Role of cannabinoids and the endocannabinoid system in modulation of diabetic cardiomyopathy

Diabetic complications,chiefly seen in long-term situations,are persistently deleterious to a large extent,requiring multi-factorial risk reduction strategies beyond glycemic *** cardiomyopathy is one of the most common deleterious diabetic complications,being the leading cause of mortality among diabetic *** mechanisms of diabetic cardiomyopathy are multi-factorial,involving increased oxidative stress,accumulation of advanced glycation end products(AGEs),activation of various pro-inflammatory and cell death signaling pathways,and changes in the composition of extracellular matrix with enhanced cardiac *** novel lipid signaling system,the endocannabinoid system,has been implicated in the pathogenesis of diabetes and its complications through its two main receptors:Cannabinoid receptor type 1 and cannabinoid receptor type 2,alongside other ***,the role of the endocannabinoid system in diabetic cardiomyopathy has not been fully *** review aims to elucidate the possible mechanisms through which cannabinoids and the endocannabinoid system could interact with the pathogenesis and the development of diabetic *** mechanisms include oxidative/nitrative stress,inflammation,accumulation of AGEs,cardiac remodeling,and autophagy.A better understanding of the role of cannabinoids and the endocannabinoid system in diabetic cardiomyopathy may provide novel strategies to manipulate such a serious diabetic complication.

A New Evaluation Criterion for Optimizing the Mechanical Properties of Toughened Polypropylene/Silica Nanocomposites

This study aims to experiment with the mechanical properties of polypropylene(PP)/thermoplastic elastomer/nano-silica/compatibilizer nanocomposite using the melt mixing *** addition of polyolefin elastomers has proved to be an approachable solution for low impact strength of PP,while it would also reduce the Young's modulus and tensile *** is why reinforcement would be applied to this combination to enhance the elastic *** mechanical properties of the prepared composites were devised to train an artificial neural network to predict these properties of the system in 6256 unknown ***,the sensitivity analysis was performed and the share of each input parameter on the respective output values was ***,a novel parameter called nanocomposite evaluation criterion(NEC)is introduced to analyze the suitability of the nanocomposites considering the mechanical ***,the formulation with optimal mechanical properties of toughness,elongation at break,tensile strength,Young's modulus,and impact strength was obtained.

The purpose of the present paper is to study the entropy h_s(Φ) of a quantum dynamical systems Φ=(L,s,φ),where s is a bayessian state on an orthomodular lattice *** introduced the notion of entropy hs(φ,)of partition of a Boolean algebra B with respect to a state s and a state preserving homomorphism φ,we prove afew results on that,define the entropy of a dynamical system h_s(Φ),and show its *** concept of sufficientfamilies is also given and we establish that hs(Φ) comes out to be equal to the supremum of h_s(φ,),where variesover any sufficient *** present theory has then been extended to the quantum dynamical system ( L,s,φ),whichas an effect of the theory of commutators and Bell inequalities can equivalently be replaced by the dynamical system(B,s_o,φ),where B is a Boolean algebra and so is a state on B.

Assessing decontamination practices at a medical microbiology research laboratory

To our knowledge,this is the first study to conduct an objective assessment of the routine decontamination practices at a medical microbiology research laboratory(MRL)a year after a biosafety training was provided to all laboratory *** March 28th and June 28th,2021,unobtrusive observations were carried out to identify-three high-touch surfaces at the MRL during different working *** was used to evaluate the effectiveness of the disinfectant used in the *** three high-touch surfaces were sampled before and after decontamination with 200 ppm of 5%sodium hypochlorite(household bleach)to quantify the microbial load and identify the types of organisms residing on the laboratory surfaces.A higher concentration(500 ppm)of 5%sodium hypochlorite was employed after refresher training was provided to housekeeping staff,and resampling of the three surfaces was carried out during a 4-week follow-up period using the same *** three high-touch surfaces identified were the two sides of the workbench(22%–24%)and the front surface of one incubator(14%).Anthracoid bacilli and Staphylococcus aureus were the most commonly found organisms on laboratory surfaces preintervention(100%and 89%,respectively)and post-intervention(56%and 44%,respectively).Other microorganisms detected included Salmonella spp.(27.7%),Proteus spp.(5.6%),Escherichia coli(5.6%),and Klebsiella spp.(33.3%).Employing a higher concentration(500 ppm)of sodium hypochlorite significantly(p<0.000)reduced the total aerobic colony count from an average of 15–250 cfu/cm2 to 10–60 cfu/cm^(2).This study demonstrated suboptimal decontamination practices at the MRL and the need to apply a higher concentration(500 ppm)of sodium hypochlorite to reduce the overall microbial *** also demonstrated the importance of quantitative assessment to monitor decontamination practices and ensure staff *** studies are needed to identify bacterial communities within the laboratory,which will

