Binary and ternary complexes of Cd（II） involving pyrazine 2,3-dicarboxylic acid （pzdca） and various biologically relevant ligands containing different functional groups are investigated at 25 ℃, I = 0.10 M （NaNO3） and in 20% （v/v） ethanol-water media. The ligands （L） used are amino acids, dicarboxylic acids and peptides. The results showed the formation of Cd （pzdca）（L） complexes with amino acids and dicarboxylic acids. Peptides form both Cd （pzdca）（L） complexes and the corresponding deprotonated amide species Cd （pzdca）（LH-1）. The relative stabilities of ternary complexes are compared with those of the corresponding binary complexes in terms of AlogK values. The concentration distribution of the complexes in solution was evaluated.

To evaluate the antitumor activity of Lactuca serriola against EAC （Ehrlich ascites carcinoma） in Swiss albino mice. The in vivo antitumor activity of the methanol extract of plant Lactuca serriola was evaluated at （100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg of hole plant and 200 mg/kg, 400 mg/kg of fruit bw） against EAC using mean survival time. After administration of the extracts of Lactuca serriola, viable EAC cell count and body weight in the EAC tumor hosts were observed. The animal was also observed for improvement in the hematological parameters （e.g., hemoglobin content, red and white blood cells count and differential cell count） after treatment of plant extract. Intraperitoneal administration of plant extracts reduced viable EAC cells, increased the survival time and restored altered hematological parameters. Significant efficacy was observed for fruit extract at high concentration 400 mg/kg dose （P 〈 0.05）. It can be concluded that the methyl extract ofLactuca serriola possesses significant antitumor activity.

Stress-Induced Changes in Testosterone Secretion in Male Rats: Role of Oxidative Stress and Modulation by Antioxidants

Seventy adult male albino rats were randomly allotted into 3 main groups: control group (n = 10), acute stress-exposed group (n = 30) and chronic stress-exposed group (n = 30). Each of the stressed groups was subdivided into 3 equal subgroups (n = 10/subgroup, SG): subgroup 1 animals were exposed to immobilization stress, SG2 animals, were given immobilization stress and supplemented with α-tocopherol (vitamin E), SG3 animals were exposed to immobilization stress and supplemented with ascorbic acid (vitamin C). Immobilization stress exposure was applied once for 6 continuous hours in the acute stressed group and was 6 hours daily for 10 consecutive days in the chronic stressed group. In all vitamin supplemented groups, both vitamin E and C were administered orally mixed with the diet in a similar dose of 500 mg/kg diet. This supplementation started 6 weeks prior to the stress exposure and continued throughout the experimental period. At the end of the last immobilization session, sera were harvested from all animals thereafter, animals were sacrificed and the testes were immediately excised and processed for further biochemical investigations. Serum testosterone and luteinizing hormone levels were measured and the activities of antioxidant enzymes [catalase (CAT) & glutathione-s-transferase (GST)] as well as malondialdehyde (MDA) concentrations were determined in sera and testes. Compared to control, the results revealed that acute and chronic immobilization stress caused significant decrease in levels of serum testosterone and luteinizing hormone (LH). Also, significant reductions (P < 0.01) were found in the activities of CAT and GST in sera and testes. Contrariwise, there existed a significant (P < 0.05) increase in MDA concentrations in serum and testis. Co-administration of vitamin E or C relatively restored (P < 0.01) the above parameters. Thus, this study draws a conclusion that immobilization stress of male rats significantly inhibited testosterone secretion

As the Eurozone celebrated its decade of existence in 2011, few could have predicted that the ever-deepening financial crisis would emerge. The fear with the Eurozone crisis is that with major bail outs projected and government austerity expects to affect the economy in negative terms, the economies in the Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece, and Spain （PIIGS） states will decline and consumption will decrease. Being the largest trading partner of European Union （EU）, China＇s export is therefore anticipated to decline. In lesser ways, the Australian economy was also expected to feel some economic pain. The aim of this paper is to ascertain what level of economic impact the Eurozone crisis would have on both China and Australia, given that few nations in the world can aspire to remain unaffected.

