence variation exists in results from poultry studies. This paper reviews the nutrient composition of cassava products and its value as an alternative energy source in poultry diets.

The majority of previous research evaluating the effects of acute exercise on episodic memory function have focused on explicit memory tasks involving word-list *** a more real-world application,the present experiment evaluates whether high-intensity acute exercise can improve episodic memory function of incidentally processed information as well as increase one’s ability to remember names associated with faces(face-name paradigm).A two-arm,parallel-group,randomized controlled intervention was ***(N=91;M_(age)=20 years)were randomized into one of two groups,including an experimental group and a control *** experimental group exercised for 20 min on a treadmill at a high-intensity(75%of heart rate reserve),while the control group engaged in a seated,time-matched *** memory was assessed from an intentional processing face-name paradigm in which participants encoded and subsequently recalled names that were paired with *** memory for incidentally processed information was evaluated with a computerized program involving spatial-temporal *** mean(SD)number of correctly recalled face-name pairs between the exercise and control groups,respectively,for immediate memory were 11.16(4.4)and 9.79(4.3),P>*** were similar for incidentally processed information,in that there were no differences between the exercise[7.30(1.7)]and control[7.52(1.9)]groups,P>***,we did not observe evidence that high-intensity acute exercise improves episodic memory for incidentally or intentionally processed information.

The discovery of Asgard archaea and the exploration of their diversity over the last 6 years have deeply impacted the scientific community working on eukaryogenesis,rejuvenating an intense debate on the topology of the universal tree of life(uTol).here,we discuss how this debate is impacted by two recent publications that expand the number of Asgard lineages and eukaryotic signature proteins(ESPs).We discuss some of the main difficulties that can impair the phylogenetic reconstructions of the uTol and suggest that the debate about its topology is not *** notably hypothesize the existence of horizontal gene transfers between ancestral Asgards and proto-eukaryotes that could result in the observed abnormal behaviors of some Asgard ESPs and universal marker *** hypothesis is relevant regardless of the scenario considered regarding *** implies that the Asgards were already diversified before the last eukaryotic common ancestor and shared the same biotopes with *** suggest that some Asgards might be still living in symbiosis today with modern Eukarya.