Gas–liquid flow mass transfer in a T-shape microreactor stimulated with 1.7 MHz ultrasound waves

This paper describes the application of ultrasound waves on hydrodynamics and mass transfer characteristics in the gas–liquid flow in a T-shape microreactor with a diameter of 800 μm. A 1.7 MHz piezoelectric transducer(PZT) was employed to induce the vibration in this microreactor. Liquid side volumetric mass transfer coefficients were measured by physical and chemical methods of CO_2 absorption into water and Na OH solution. The approach of absorption of CO_2 into a 1 mol·L^(-1) Na OH solution was used for analysis of interfacial areas. With the help of a photography system, the fluid flow patterns inside the microreactor were analyzed. The effects of superficial liquid velocity, initial concentration of Na OH, superficial CO_2 gas velocity and length of microreactor on the mass transfer rate were investigated. The comparison between sonicated and plain microreactors(microreactor with and without ultrasound) shows that the ultrasound wave irradiation has a significant effect on kLa and interfacial area at various operational conditions. For the microreactor length of 12 cm, ultrasound waves improved kLa and interfacial area about 21% and 22%, respectively. From this study, it can be concluded that ultrasound wave irradiation in microreactor has a great effect on the mass transfer rate. This study suggests a new enhancement technique to establish high interfacial area and kLa in microreactors.

The protection of the liver as an essential organ in the body against oxidative stress and deleterious compounds has been the subject of recent *** different compounds,medicinal plants play an important role due to their hepatoprotective *** officinale or"common dandelion"is a popular plant that has been traditionally used for its hepatoprotective ***,there are limited clinical studies on its hepatoprotective *** aim of this review article is to evaluate the hepatoprotective effects of dandelion and its mechanism of *** reviewed literature up to July 2019 on"Taraxacum officinale"or"dandelion"and *** available pharmacological studies indicate that dandelion extracts have hepatoprotective effects against chemical agents due to its antioxidant and antiinflammatory *** anti-inflammatory effects of dandelion,the prebiotic effects of its oligofructans,inhibitory effects against the release of lipopolysaccharides and fasting induced adipose factor,digestive enzymes,and enhancing effects of lipogenesis,reduce lipid accumulation and liver inflammation,which directly or indirectly improve the liver *** emerging evidence on hepatoprotective effects of dandelion,designing large human clinical studies is essential.

Snapshot multispectral imaging using a diffractive optical network

Multispectral imaging has been used for numerous applications in e.g.,environmental monitoring,aerospace,defense,and ***,we present a diffractive optical network-based multispectral imaging system trained using deep learning to create a virtual spectral filter array at the output image *** diffractive multispectral imager performs spatially-coherent imaging over a large spectrum,and at the same time,routes a pre-determined set of spectral channels onto an array of pixels at the output plane,converting a monochrome focal-plane array or image sensor into a multispectral imaging device without any spectral filters or image recovery ***,the spectral responsivity of this diffractive multispectral imager is not sensitive to input polarization *** numerical simulations,we present different diffractive network designs that achieve snapshot multispectral imaging with 4,9 and 16 unique spectral bands within the visible spectrum,based on passive spatially-structured diffractive surfaces,with a compact design that axially spans ~72λ_(m),where λ_(m) is the mean wavelength of the spectral band of ***,we experimentally demonstrate a diffractive multispectral imager based on a 3D-printed diffractive network that creates at its output image plane a spatially repeating virtual spectral filter array with 2×2=4 unique bands at terahertz *** to their compact form factor and computation-free,power-efficient and polarization-insensitive forward operation,diffractive multispectral imagers can be transformative for various imaging and sensing applications and be used at different parts of the electromagnetic spectrum where high-density and wide-area multispectral pixel arrays are not widely available.
