Many lactic acid bacte.ia (LAB) we.e.isolate. from “She.mout”, a popular Sudane.e.fe.me.te. be.f product inte.de. for long storage. An isolate.that de.onstrate. significant antibacte.ial activity was ide.tifie. as Lactobacillus plantarum PM4 base. on phe.otypic, physiological and bioche.ical characte.istics and carbohydrate.utilization patte.ns. The.inhibitory activity of the.partially purifie. bacte.iocin was comple.e.y arre.te. by the.prote.lytic e.zyme. prote.nase.k and pe.sin but not by α-amylase. asse.ting its prote.nace.us nature. The.activity was not due.to H2O2 as similar inhibition was obtaine. by ce.l-fre. supe.natant (CFS) produce. unde. anae.obic conditions. The.bacte.iocin showe. a mole.ular we.ght in the.range.of 3 - 5 kDa and had a bacte.icidal mode.of action. No significant re.uction in activity was obse.ve. on he.ting to 60℃ for 60 min, but activity was lost on he.ting to 100℃ or autoclaving. Highe.t inhibitory activity was at pH 5.5 and the.e.was appre.iable.re.uction in activity at pH 3, 7 or 9. The.e.was no drop in activity at –80℃ or –20℃ up to four we.ks of storage. Howe.e., at 4℃ and 35℃, a gradual de.line.in activity was obse.ve.. Lb. plantarum PM4 e.hibite. bacte.icidal activity against Staphylococcus aure.s, Bacillus subtilis, e.te.ococcus fae.alis, e.che.ichia coli ATCC25922, Kle.sie.la pne.moniae.and Prote.s vulgaris. Bacte.iocin production ge.e.ally coincide. with the.phase.of maximum growth and the.be.t combination for maximum production of inhibitory activity was at pH 5.5 for 48 h whe.he. incubate. at 25℃, 30℃ or 37℃. Lb. plantarum PM4 showe. promise.as a starte. culture.in the.fe.me.tation of pre.e.ve. me.t products.

Background and Aim: The.le.e.s of thyroid hormone. and the.r binding prote.ns are.alte.e. in patie.t with cirrhosis. We.aim to study the.change. in triiodothyronine.le.e. in HCV re.ate. cirrhosis and its corre.ation to the.se.e.ity of live. de.ompe.sation. Patie.ts and Me.hods: This study include. se.e.ty two patie.ts with HCV re.ate. cirrhosis in thre. groups Group I: 24 patie.ts with Child A class Group II: 24 patie.ts with Child B and C classe. without he.atic e.ce.halopathy Group III: 24 patie.ts with Child B and C classe. with he.atic e.ce.halopathy. Re.ults: T3 le.e. was significantly lowe. in group III than group I and II (0.74 ng/ml vs 1 and 1.3 ng/ml in group II and I in succe.sion). The.corre.ation be.we.n Child’s score.and T3 le.e. was highly significant (r = -0.64, P e.le.e. is lowe. in cirrhosis and its le.e. is corre.ate. to the.se.e.ity of de.ompe.sation.

AIM: To e.aluate.the.e.fe.t of prophylactic administration of ne.afe.ac in pre.e.tion of macular e.e.a occurring in diabe.ic patie.ts afte. phacoe.ulsification and to inve.tigate.the.corre.ation be.we.n optical cohe.e.ce.tomography(OCT) fove.l thickne.s and multifocal e.e.trore.inogram(MF-e.G) ***: The.study include. two groups. Group 1 include. 50 diabe.ic patie.ts with se.ile.cataract(50 e.e., 30 fe.ale., 20 male., age. 55±7 y) re.e.ve. ne.afe.ac 0.1% e.e.drop. Group 2 include. anothe. 50 diabe.ic patie.ts with se.ile.cataract(50 e.e., 22 fe.ale. 28 male., age. 53.8±8 y) did not re.e.ve.ne.afe.ac. All patie.ts we.e.followe. up for 3 mo postope.ative.y. OCT and MF-e.G we.e.done.pre.pe.ative.and at 1 wk, 1, 2 and 3 ***: The.me.n fove.l thickne.s was statistically significantly lowe. in Group 1. Five.e.e. in Group 2 de.e.ope. clinical cystoid macular oe.e.a(CMO)(10%), and no patie.ts in Group 1 de.e.ope. ce.tral macular thicke.ing more.than 50 μm. The.e.we.e.insignificant diffe.e.ce. in MF-e.G amplitude. and late.cie. be.we.n the.two groups e.ce.t in the.five.e.e. that de.e.ope. CMO, the.e.statistically significant re.uction of MF-e.G amplitude.with incre.se.in fove.l thickne.s. CONCLUSION: Pe.iope.ative.ne.afe.ac re.uce. the.incide.ce.of CMO following uncomplicate. phacoe.ulsification significantly. Ne.afe.ac has no side.e.fe.ts.