Multispectral imaging has been used for numerous applications in e.g.,environmental monitoring,aerospace,defense,and ***,we present a diffractive optical network-based multispectral imaging system trained using deep learning to create a virtual spectral filter array at the output image *** diffractive multispectral imager performs spatially-coherent imaging over a large spectrum,and at the same time,routes a pre-determined set of spectral channels onto an array of pixels at the output plane,converting a monochrome focal-plane array or image sensor into a multispectral imaging device without any spectral filters or image recovery ***,the spectral responsivity of this diffractive multispectral imager is not sensitive to input polarization *** numerical simulations,we present different diffractive network designs that achieve snapshot multispectral imaging with 4,9 and 16 unique spectral bands within the visible spectrum,based on passive spatially-structured diffractive surfaces,with a compact design that axially spans ~72λ_(m),where λ_(m) is the mean wavelength of the spectral band of ***,we experimentally demonstrate a diffractive multispectral imager based on a 3D-printed diffractive network that creates at its output image plane a spatially repeating virtual spectral filter array with 2×2=4 unique bands at terahertz *** to their compact form factor and computation-free,power-efficient and polarization-insensitive forward operation,diffractive multispectral imagers can be transformative for various imaging and sensing applications and be used at different parts of the electromagnetic spectrum where high-density and wide-area multispectral pixel arrays are not widely available.

Fluoride is a key ingredient of many psychiatric drugs like fluoxetine(Prozac■Fluoxetine■).Pregnant women frequently use this drug as they suffer from depression and anxiety disorders during this *** is able to reach the fetus through the placenta and passes to the newborn through *** the present study,female Wistar rats were treated with 5,10,and 20 mg/L fluoxetine(containing 94% fluorides)from pregnancy day 10 to day *** delivery,the levels of the enzymatic antioxidants in the brain of their offspring at postnatal day 2 were *** results showed that,in all fluoxetine exposed groups compared with the control group,there was a significant decrease(P0.05)in the activity of malondialdehyde and creatine *** results suggest that fluoxetine may be a developmental neurotoxicant due to presence of fluoride hence must be used carefully during pregnancy.

Imaging through diffusers presents a challenging problem with various digital image reconstruction solutions demonstrated to date using ***,we present a computer-free,all-optical image reconstruction method to see through random diffusers at the speed of *** deep learning,a set of transmissive diffractive surfaces are trained to all-optically reconstruct images of arbitrary objects that are completely covered by unknown,random phase *** the training stage,which is a one-time effort,the resulting diffractive surfaces are fabricated and form a passive optical network that is physically positioned between the unknown object and the image plane to all-optically reconstruct the object pattern through an unknown,new phase *** experimentally demonstrated this concept using coherent THz illumination and all-optically reconstructed objects distorted by unknown,random diffusers,never used during *** digital methods,all-optical diffractive reconstructions do not require power except for the illumination *** diffractive solution to see through diffusers can be extended to other wavelengths,and might fuel various applications in biomedical imaging,astronomy,atmospheric sciences,oceanography,security,robotics,autonomous vehicles,among many others.

AIM: To investigate the liver stiffness measurement (LSM) applicability and variability with reference to three probe positions according to the region of liver biopsy. METHODS: The applicability for LSM was defined as at least 10 valid measurements with a success rate greater than 60% and an interquartile range/median LSM < 30%. The LSM variability compared the inter-position concordance and the concordance with FibroTest. RESULTS: Four hundred and forty two consecutive patients were included. The applicability of the anterior position (81%) was significantly higher than that of the reference (69%) and lower positions (68%), (both P = 0.0001). There was a signif icant difference (0.5 kPa, 95% CI 0.13-0.89; P < 0.0001) between mean LSM estimated at the reference position (9.3 kPa) vs the anterior position (8.8 kPa). Discordance between positions was associated with thoracic fold (P = 0.008). The discordance rate between the reference position result and FibroTest was higher when the 7.1 kPa cutoff was used to define advanced fibrosis instead of 8.8 kPa (33.6% vs 23.5%, P = 0.03).CONCLUSION: The anterior position of the probe should be the fi rst choice for LSM using Fibroscan, as it has a higher applicability without higher variability compared to the usual liver biopsy position.

Infertility and gynaecological cancer are two major problems in the field of women's health, where both have serious implications on a woman's physical, social and emotional wellbeing. There are well established links between many aspects of infertility and different types of gynaecological malignancies, including etiology, pathogenesis and disease management. In this special issue there are valuable articles that highlight different aspects of the relationship between infertility and gynaecological oncology. The issue covers conditions that represent risk factors for both infertility and gynaecological neoplasia. There is emphasis on the role of the fallopian tube being a critical organ for both conditions. There is a review on the advances in cancer diagnosis and treatment with consideration of the preservation of patient fertility. The various technologies for fertility preservation are reviewed and their strengths and weaknesses discussed. One of the important fertility preservation techniques is cryopreservation of embryo oocytes or ovarian tissue. This special issue emphasises that fertility preservation is now an important consideration in oncology clinics, and the options available to patients are routinely offered. Future developments will offer women in this difficult situation more options for fertility preservation, with an individualised approach for each patient. Equally, for infertile patients it is important to assess the risk of malignancy so as to provide optimal and timely intervention.
