Protective Effects of Estradiol on Myocardial Contractile Function Following Hemorrhagic Shock and Resuscitation in Rats

Background： Hemorrhagic shock （HS） results in myocardial contractile dysfunction. Studies showed that 17β-estradiol protects the myocardium against contractile dysfunction. The study investigated the cardioprotective effects of treatment with 17β-estradiol before resuscitation following 1 h of HS and resuscitation. Methods： Male Sprague-Dawley rats were assigned to 2 sets of experimental protocols： Ex vivo and in vivo treatment and resuscitation. Each set had three experimental groups （n = 6 per group）： Normotensive （N）, HS and resuscitation （HS-R） and HS rats treated with 17β-estradiol （E） and resuscitated （HS-E-R）. Rats were hemorrhaged over 60-rain to reach a mean arterial blood pressure of 40 mmHg. In the ex vivo group, hearts were resuscitated by perfusion in the Langendorff system. In the 17β-estradiol treated group, 17β-estradiol 280 μg/kg was added for the first 5 min. Cardiac function was measured. Left ventricular generated pressure （LVGP） and ＋dP/dt were calculated. In the in vivo group, rats were treated with 17β-estradiol 280 ±g/kg s.c. after 60-rain HS. Resuscitation was performed in vivo by the reinfusion of the shed blood for 30-min to restore normotension. Results： Treatment with 17β-estradiol before resuscitation in ex vivo treated and resuscitated isolated hearts and in the in vivo treated and resuscitated rats following HS improved myocardial contractile function. In the in vivo treated group, LVGP and ＋dP/dt max were significantly higher in 17β-estradiol treated rats compared to the untreated group （LVGP 136.40 ± 6.61 compared to 47.58 ± 17.55, and ＋dP/dt 661.85 ± 49.88 compared to 88.18 ± 0.85）. Treatment with 17β-estradiol improved LVGP following HS. Conclusions： The results indicate that treatment with 17β-estradiol before resuscitation following HS protects the myocardium against dysfunction.

The goal of this study was to assess the effect of the intermittent combination of an antiresorptive agent （calcitonin） and an anabolic agent （vitamin D3） on treating the detrimental effects of Type 1 diabetes mellitus （DM） on mandibular bone formation and growth. Forty 3-week-old male Wistar rats were divided into four groups： the control group （normal rats）, the control C＋D group （normal rats injected with calcitonin and vitamin D3）, the diabetic C＋D group （diabetic rats injected with calcitonin and vitamin D3） and the diabetic group （uncontrolled diabetic rats）. An experimental DM condition was induced in the male Wistar rats in the diabetic and diabetic C＋ D groups using a single dose of 60 ***-1 body weight of streptozotocin. Calcitonin and vitamin D3 were simultaneously injected in the rats of the control C＋D and diabetic C＋D groups. All rats were killed after 4 weeks, and the right mandibles were evaluated by micro-computed tomography and histomorphometric analysis. Diabetic rats showed a significant deterioration in bone quality and bone formation （diabetic group）. By contrast, with the injection of calcitonin and vitamin D3, both bone parameters and bone formation significantly improved （diabetic C＋ D group）（P 〈 0.05）. These findings suggest that these two hormones might potentially improve various bone properties.

Thermoresponsive dendronized copolymers for protein recognitions based on biotin-avidin interaction

Thermoresponsive biotinylated dendronized copolymers carrying dendritic oligoethylene glycol（OEG）pendants were prepared via free radical polymerization,and their protein recognitions based on biotin-avidin interaction *** first（PG1） and second generation（PG2） dendronized copolymers were designed to examine possible thickness effects on the interaction between biotin and *** from the outstanding thermoresponsive properties from OEG dendrons,these biotinylated cylindrical copolymers show characteristic thermoresponsive behavior which provides an envelope to capture avidin through switching temperatures above or below their phase transition temperatures（T_（cp）s）.Thus,the recognition of polymer-supported biotin with avidin was investigated with UV/vis spectroscopy and dynamic laser light *** contrast to the case for PG1,the increased thickness for copolymer PG2 hinders partially and inhibits the recognition of biotin moieties with avidin either below or above its T_（cp）.This demonstrates the significant architecture effects from dendronized polymers on the biotin moieties to shift onto periphery of the collapsed aggregates,which should be a prerequisite for protein *** kinds of novel thermoresponsive copolymers may pave a way for the interesting biological applications in areas such as reversible activity control of enzyme or proteins,and for controlled delivery of drugs or genes.

