Glidant effect of hydrophobic and hydrophilic nanosilica on a cohesive powder： Comparison of different flow characterization techniques

The methods used for flow characterization of a powder mass include the angle of repose （AOR）, Carr index （CI）, and powder flow tester （PFT）. The use of nanosilica as a flow modifier （glidant） is very common in industry. This study aims to compare the glidant effect of hydrophobic and hydrophilic silica on a poorly flowable active pharmaceutical ingredient （ibuprofen） by different flow characterization techniques. Different percentages （0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 wt%） of both types of mixed silica–ibuprofen powders were evaluated by the AOR, CI, bulk density, and PFT. The flow factor, effective angle of friction, and cohesion were determined to explain the bulk powder properties. The results show that different types of silica show different levels of flow property improvement, but the techniques do not equally discriminate the differences. Hydrophobic silica results in better improvement of the flow property than hydrophilic silica, probably because of its better surface coverage of silica on the host particles. Change of the bulk density with applied pressure was significant for the different powders. This study demonstrates that combining several characterization methods provides a better understanding of bulk powder flow properties with respect to powder–process relationships than a single flow indicator.

Air pollution is a significant problem in modern societies since it has a serious impact on human health and the *** Matter(PM_(2.5))is a type of air pollution that contains of interrupted elements with a diameter less than or equal to 2.5 *** risk assessment and epidemiological investigations,a better knowledge of the spatiotemporal variation of PM_(2.5) concentration in a constant space-time area is *** spatiotemporal interpolation approaches commonly relying on robust presumption by limiting interpolation algorithms to those with explicit and basic mathematical expression,ignoring a plethora of hidden but crucial manipulating *** advanced deep learning approaches have been proposed to forecast Particulate Matter(PM_(2.5)).Recurrent neural network(RNN)is one of the popular deep learning architectures which is widely employed in PM_(2.5) concentration *** this research,we proposed a Two-State Gated Recurrent Unit(TS-GRU)for monitoring and estimating the PM_(2.5) concentration forecasting *** proposed algorithm is capable of considering both spatial and temporal hidden affecting elements *** tested our model using data from daily PM_(2.5) dimensions taken in the contactual southeast area of the United States in *** the studies,three evaluation matrices were utilized to compare the overall performance of each algorithm:Mean Absolute Error(MAE),Root Mean Square Error(RMSE),and Mean Absolute Percentage Error(MAPE).The experimental results revealed that our proposed TS-GRU model outperformed compared to the other deep learning approaches in terms of forecasting performance.

Bituminous materials play a crucial role in the construction industry, serving as essential binders in asphalt mixtures. Understanding their bonding behavior, mechanism, and characterization is imperative for enhancing pavement performance, durability, and sustainability. Despite the widespread use of bituminous materials, challenges persist in optimizing their physical, rheological, and mechanical properties, addressing aging effects,and developing eco-friendly alternatives. The modification can be made by incorporating modifiers or additives, such as anti-stripping agents, surfactants, and bonding promoters,at their optimal dosages. Technically, the cohesion and adhesion bonds could be reinforced by adding a designated percentage of additives to the asphalt binder and within the asphalt-aggregate interfaces in asphalt mixtures. Prior to improving the pavement materials for road construction, adhesion and wetting properties also need to be given crucial attention. The inter-surface characteristics and their morphological behavior significantly influence the adhesion and cohesion bonding within binder-aggregate matrices, as indicated by the good correlations in both dry and wet conditions between failure pattern and bond strength. This review highlights recent breakthroughs in bituminous material research, emphasizing innovative approaches to enhance performance, durability, and environmental compatibility, providing insights for future advancements in asphalt pavement engineering. To advance the development of robust, environmentally sensitive asphalt pavements and guarantee a sustainable and effective transportation infrastructure for years to come, cooperation between researchers, engineers, and industry stakeholders is important.

In Terengganu, Longtail tuna or Thunnus tonggol is one of the most popular marine fishes landed by fishermen and has a high demand among customers. This species often served with a unique local delicacy called Nasi Dagang and Ikan Singgang, one of the favourite meals during breakfast by local communities. Since people have always consumed this species, therefore this study aims to identify the consumption rate of this species among Terengganu people. Specifically, this survey data obtained from 124 respondents, ages ranged from 15 to 60 years old from five districts in Terengganu, including Besut, Kuala Nerus, Kuala Terengganu, Hulu Terengganu, and Kemaman. Generally, the estimated amount of this species consumption is 239.7 g per person and 1.83 times per week. From the formula calculated, the amount of this species consumed by one person is 437.4 g/person/week. This value can use to calculate the permissible tolerable weekly intake (PTWI) to estimate the intake of pollutants, such as heavy metals in the human body.

Radiographic Equipment and Accessories as a Potential Source of Nosocomial Infection

Background: Nosocomial infections have become a major challenge in healthcare facilities as they affect the quality of medical care. Radiological imaging plays a crucial role in medical diagnosis. However, the equipment and accessories used increase the risk of transmission of nosocomial bacteria. Objective: This study aims to reveal the extent and nature of microbiological contamination in four hospital diagnostic imaging departments to determine their potential role in the spread of nosocomial bacteria and to evaluate the effectiveness of routine daily disinfection practices in controlling microorganisms in diagnostic imaging departments. Methods & Results: In each department, swabs were taken from the surfaces of selected parts of the equipment and accessories three times a day (early morning, noon, and evening) for five consecutive days. Bacteria were isolated from 65 swabs (36.1% of all samples). The bacteria were isolated 3 times (4.6%) in the morning, 16 times (24.6%) at midday, and 46 times (70.7%) in the evening. The bacteria isolated were Escherichia coli (isolated 34 times;52.3%), Staphylococcus aureus (20 times;30.8%), Staphylococcus epidermidis (6 times;9.3%), and Klebsiella species (5 times;7.7%). Discussion & Conclusion: Findings demonstrated that radiology equipment and accessories are not free of bacteria and further improvements in the sterilization and disinfection of radiology equipment and accessories are needed to protect staff and patients from nosocomial infections.

结合在自然环境条件下开展徐变试验和既有研究成果,对现有可考虑温度影响的徐变模型包括fahmi提出的基于时间-温度等效原理的徐变模型、CEB-FIP(1990)模型、BP模型、B3模型和组合徐变模型进行比选,并将比选出的组合徐变模型应用于预应力混凝土梁桥的徐变效应分析中。假定徐变符合弹性徐变理论,基于初应变法解决了应用组合徐变模型进行桥梁结构徐变效应分析的问题。通过将基于组合徐变模型和依据我国公路04桥规分析得到的桥梁结构变形、应力和预应力损失结果进行比较,探究忽略实际变温对徐变影响可能导致的桥梁结构行为估算偏差。研究结果表明:考虑实际环境变温影响的徐变系数预测值与试验值更为贴近,现行徐变模型因未计入环境变温影响,可能低估了冬季和春季浇注混凝土的徐变,高估了夏季和秋季浇注混凝土的徐变;在考虑自然环境温度影响的徐变作用下,梁体下挠度可较规范值大约15.5 mm,截面应力与规范值的最大相对偏差约为10%,预应力损失可较规范值大约40%以上。随机变温作用下混凝土徐变,加剧了桥梁梁体持续下挠、混凝土开裂和预应力损失等问题。因此,在桥梁结构设计中推荐采用组合徐变模型计入实际环境变温对结构混凝土徐变行为的影响,从而为预应力束的合理布置与张拉控制、梁体预拱度的准确设置等方面提供参考。
