The ground sta.e properties of the spherica. nucleus ^40Ca.ha.e been investiga.ed by using constra.ned spherica. ha.tree Fock （CShF） a.proxima.ion a. equilibrium a.d under high ra.ia. compression in a.six ma.or shells. The effective ba.yon-ba.yon intera.tion tha. includes the △（1236） resona.ce freedom degrees to ca.cula.e nuclea. properties is used. The nucleon-nucleon （N-N） intera.tion is ba.ed on Reid soft core （RSC） potentia.. The results of ca.cula.ions show tha. much of increa.e in the nuclea. energy genera.ed under compression is used to crea.e the ma.sive △ pa.ticles. The number of △ ＇s ca. be increa.ed to a.out 2.1% of constituents of nucleus when nuclea. density rea.hes a.out 1.34 times of norma. density. The single pa.ticle energy levels a.e ca.cula.ed a.d their beha.ior under compression is a.so exa.ined. △ good a.reement ha. been found between current ca.cula.ions a.d phenomenologica. shell model for low lying single-pa.ticle spectra. The ga. between shells is very clea. a.d L-S coupling become stronger a. increa.ing the sta.ic loa. on the nucleus. The results show a.considera.le reduction in compressibility when freedom degrees of △＇s a.e ta.en into a.count. It ha. been found tha. the tota. nuclea. ra.ia. density becomes denser in the interior a.d less dense in the exterior region of nucleus. The surfa.e of nucleus becomes more a.d more responsive to compression tha. outer region.

Ground improvement ha. been used on ma.y construction sites to densify gra.ula. ma.eria.s, in other word, to improve soil properties a.d reduce potentia. settlement. This work presents a.ca.e study of ground improvement using ra.id impa.t compa.tion （RIC）. The resea.ch site comprises the construction of workshop a.d depots a. pa.t of ra.lwa. development project a. Ba.u Ga.a.-Ipoh, Ma.a.sia. In-situ testing results show tha. the subsurfa.e soil comprises ma.nly of sa.d a.d silty sa.d through the investiga.ed depth extended to 10 m. Groundwa.er is a.proxima.ely 0.5 m below the ground surfa.e. Eva.ua.ion of improvement wa. ba.ed on the results of pre- a.d post-improvement cone penetra.ion test （CPT）. Interpreta.ion softwa.e ha. been used to infer soil properties. Loa. test wa. conducted to estima.e soil settlement. It is found tha. the technique succeeds in improving soil properties na.ely the rela.ive density increa.es from 45% to 70%, the friction a.gle of soil is increa.ed by a. a.era.e of 3°, a.d the soil settlement is reduced by 50%： The technique succeeds in improving soil properties to a.proxima.ely 5.0 m in depth depending on soil uniformity with depth.

Dyna.ic cone penetrometer（DCP） ha. been used for deca.es to estima.e the shea. strength a.d stiffness properties of the subgra.e soils. There a.e severa. empirica. correla.ions in the litera.ure to predict the resilient modulus va.ues a. only a.specific stress sta.e from DCP da.a. corresponding to the predefined thicknesses of pa.ement la.ers（a.50 mm a.pha.t wea.ing course, a.100 mm a.pha.t binder course a.d a.00 mm a.grega.e ba.e course）. In this study, field-mea.ured DCP da.a.were utilized to estima.e the resilient modulus of low-pla.ticity subgra.e Piedmont residua. soil. Piedmont residua. soils a.e in-pla.e wea.hered soils from igneous a.d meta.orphic rocks, a. opposed to tra.sported or compa.ted *** the existing empirica. correla.ions might not be a.plica.le for these soils. a. experimenta. progra. wa. conducted incorpora.ing field DCP a.d la.ora.ory resilient modulus tests on "undisturbed" soil specimens. The DCP tests were ca.ried out a. va.ious loca.ions in four test sections to eva.ua.e subgra.e stiffness va.ia.ion la.era.ly a.d with depth. La.ora.ory resilient modulus test results were a.a.yzed in the context of the mecha.istic-empirica. pa.ement design guide（MEPDG） recommended universa. constitutive model. a.new a.proa.h for predicting the resilient modulus from DCP by estima.ing MEPDG constitutive model coefficients（k;,k;a.d k;） wa. developed through sta.istica. a.a.yses. The new model is ca.a.le of not only ta.ing into a.count the in situ soil condition on the ba.is of field mea.urements,but a.so representing the resilient modulus a. a.y stress sta.e which a.dresses a.limita.ion with existing empirica. DCP models a.d its a.plica.ility for a.specific ca.e. Va.ida.ion of the model is demonstra.ed by using da.a.tha. were not used for model development, a. well a. da.a.reported in the litera.ure.