Recently,there has been a considerable rise in the number of diabetic patients suffering from diabetic retinopathy(DR).DR is one of the most chronic diseases and makes the key cause of vision loss in middle-aged people in the developed *** detection of DR becomes necessary for decreasing the disease severity by making use of retinal fundus *** article introduces a Deep Learning Enabled Large Scale Healthcare Decision Making for Diabetic Retinopathy(DLLSHDM-DR)on Retinal Fundus *** proposed DLLSHDM-DR technique intends to assist physicians with the DR decision-making *** the DLLSHDM-DR technique,image preprocessing is initially performed to improve the quality of the fundus ***,the DLLSHDM-DR applies HybridNet for producing a collection of feature *** retinal image classification,the DLLSHDM-DR technique exploits the Emperor Penguin Optimizer(EPO)with a Deep Recurrent Neural Network(DRNN).The application of the EPO algorithm assists in the optimal adjustment of the hyperparameters related to the DRNN model for DR detection showing the novelty of our *** assuring the improved performance of the DLLSHDMDR model,a wide range of experiments was tested on the EyePACS *** comparison outcomes assured the better performance of the DLLSHDM-DR approach over other DL models.

Dimethylether production on zeolite catalysts activated by Cl^-,F^- and / or ultrasonication

The chlorinated and fluorinated zeolite catalysts were prepared by the impregnation of zeolites( H-ZSM-5,H-MOR or H-Y) using two halogen precursors( ammonium chloride and ammonium fluoride) in this study. The influence of ultrasonic irradiation was evaluated for optimizing both halogen precursors for production of dimethylether( DME) via methanol dehydration in a fixed bed reactor. The catalysts were characterized by SEM,XRD,BET and NH3-TPD. The reaction conditions were temperatures from 100 to 300 ℃ and a WHSV = 15. 9 h-1. All halogenated catalysts showhigher catalytic activities at all reaction temperatures studied. However, the halogenated zeolite catalysts prepared under ultrasonic irradiation showhigher performance for DME formation. The chlorinated zeolite catalysts show higher activity and selectivity for DME production than the respective fluorinated versions.

Robust Image Watermarking Using LWT and Stochastic Gradient Firefly Algorithm

Watermarking of digital images is required in diversified applicationsranging from medical imaging to commercial images used over the ***, the copyright information is embossed over the image in the form ofa logo at the corner or diagonal text in the background. However, this formof visible watermarking is not suitable for a large class of applications. In allsuch cases, a hidden watermark is embedded inside the original image as proofof ownership. A large number of techniques and algorithms are proposedby researchers for invisible watermarking. In this paper, we focus on issuesthat are critical for security aspects in the most common domains like digitalphotography copyrighting, online image stores, etc. The requirements of thisclass of application include robustness (resistance to attack), blindness (directextraction without original image), high embedding capacity, high Peak Signalto Noise Ratio (PSNR), and high Structural Similarity Matrix (SSIM). Mostof these requirements are conflicting, which means that an attempt to maximizeone requirement harms the other. In this paper, a blind type of imagewatermarking scheme is proposed using Lifting Wavelet Transform (LWT)as the baseline. Using this technique, custom binary watermarks in the formof a binary string can be embedded. Hu’s Invariant moments’ coefficientsare used as a key to extract the watermark. A Stochastic variant of theFirefly algorithm (FA) is used for the optimization of the technique. Undera prespecified size of embedding data, high PSNR and SSIM are obtainedusing the Stochastic Gradient variant of the Firefly technique. The simulationis done using Matrix Laboratory (MATLAB) tool and it is shown that theproposed technique outperforms the benchmark techniques of watermarkingconsidering PSNR and SSIM as quality metrics.

