Antioxidant,antimicrobial,cytotoxic and analgesic activities of ethanolic extract of Mentha arvensis L.

Objective:To investigate potential antioxidant,antimicrobial,cytotoxic and analgesic activities of ethanolic extract of Mentha arrensis l.,in different in vivo and in vitro experimental ***:In vitro DPPH radical scavenging assay was used to evaluate the antioxidant activity of the plant *** vivo analgesic activity was carried out by acetic acid—induced writhing test in Swiss albino *** studies in mice were undertaken at the doses of 250 and 500 mg/kg body *** activilv was studied by disk diffusion assay against some Gram—positive and Gram—negative bacterial *** shrimp lethality assay was used to investigate cyloloxicity effects of the plant ***:The extract showed free radical scavenging activity in the DPPH assay(IC5041 μg/mL)compared to the standard antioxidant ascorbic acid(IC5019 μg/mL).The extract also produced prominent antimicrobial activity against Salmonella *** *** boydii,Streptococcus pyogenes and Streptococcus aureus compared to standard drug kanamycin at the dose of 30 μg/*** extract exhibited lethality against the brine shrimp nauplii with the LC50,values of 40 μg/*** also 90%mortality(LC90) value was found to be 160 μg/*** analgesic *** extract demonstrated statistically significant（P<0.01） analgesic effect in acetic acid induced writhing in white albino mice al both dose ***:These results suggest that the ethanolic extract of Mentha arvenns *** potential antioxidant,antibacterial,cytotoxic and analgesic activities that support the ethnopharmacological uses of this plant.

Performance Analysis under MAC Layer Misbehavior Attack in Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks

This work presents a multi-criteria analysis of the MAC （media access control） layer misbehavior of the IEEE （Institute of electrical and electronics Engineers） 802.11 standard, whose principle is to cheat at the protocol to increase the transmission rate by greedy nodes at the expense of the other honest nodes. In fact, IEEE 802.11 forces nodes for access to the channel to wait for a back off interval, randomly selected from a specified range, before initiating a transmission. Greedy nodes may wait for smaller back-off intervals than honest nodes, and then obtaining an unfair assignment. In the first of our works a state of art on the research on IEEE 802.11 MAC layer misbehavior are presented. Then the impact of this misbehavior at the reception is given, and we will generalize this impact on a large scale. An analysis of the correlation between the throughput and the inter-packets time is given. Afterwards, we will define a new metric for measuring the performance and capability of the network.

Heart Diseases Diagnosis Using Intelligent Algorithm Based on PCG Signal Analysis

This paper presents an intelligent algorithm for heart diseases diagnosis using phonocardiogram (PCG). The proposed technique consists of four stages: Data acquisition, pre-processing, feature extraction and classification. PASCAL heart sound database is used in this research. The second stage concerns with removing noise and artifacts from the PCG signals. Feature extraction stage is carried out using discrete wavelet transform (DWT). Finally, artificial neural network (ANN) has been used for classification stage with an overall accuracy 97%.

Prevalence of plasmid mediated bla_(TEM-1) and bla_(CTX-M-15) type extended spectrum beta-lactamases in patients with sepsis

Objective:To characterize the bacterial pathogens in patients having gram negative septicaemia. Further,to evaluate the antimicrobial resistance and underlying molecular mechanisms in these ***:A total number of 70 cases of gram negative sepsis were included in this prospective,open labeled,observational *** methods for isolation and identification of bacteria were *** susceptibility and ESBL testing was performed by the standard disc diffusion *** amplification was performed to identify blaCTX-M,blaSHVand blaTEM type *** experiments were performed to show resistant marker transfer. Results:The most prevalent isolates Escherichia coli（***） 58.6%,Klebsiella Spp.32.9%and Pseudomonas 8.6%,were resistant to most of the antimicrobials including cefazolin,ceftriaxone, cefuroxime,ampicillin and co-trimoxazole but sensitive to imipenem and *** and MBL production was seen 7.3%and 12.2%of *** isolates *** isoaltes were found to have blaCTX-M-15 and two of them also showed blaTEM-1 type ***, none of them showed blaSHV.Conjugation experiments using J-53 cells confirmed these resistant markers as plasmid ***:This work highlights the molecular epidemiology of escalating antimicrobial resistance and likely switch over of blaCTX-M-15 type extended spectrum beta-lactamases by blaTEM type ESBLs in ***,the antimicrobial resistance by horizontal gene transfer was predominant among Enterobacteraceae in the community setting.

