Introduction: People in rural communities are exposed to the risk factors for non-communicable disease as those in urban areas. Correct interpretation and management of symptoms are important in primary care especially in rural communities where diagnostic facilities are not readily available. Materials and Methods: This was a cross-sectional study carried out in a village in Enugu South Local Government area of Enugu State. Thorough medical history was taken from all eligible participants who gave their consent. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 26. Results: Data from a total of 1019 (64.7%) out of 1576 participants were analysed. fever was by far the most common presenting complaint 580 (56.9%) of all participants and 67.9% of medical complaints seen in the clinic. This was followed remotely by musculoskeletal problems and neurological problems 15.6% and 3.8% of the participants respectively. Across all age groups, febrile illness was more than non-febrile illness except in those 65 years. Generalized body pains 74 (7.3%), back pains 55 (5.1), headache 33 (3.2%) and abdominal pains 24 (2.4%) were the commonest symptoms presented by the participants. About 15 (1.5%) of the population surveyed had had trauma/surgery in the past. This was twice the number who presented to the clinic with symptoms related to injury and trauma 7 (0.7%). Conclusions: fever and musculoskeletal pains are the dominant medical complaints presented by adults in a rural community clinic. This may be related to the season of the year and the occupation of the population studied.

The analysis of closed claims and litigations can provide an invaluable tool to improve patient safety by minimizing adverse anesthesia-related outcomes. Analysis of collective data describing such claims is integral to develop new guidelines aimed to reduce adverse anesthesia-related events. In this study, we give a descriptive analysis of anesthesia-related claims at the Detroit Medical Center, Detroit, MI, USA. The study analyzed different components in anesthesia-related closed claims and litigations such as medical, demographic and socio-economic factors. from 67,000 procedures in anesthesiology care provider, related cases claims were made in 0.057% (38/67,000) of all cases. The majority of claims involved procedures involving Caucasian females aged 51-55 years. The highest risk periods involved early shift times during monday and Tuesday, particularly of procedures performed during August. About 33% of all cases in which death occurred involved patients who received an Obstetrics/Gynecology or an Orthopedic procedure under general anesthesia. The majority of closed claims and litigations cases were distributed between procedures treating nerves injuries and anoxic encephalopathy. The OR and PACU at urban hospitals had the highest claim rates. MD anesthesiologists constituted the lowest proportion of all anesthesia providers involved in closed claims incidents. The average compensation paid was predominately in the range of $200,000-$250,000. In addition to reporting anesthesia related factors involved in closed claims and litigations this study also includes a series of recommendations which may work as a framework for improving anesthesia practices.

monday River, at Eastern Paraguay is located south of the Itaipu Dam, and discharges into the Paraná River. At the point of discharge it has been projected to build a Hydroelectric power Plant and the reservoir will extend upstream the monday. As a result of the impoundment of a river, the flooded soil can provide a certain amount of nutrients into the aqueous medium setting new conditions for aquatic life and affecting to a greater or lesser degree the ecosystems. The aim of this work is the assessment of the impact on the water quality of the incorporation of major nutrients into the water body after damming monday River. Samples from soil profiles were taken at selected sites on both banks of the river;the amount of phosphorus, nitrogen, potassium, calcium and magnesium as well as other parameters as pH, organic matter, exchangeable bases were determined using standard procedures. Granulometric analysis was also performed. Phosphorus availability was determined by isotopic exchange. In addition the samples were submitted to submersion/incubation experiments along 60 days, and the concentration of elements incorporated into the water analyzed. Results show that flooded soils are low in phosphorus and nitrogen which is scarce in some cases;so does other nutrients. Submersion experiments also indicate generally limited incorporation of such nutrients into the water body. Significant negative impact of these soils on the water quality of the reservoir cannot be expected.
