Earthquake induced landslides are one of the most severe geo-environmental hazards that cause enormous damage to infrastructure, property, and loss of life in Nuweiba area. This study developed a model for mapping the earthquake-induced landslide susceptibility in Nuweiba area in Egypt with considerations of geological, geomorphological, topographical, and seismological factors. An integrated approach of remote sensing and GIS technologies were applied for that target. Several data sources including Terra SAR-X and SPOT 5 satellite imagery, topographic maps, field data, and other geospatial resources were used to model landslide susceptibility. These data were used specifically to produce important thematic layers contributing to landslide occurrences in the region. A rating scheme was developed to assign ranks for the thematic layers and weights for their classes based on their contribution in landslide susceptibility. The ranks and weights were defined based on the knowledge from field survey and authors experiences related to the study area. The landslide susceptibility map delineates the hazard zones to three relative classes of susceptibility: high, moderate, and low. Therefore, the current approach provides a way to assess landslide hazards and serves for geo-hazard planning and prediction in Nuweiba area.

Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension without Papilloedema “Case Report”

Purpose: The purpose of this case report is to share and spread the awareness of diagnosing and managing idiopathic intracranial hypertension in atypical scenarios as in this case, who presented with multiple other medical conditions, and had no papilloedema. The presenting signs and symptoms of mere headache were misleading. The other medical conditions could have explained the patient’s headache. These included cervical spine osteoporosis, and middle ear otolith disease. This case is unique because she was found to have IIH without papilloedema, and despite having multiple cancers in the uterus, breasts, and recently the thyroid, she had no malignant cells in the CSF. The patient was treated for IIH, and her malignancies were treated separately by the corresponding physicians. Method: The patient was assessed in 2019, and was followed up closely till 2021, in collaboration with her neurologist, oncologist, and orthopedist. Result: The patient had IIH after her neurologist attempted a lumbar puncture, which showed high CSF pressure. Conclusion: Headache is a common symptom presented by patients of different ages and backgrounds. The absence of papilloedema does not exclude the diagnosis of IIH. When possible etiologies for headache are ruled out (e.g. middle and inner ear infections, anemia, intracranial tumors, glaucoma, etc.), chronic headaches that do not respond to medications, and present with visual field changes may require a lumbar puncture.

In this paper, the problem of communication security in an underlay wiretap cognitive radio network is addressed and statistically investigated. We rely on a simple dual-hop communication model of decode and forward relay assisted network. Regarding the interference from primary users, interference power and maximum transmit power constraints; this network is subjected to multiple eavesdropping attacks which employ a specific interception strategy. To confound this eavesdropping, proposed selection schemes are exploited that aim at maximizing the minimum of the dual secrecy rates in order to strengthen the physical layer security. Moreover, exact and asymptotic closed form expressions are derived for specific performance metrics over independent and identically distributed Rayleigh fading channels. At high signal to interference noise ratio(SINR), tangential system bounds are also derived and discussed. Monte Carlo simulation results emphasize our assumption. It is found out that at the full diversity of the system, any additional node that enters the cooperative eavesdropping system becomes significantly of no effect.

Vitamin D deficiency: Correlation to interleukin-17, interleukin-23 and PⅢNP in hepatitis C virus genotype 4

AIM: To assess vitamin D (Vit D) abnormalities in hepatitis C infected patients and their relationship with interleukin (IL)-17, IL-23 and N-terminal propeptide of type Ⅲ pro-collagen (PⅢNP) as immune response mediators. METHODS: The study was conducted on 50 Egyptian patients (36 male, 14 female) with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, who visited the Hepatology Outpatient Clinic in the Endemic Disease Hospital at Cairo University. Patients were compared with 25 ageand sexmatched healthy individuals. Inclusion criteria were based on a history of liver disease with HCV genotype 4 (HCV-4) infection (as new patients or under followup). Based on ultrasonography, patients were classified into four subgroups; 14 with bright hepatomegaly; 11 with perihepatic fibrosis; 11 with hepatic cirrhosis; and 14 with cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).Total Vit D (i.e., 25-OH-Vit D) and active Vit D [i.e., 1,25-(OH) 2 -Vit D] assays were carried out using commercial kits. IL-17, IL-23 and PⅢNP levels were assayed using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay kits, while HCV virus was measured by quantitative and qualitative polymerase chain reaction. RESULTS: Levels of Vit D and its active form were significantly lower in advanced liver disease (hepatic cirrhosis and/or carcinoma) patients, compared to those with bright hepatomegaly and perihepatic fibrosis. IL-17, IL-23 and PⅢNP levels were markedly increased in HCV patients and correlated with the progression of hepatic damage. The decrease in Vit D and active Vit D was concomitant with an increase in viral load, as well as levels of IL-17, IL-23 and PⅢNP among all subgroups of HCV-infected patients, compared to normal healthy controls. A significant negative correlation was evident between active Vit D and each of IL-17, IL-23 and PⅢNP (r = -0.679, -0.801 and -0.920 at P < 0.001, respectively). Introduction: The endodontic management of necrotic permanent immature teeth is a challenge for the practitioner. These teeth are treated by apexification. However, because of the complications associated with this treatment, researchers have developed other therapies. Currently, a new technique called pulp revascularization has emerged. This technique allows the continuation of root completion thanks to a healthy tissue newly formed at the intra root canal level. Material and method: A literature search of articles dealing with pulp revascularization of immature permanent teeth was conducted using two types of search strategy, a literature search using keywords on databases and then a manual “bottom-up” search of references of previously identified articles. Results: 112 articles were identified based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Discussion: This work showed that pulp revascularization is a new therapy that aims to restart root development on an immature permanent tooth. It is based on the principle of tissue engineering and uses the differentiation potential of stem cells. Conclusion: Currently, the literature values revascularization as it allows root development, sidewall thickening, apical closure and a decrease in periapical lesion and ensures a good sealing. Clinical and radiographic success rates appear to be encouraging, except that factors influencing treatment must be taken into consideration.