This study examined if the anti-tumorigenesis effect of Exendin-4 in HT29 and HCT116 colorectal cancer(CRC)involves modulation of SIRT1 and Akt/GSR3K/β-catenin/NF-κB ***29 and HCT116 cells were treated either with increasing levels of Exendin-4(0.0-200μM)or with Exendin-4(at its IC50)in the presence or absence of EX-527(10μM/a selective SIRT1 inhibitor)or Exendin-4(9-39)amide(E(9-39)A)(1μM/an Exendin-4 antagonist).In a dose-dependent manner,Exendin-4 inhibited cell survival,but enhanced levels of lactate dehydrogenase(LDH)and single-stranded DNA(ssDNA)in both HT29 and *** both cell lines and at it has an IC50(45μM for HT29 and 35μM for HCT1165),Exendin-4 also significantly reduced cell survival,migration,and invasion of both cell types,with no effect on the expression GLP-1 receptors(GLPRs)nor of the activity of *** these doses,Exendin-4 also increased the expression of SIRT1 but reduced the acetylation of NF-κB and the expression of Bax and cleaved caspase-3 and in both cell ***,protein levels of p-GS3Kβ(Ser9),total and acetylatedβ-catenin,and Anix2 were significantly decreased,but levels of p-GS3Kβ(Ser9)and p-β-catenin(Ser33/37/Thr41)were significantly increased in both HT29 and HCT116-exendin-4 treated *** the effects exerted by Exendin-4 were completely prevented by Ex527 or E(9-39)*** conclusion,Exendin-4 suppresses the tumorigenesis of HT29 and HCT116 CRC cell activation of GS3Kβ-induced inhibition ofβ-catenin and NF-κβin a SIRT1-dependent mechanism.

Prediction of Acute Renal Failure in Dengue Fever Patients

Background: Dengue virus (DENV) infection is caused by an arboviral strain and is transmitted by the mosquito Aedes aegypti which is found in Sudan especially Red Sea and Kassala states in the east. The disease is known to cause renal disturbances and a thorough understanding of that will potentially help in the prediction, diagnosis and treatment of the disease. Methods: This study is a prospective observational cross sectional study conducted in the Eastern Sudan College of Medical Science and Technology and Port Sudan Teaching Hospital. 200 confirmed Dengue virus infected patients along with 200 healthy appearing adults (control) were enrolled for the study. Statistical analysis was carried out after the collection of patients’ demographic, clinical, and investigational data including serum urea and creatinine values. Ethical approval was obtained from the ministry of health, Red Sea state and informed written consent was obtained from each participant. Results: The highest incidence of DENV infection was observed in individuals of the middle age group (29%). elevated blood urea levels were detected in 10 (5%) patients while elevated creatinine levels were seen in 17 (8.5%) patients. Although fallen within reference ranges found in the literature, mean blood urea and creatinine values differed significantly between patients and controls and between different categories of the disease. Mean blood urea concentration showed a statistically significant difference between the control (22.3 mg/dl) and the test (28.4 mg/dl) (P value Conclusion: We strongly conclude that renal involvement is not uncommon in Dengue fever and that blood urea and creatinine evaluation should be considered in the counseling of DENV infection patients. Patients need to be subjected to necessary laboratory investigations associated with acute kidney injury to decrease the rate of morbidity and mortality associated with the disease.

Machine learning (ML) becomes a familiar topic among decisionmakers in several domains, particularly healthcare. Effective design of MLmodels assists to detect and classify the occurrence of diseases using healthcaredata. Besides, the parameter tuning of the ML models is also essentialto accomplish effective classification results. This article develops a novelred colobuses monkey optimization with kernel extreme learning machine(RCMO-KelM) technique for epileptic seizure detection and *** proposed RCMO-KelM technique initially extracts the chaotic, time,and frequency domain features in the actual EEG signals. In addition, the minmax normalization approach is employed for the pre-processing of the EEGsignals. Moreover, KelM model is used for the detection and classificationof epileptic seizures utilizing EEG signal. Furthermore, the RCMO techniquewas utilized for the optimal parameter tuning of the KelM technique insuch a way that the overall detection outcomes can be considerably *** experimental result analysis of the RCMO-KelM technique has beenexamined using benchmark dataset and the results are inspected under severalaspects. The comparative result analysis reported the better outcomes of theRCMO-KelM technique over the recent approaches with the accuy of 0.956.

The disease is known to cause renal and electrolyte disturbances and a thorough understanding of that which will potentially help in the prediction, diagnosis and treatment of the disease. Methods: This study is a prospective observational cross sectional study conducted in the Eastern Sudan College of Medical Science and Technology and Port Sudan Teaching Hospital. 200 confirmed Dengue virus infection patients along with 200 healthy appearing adults (as a control) were enrolled for the study. Statistical analysis was carried out after the collection of patients’ demographic, clinical, and investigational data including electrolyte values. Results: The highest incidence of DENV infection was observed in individuals of the middle age group (29%). Although fallen within reference ranges found in the literature, mean serum electrolyte values differed significantly between patients and controls and between different categories of the disease. For our patients, hyponatraemia was seen in 43.5%, hypokalaemia in 37%, hypocalcaemia in 30%, hypophosphataemia in 12% and low magnesium concentrations in 13%. Mean serum sodium concentration differed in the control (138.2 mmol/l) from in the test (132.5 mmol/l) (P. value 0.02). Similarly, mean serum potassium in the control (3.97 mmol/l) differed significantly (P. value 0.01) from test (3.30 mmol/l). Mean calcium and phosphorus (8.80 and 3.50 mg/dl) in the control were also differed from test (8.51 and 3.30), (P. values 0.02 and 0.004, respectively). In contrast, serum magnesium (mg/dl) in the control group (1.96) showed no significant difference from that of test group (1.90) (P. value 0.08).
