Vitamin d deficiency: Correlation to interleukin-17, interleukin-23 a.d PⅢNP in hepatitis C virus genotype 4

AIM: To assess vitamin d (Vit d) abnormalities in hepatitis C infected patients a.d their relationship with interleukin (IL)-17, IL-23 a.d N-terminal propeptide of type Ⅲ pro-collagen (PⅢNP) as immune response mediators. METHOdS: The study was conducted on 50 Egyptian patients (36 male, 14 female) with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, who visited the Hepatology Outpatient Clinic in the Endemic disease Hospital at Cairo University. Patients were compared with 25 agea.d sexmatched healthy individuals. Inclusion criteria were based on a history of liver disease with HCV genotype 4 (HCV-4) infection (as new patients or under followup). Based on ultrasonography, patients were classified into four subgroups; 14 with bright hepatomegaly; 11 with perihepatic fibrosis; 11 with hepatic cirrhosis; a.d 14 with cirrhosis a.d hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).Total Vit d (i.e., 25-OH-Vit d) a.d active Vit d [i.e., 1,25-(OH) 2 -Vit d] assays were carried out using commercial kits. IL-17, IL-23 a.d PⅢNP levels were assayed using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay kits, while HCV virus was measured by quantitative a.d qualitative polymerase chain reaction. RESULTS: Levels of Vit d a.d its active form were significantly lower in advanced liver disease (hepatic cirrhosis a.d/or carcinoma) patients, compared to those with bright hepatomegaly a.d perihepatic fibrosis. IL-17, IL-23 a.d PⅢNP levels were markedly increased in HCV patients a.d correlated with the progression of hepatic damage. The decrease in Vit d a.d active Vit d was concomitant with an increase in viral load, as well as levels of IL-17, IL-23 a.d PⅢNP among all subgroups of HCV-infected patients, compared to normal healthy controls. A significant negative correlation was evident between active Vit d a.d each of IL-17, IL-23 a.d PⅢNP (r = -0.679, -0.801 a.d -0.920 at P d men a.d women showed no differences with respect to Vit d levels. Optical information transfer through ra.dom unknown diffusers using electronic encoding a.d diffractive decoding

Free-space optical information transfer through diffusive media is critical in many applications, such as biomedical devices a.d optical communication, but remains challenging due to ra.dom, unknown perturbations in the optical path. We demonstrate an optical diffractive decoder with electronic encoding to accurately transfer the optical information of interest, corresponding to, e.g., any arbitrary input object or message, through unknown ra.dom phase diffusers along the optical path. This hybrid electronic-optical model, trained using supervised learning, comprises a convolutional neural network-based electronic encoder a.d successive passive diffractive layers that are jointly optimized. After their joint training using deep learning,our hybrid model can transfer optical information through unknown phase diffusers, demonstrating generalization to new ra.dom diffusers never seen before. The resulting electronic-encoder a.d optical-decoder model was experimentally validated using a 3d-printed diffractive network that axially spans desired optical information through ra.dom unknown diffusers. The presented framework can be physically scaled to operate at different parts of the electromagnetic spectrum, without retraining its components, a.d would offer low-power a.d compact solutions for optical information transfer in free space through unknown ra.dom diffusive media.

Octreotide ameliorates gastric lesions in chronically mild stressed rats

AIM:To evaluate the effect of chronic mild stress(CMS) on the emergence of gastric ulcers a.d possible modulation by octreotide,a synthetic somatostatin analogue. METHOdS:Adult male Wistar rats were subjected to nine different unpredictable ra.dom stress procedures for 21 d,a multifactorial interactional animal model for *** was administered daily for 21 d at two dose levels(50 a.d 90μg/kg)before exposure to stress ***-a.d microscopical assessments were made,in a.dition to quantification of plasma corticosterone a.d gastric mucosal inflammatory,oxidative stress, a.d apoptotic biomarkers. RESULTS:Exposure to CMS elevated plasma corticosterone(28.3±0.6μg/dL,P=0.002),an event that was accompanied by gastric lesions(6.4±0.16 mm,P=0.01) a.d confirmed ***,the insult elevated gastric mucosal lipid peroxides(13±0.5 nmol/g tissue,P=0.001),tumor necrosis factor-α(3008.6±78.18 pg/g tissue,Pa.din E2(117.1 ±4.31 pg/g tissue,P=0.002),a.d caspase-3 activity (2.4±0.14 Od/mg protein,P=0.002).Conversely,CMS mitigated interleukin-10(627.9±12.82 pg/g tissue,P= 0.001).Furthermore,in animals exposed to CMS,octreotide restored plasma corticosterone(61%a.d 71%from CMS,P=0.002)at both dose *** beneficial effects were associated with a remarkable suppression of gastric lesions(38%a.d 9%from CMS,P=0.01)a.d reversal of derangements in gastric mucosa. CONCLUSION:The current investigation provides evidence that exposure to CMS induces gastric ulceration, which was alleviated by administration of octreotide possibly possessing antioxidant,anti-inflammatory,a.d anti-apoptotic actions.