Liver Fat Scores for Noninvasive Diagnosis and Monitoring of Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease in Epidemiological and Clinical Studies

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is strongly associated with the metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes and independently contributes to long-term *** often asymptomatic but reversible,it would require population-wide screening,but direct diagnostics are either too invasive(liver biopsy),costly(MRI)or depending on the examiner’s expertise(ultrasonography).Hepatosteatosis is usually accommodated by features of the metabolic syndrome(***,disturbances in triglyceride and glucose metabolism),and signs of hepatocellular damage,all of which are reflected by biomarkers,which poorly predict NAFLD as single item,but provide a cheap diagnostic alternative when integrated into composite liver fat *** liver index,NAFLD LFS,and hepatic steatosis index are common and accurate indices for NAFLD prediction,but show limited accuracy for liver fat *** indices are rarely *** fibrosis scores are commonly used in clinical practice,but their mandatory reflection of fibrotic reorganization,hepatic injury or systemic sequelae reduces sensitivity for the diagnosis of simple ***-induced liver fat changes are poorly reflected by liver fat indices,depending on the intervention and its specific impact of weight loss on *** limited validity in longitudinal settings stimulates research for new ***,hepatokines,markers of cellular integrity,genetic variants but also simple and inexpensive routine parameters might be potential ***,liver fat indices lack precision for NAFLD prediction or monitoring in individual patients,but in large cohorts they may substitute nonexistent imaging data and serve as a compound biomarker of metabolic syndrome and its cardiometabolic sequelae.

The global burden of diabetic foot ulcers(DFUs)is a significant public health concern,affecting millions of people *** wounds cause considerable suffering and have a high economic ***,there is a need for effective strategies to prevent and treat *** promising therapeutic approach is the use of adiponectin,a hormone primarily produced and secreted by adipose *** has demonstrated anti-inflammatory and antiatherogenic properties,and researchers have suggested its potential therapeutic applications in the treatment of *** have indicated that adiponectin can inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines,increase the production of vascular endothelial growth factor,a key mediator of angiogenesis,and inhibit the activation of the intrinsic apoptotic ***,adiponectin has been found to possess antioxidant properties and impact glucose metabolism,the immune system,extracellular matrix remodeling,and nerve *** objective of this review is to summarize the current state of research on the potential role of adiponectin in the treatment of DFUs and to identify areas where further research is needed in order to fully understand the effects of adiponectin on DFUs and to establish its safety and efficacy as a treatment for DFUs in the clinical *** will provide a deeper understanding of the underlying mechanisms of DFUs that can aid in the development of new and more effective treatment strategies.

Training program for caregivers to prevent pressure ulcers among elderly residents at geriatric homes

Objectives:Pressure ulcer(PU)is one of the most common problem among the bedridden elderly and has significantly more burden on elderly and *** study is aimed to evaluate the effects of the training program for caregivers to prevent PUs among elderly residents at geriatric ***:A quasi-experimental design was used to carry out the current study.A purposive sample comprised of all formal(39 nurses)or informal caregivers(39)and all immobilized elderly residents(35)who are found in all geriatric centers in Helwan district.A structured questionnaire was used to assess caregivers’socio-demographic characteristics,knowledge,attitude,and observational checklists for their practice for prevention of PU at pre-and posttest and during ***:After the training program,there were improvements in the level of knowledge,practice,and positive attitude of caregivers about PU prevention with a statistically significant difference between pre-,post-,and follow-up training programs(P<0.001).Conclusions:The study revealed that the training program seemed to change the knowledge,practice,and attitude of the subjects to PU ***,in turn,implies that adequate knowledge affects directly the elderly caregivers’attitudes as well as practice for prevention could be important in reducing the burden of PU among the ***,conducting a training program for caregivers at different geriatric homes about caring skills for elders can prevent PU,and using spontaneous reposition is very effective to prevent PUs.
