Population isolation shapes plant genetics, phenotype and germination in naturally patchy ecosystems

Aims Habitat connectivity is important in conservation since isolation can diminish the potential of a population for adaptation and increase its risk of ***,conservation of naturally patchy ecosystems such as peatlands has mainly focused on preserving specific sites with exceptional characteristics,neglecting the poten-tial interconnectivity between *** order to better under-stand plant dynamics within a peatland network,we assessed the effect of population isolation on genetic distinctiveness,phenotypic variations and germination rates using the peatland-obligate white-fringed orchid(Platanthera blephariglottis).Methods Fifteen phenotypic traits were measured for 24 individuals per pop-ulation(20 distinct populations,Quebec,Canada)and germination rates of nearly 20000 seeds were *** distinctiveness was quantified for 26 populations using single nucleotide polymor-phism markers obtained via a pooled genotyping-by-sequencing *** isolation was measured as the distance to the nearest population and as the number of populations occurring in concentric buffer zones(within a radius of 2,5 and 10 km)around the studied *** Findings All phenotypic traits showed significant differences among *** results also indicated a pattern of isolation-by-distance,which suggests that seed and/or pollen exchange is restricted ***,all phenotypic traits,as well as a reduced germination rate,were correlated with either geographic isolation or genetic *** conclude that geographic iso-lation likely restricts gene flow,which in turn may affect ***,it is imperative that conservation programs take into account the patchy nature of such ecosystems,rather than targeting a few specific sites with exceptional character for preservation.

Perturbation and delayed recovery of the reed invertebrate assemblage in Camargue marshes sprayed with Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis

Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis （Bti） is the most commonly used larvicide to control mosquitoes worldwide. Considered as nontoxic to most organisms, Bti can nevertheless cause trophic perturbations to natural communities by reducing the abundance of Chironomidae, which are a key element of wetland food webs. Since August 2006, up to 8400 of the 33 000 ha of mosquito larval biotopes in the Camargue （Rh6ne delta, in southern France）, are monitored by a public agency and Bti-sprayed （aqueous solution of VectoBac 12AS at 2.5 L/ha） whenever mosquito larvae （Ochlerotatus easpius and Oc. detritus） appeared in water bodies. This resulted in 30-50 aerial treatments/year, in addition to ground spraying of unknown frequency. The sprayed habitats include Phragmites australis reedbeds, which support a specific avifauna of conservation concern. We compared the abundance of invertebrate prey available to passerine birds at treated and control sites relative to the predicted values based on hydrology over a 9-year period. Food available to reed passerines was significantly reduced at treated areas, translating into a 34% decrease in breeding birds based on predictive modeling. The most affected arthropods were Diptera, Aranaea, Coleoptera, and Hymenoptera. No cumulative effects were observed over time, but the recovery of the invertebrate assemblage after the cessation of mosquito control was delayed due to Bti spore persistence and proliferation in the sediments. While hydrology remains a prime factor influencing primary and secondary productivity of the Camargue reed marshes, Bti spraying had significant negative effects on animal communities at several trophic levels.

This study examines the influence of green supply chain management(GSCM)practices and green culture on green performance in the manufacturing sector through the mediating effect of proactive environmental strategy(PES)and green product innovation(GPI).A quantitative approach was followed,and partial least squares structural equation modeling(PLS-SEM)was used for hypothesis testing.A questionnaire was used to collect data,and 663 questionnaires were included in the final *** to our expectations,the results showed that GscM practices do not influence green performance,whereas green culture is positively related to green *** results show that PES and GPI explain the relationship between GSCM practices,green culture,and green *** and GPI sequentially mediated GSCM practices,green culture,and green ***,PES and GPI significantly improved green *** study aims to extend the scholarly appreciation of GscM practices and the impact of green culture on green performance by examining the mediating effects of PES and GPI on these *** implications and future research avenues are also discussed.

This paper introduces a caching technique based on a volumetric representation that captures low-frequency indirect *** structure is intended for efficient storage and manipulation of *** is based on a 3D grid that stores a fixed set of irradiance *** preprocessing,this representation can be built using almost any existing global illumination *** rendering,the indirect illumination within a voxel is interpolated from its associated irradiance vectors,and is used as additional local light *** with other techniques,the 3D vector-based representation of our technique offers increased robustness against local geometric variations of a *** thus demonstrate that it may be employed as an efficient and high-quality caching data structure for bidirectional rendering techniques such as particle tracing or photon mapping.

偏瘫患者的肩痛是一个常见症状,治疗仍然困难。我院25个康复病床收治的这类患者,常有失眠,需用药物镇痛,降低生活质量。偏瘫肩发病机制仍不清楚。我们想探讨病因,注意到单侧废用可能起作用。有报道认为,80%的偏瘫病人有肩痛。常出现于脑血管意外 CVA)后第一周,也可出现于第一年中的任何时期。Brocklehurst等观察到107例 CVA 患者发病2周后21例出现肩痛,一年内又出现另外37例。

文章本着探索中国老人和美国老人对使用以咨询为基础的服务的不同态度的目的,以150位中国老人和145位美国老人为样本,采用"害怕亲近量表"调查了中美老年人对专业帮助服务态度的现状,比较了中美老年人对专业帮助服务所持态度的不同特点。结果发现:相较美国老人,中国老人对专业帮助的态度更不积极;不同的因素影响着中国老人和美国老人对帮助服务的信心。