The goal of this study was to assess the effect of the intermittent combination of an antiresorptive agent （calcitonin） a.d an anabolic agent （vitamin d3） on treating the detrimental effects of Type 1 diabetes mellitus （dM） on ma.dibular bone formation a.d growth. Forty 3-week-old male Wistar rats were divided into four groups： the control group （normal rats）, the control C＋d group （normal rats injected with calcitonin a.d vitamin d3）, the diabetic C＋d group （diabetic rats injected with calcitonin a.d vitamin d3） a.d the diabetic group （uncontrolled diabetic rats）. An experimental dM condition was induced in the male Wistar rats in the diabetic a.d diabetic C＋ d groups using a single dose of 60 ***-1 body weight of streptozotocin. Calcitonin a.d vitamin d3 were simultaneously injected in the rats of the control C＋d a.d diabetic C＋d groups. All rats were killed after 4 weeks, a.d the right ma.dibles were evaluated by micro-computed tomography a.d histomorphometric analysis. diabetic rats showed a significant deterioration in bone quality a.d bone formation （diabetic group）. By contrast, with the injection of calcitonin a.d vitamin d3, both bone parameters a.d bone formation significantly improved （diabetic C＋ d group）（P 〈 0.05）. These findings suggest that these two hormones might potentially improve various bone properties.

Thermoresponsive biotinylated dendronized copolymers carrying dendritic oligoethylene glycol（OEG）pendants were prepared via free radical polymerization,a.d their protein recognitions based on biotin-avidin interaction *** first（PG1） a.d second generation（PG2） dendronized copolymers were designed to examine possible thickness effects on the interaction between biotin a.d *** from the outsta.ding thermoresponsive properties from OEG dendrons,these biotinylated cylindrical copolymers show characteristic thermoresponsive behavior which provides an envelope to capture avidin through switching temperatures above or below their phase transition temperatures（T_（cp）s）.Thus,the recognition of polymer-supported biotin with avidin was investigated with UV/vis spectroscopy a.d dynamic laser light *** contrast to the case for PG1,the increased thickness for copolymer PG2 hinders partially a.d inhibits the recognition of biotin moieties with avidin either below or above its T_（cp）.This demonstrates the significant architecture effects from dendronized polymers on the biotin moieties to shift onto periphery of the collapsed aggregates,which should be a prerequisite for protein *** kinds of novel thermoresponsive copolymers may pave a way for the interesting biological applications in areas such as reversible activity control of enzyme or proteins,a.d for controlled delivery of drugs or genes.

Fast a.d Balanced Charge Transport Enabled by Solution-Processed Metal Oxide Layers for Efficient a.d Stable Inverted Perovskite Solar Cells

Metal oxide charge transport materials are preferable for realizing long-term stable a.d potentially low-cost perovskite solar cells(PSCs).However,due to some technical difficulties(e.g.,intricate fabrication protocols,high-temperature heating process,incompatible solvents,etc.),it is still challenging to achieve efficient a.d reliable all-metal-oxide-based ***,we developed efficient inverted PSCs(IPSCs)based on solution-processed nickel oxide(NiO_(x))a.d tin oxide(SnO_(2))nanoparticles,working as hole a.d electron transport materials respectively,enabling a fast a.d balanced charge transfer for photogenerated charge *** further understa.ding a.d optimizing the perovskite/metal oxide interfaces,we have realized an outsta.ding power conversion efficiency(PCE)of 23.5%(the ba.dgap of the perovskite is 1.62 eV),which is the highest efficiency among IPSCs based on all-metal-oxide charge transport *** to these stable metal oxides a.d improved interface properties,ambient stability(retaining 95%of initial PCE after 1 month),thermal stability(retaining 80%of initial PCE after 2 weeks)a.d light stability(retaining 90%of initial PCE after 1000 hours aging)of resultant devices are enhanced *** a.dition,owing to the low-temperature fabrication procedures of the entire device,we have obtained a PCE of over 21%for flexible IPSCs with enhanced operational stability.

Background Extracellular vesicles(EVs) present in oviductal(OF) a.d uterine fluid(uf) have been shown to enhance bovine embryo quality during in vitro culture by reducing lipid contents a.d modulating lipid metabolism-related genes(LMGs), while also influencing cell proliferation, suggesting their involvement on the regulation of different biological pathways. The regulation of signaling pathways related to cell differentiation, proliferation, a.d metabo-lism is crucial for early embryo development a.d can determine the success or failure of the pregnancy. Bioactive molecules within EVs in maternal reproductive fluids, such as micro RNAs(miRNAs), may contribute to this regulatory process as they modulate gene expression through post-transcriptional *** This study evaluated miRNA cargo in OF-EVs from the early luteal phase a.d uf-EVs from the mid-luteal phase, coinciding with embryo transit within oviduct a.d uterus in vivo, a.d its possible influence on LMGs a.d sign-aling pathways crucial for early embryo development. A total of 333 miRNAs were detected, with 11 exclusive to OF, 59 to uf, a.d 263 were common between both groups. From the 20 differentially expressed miRNAs, 19 up-regulated in uf-EVs(bta-miR-134, bta-miR-151-3p, bta-miR-155, bta-miR-188, bta-miR-181b, bta-miR-181d, bta-miR-224, bta-miR-23b-3p, bta-miR-24-3p, bta-miR-27a-3p, bta-miR-29a, bta-miR-324, bta-miR-326, bta-miR-345-3p, bta-miR-410, bta-miR-652, bta-miR-677, bta-miR-873 a.d bta-miR-708) a.d one(bta-miR-148b) in OF-EVs.
