OBJECTIVE:To investigate the efficacy of Fig fruit powder and olive on hepatic,renal and splenic injury induced by 2-nitropropane(2-NP)in mice,especially if they were used in ***:A total of 40 adult BalB/c male mice weighting 25-30 g/*** were categorized into five groups(8 each).Group 1 as negative *** 2 as positive control group intraperitoneally injected with 2-NP(100 mg/kg b.w.)3 times/weekly for eight *** 3 injected with 2-NP and were orally supplemented with Fig(300 mg/kg).Group 4 injected with 2-NP and were orally supplemented with olive(100 mg/kg).Group 5 injected with 2-NP and were orally supplemented with mixture of Fig and olive(3∶1 respectively).RESULTS:Histopathological observation of liver in mice treated with 2-NP showed cellular degeneration,pyknosis,and congestion of the portal *** kidney there were disorganization of the cortical tissues,cellular necrosis and plenty of inflammatory lymphocytic *** elevations in liver function parameters(alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase),m RNA expression levels of tumor necrosis factor-α,nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate oxidase and cyclooxygenase were detected as anti-inflammatory markers and 5-lipoxygenase,interleukin-1βand interleukin-6 as inflammatory biomarkers for liver and spleen,also significant elevations was detected in lipid peroxidation *** levels of antioxidants,glutathione,glutathione peroxidase,catalase and superoxide dismutase were significantly ***:our findings indicated that Fig fruit powder and olive protected against hepatic,renal and splenic injury induced with 2-NP in mice,especially if they were used in combination.

Gill Histopathological Effects of PAHs on Adult Pearl Oyster, <i>Pinctada radiata</i>at al-Khiran Coast in Kuwait

The hazardous effect of water pollution on the histopathology of gill organ of the pearl oyster, Pinctada radiata was studied with respect to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon contamination in al-Khiran coast at Kuwait. Thirty oyster samples from each site, site one where dead oysters were located, site two which is two kilometers away from site one and the control site which is ten kilometers away from site one were collected from al-Khiran area where a massive number of dead oysters were reported. The gills of oysters were immediately removed and transferred to Bouin’s solution for fixation and then processed for sectioning, staining and mounting and gill tissues were ready for examination. Histopathological changes in gills of oysters exposed to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in site one and site two included necrosis and edemas of branchial lamellae, complete degeneration of gill filaments, loss of regular shape and haemolysis, and inflammation. Gill tissues of oysters from the control site had normal appearance. The study showed a clear evidence that PAHs caused severe histopathological changes in gills of pearl oyster Pinctada radiata.

Stress-Induced Changes in Testosterone Secretion in Male Rats: Role of Oxidative Stress and Modulation by Antioxidants

Seventy adult male albino rats were randomly allotted into 3 main groups: control group (n = 10), acute stress-exposed group (n = 30) and chronic stress-exposed group (n = 30). Each of the stressed groups was subdivided into 3 equal subgroups (n = 10/subgroup, SG): subgroup 1 animals were exposed to immobilization stress, SG2 animals, were given immobilization stress and supplemented with α-tocopherol (vitamin E), SG3 animals were exposed to immobilization stress and supplemented with ascorbic acid (vitamin C). Immobilization stress exposure was applied once for 6 continuous hours in the acute stressed group and was 6 hours daily for 10 consecutive days in the chronic stressed group. In all vitamin supplemented groups, both vitamin E and C were administered orally mixed with the diet in a similar dose of 500 mg/kg diet. This supplementation started 6 weeks prior to the stress exposure and continued throughout the experimental period. At the end of the last immobilization session, sera were harvested from all animals thereafter, animals were sacrificed and the testes were immediately excised and processed for further biochemical investigations. Serum testosterone and luteinizing hormone levels were measured and the activities of antioxidant enzymes [catalase (CAT) & glutathione-s-transferase (GST)] as well as malondialdehyde (MDA) concentrations were determined in sera and testes. Compared to control, the results revealed that acute and chronic immobilization stress caused significant decrease in levels of serum testosterone and luteinizing hormone (LH). also, significant reductions (P ale rats significantly inhibited testosterone secretion

Nonpharmacological pain management practices among nurses working in multiple centers in Saudi Arabia: A cross-sectional study

Sizing of Converters Interfacing the Rotor of Wind Driven DFIG to the Power Grid

In this paper, the operation of the Double Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) in the range from synchronous speed down to sub-synchronous speeds is analyzed using the power-flow approach. The objective of this analysis is to determine a ceiling for the rating of the converter interfacing the rotor of the wind driven double fed induction generator (DFIG) to the grid. Sizing the converter is an important issue in determining the economic viability of using the DFIM as a generator at synchronous and sub-synchronous speeds in wind energy conversion systems. The size of the converter is proved to be less than 10% of the rated power of the DFIG, which is 40% to 67% lower than that estimated in previous publications.

Recently,securing Copyright has become a hot research topic due to rapidly advancing information *** a host cover,watermarking methods are used to conceal or embed sensitive information messages in such a manner that it was undetectable to a human observer in contemporary *** media covers may often take any form,including audio,video,photos,even DNA data *** this work,we present a new methodology for watermarking to hide secret data into 3-D *** technique of blind extraction based on reversing the steps of the data embedding process is *** implemented technique uses the features of the 3-D object vertex’discrete cosine transform to embed a grayscale image with high *** coefficient of vertex and the encrypted picture pixels are used in the watermarking ***,the extraction approach is fully blind and is dependent on the backward steps of the encoding procedure to get the hidden *** distance,Euclidean distance,Manhattan distance,and the Cosine distance are used to evaluate and test the performance of the proposed *** visibility and imperceptibility of the proposed method are assessed to show the efficiency of our work compared to previous corresponding methods.
