The aim of this study is to investigate the dynamic stress-strain relation for the hybrid composite （nylon ＋carbon）. Three groups of specimens are used with different number of carbon layers. The specimens were subjected to high velocity impact with different strain rates. SHPB （split Hopkinson pressure bar） is used in this investigation. The results show that, the stress-strain relation various with the strain rate. The maximum stress and strain are proportion directly with the strain rate. Also, the results revealed that, as the number of carbon layer increased, the maximum strain decreased.

In this study, the bending test is used to investigate the glass transition temperature for epoxy reinforced with three types ot fibers, fiberglass, Kevlar and synthetic wool, these materials have a wide used in many application which they are used composite materials. The glass transition temperature can be measured at the point of inflection for ＂the curve of variation of the deflection and temperature. The results show that, the glass transition temperature is affected by the type of the reinforcement of the composites. On the other hand, the glass transition temperature of the wool composite is higher than the other.

Medical ultrasound imaging with Doppler plays an essential role in the diagnosis of vascular disease. This study intended to review the clinical use of "to-and-fro" waveform at duplex Doppler ultrasonography(DDU) in the diagnosis of pseudoaneurysms in the arterial vessels of upper and lower extremities, abdominal aorta, carotid and vertebral arteries as well as to review our personal experiences of "to-and-fro" waveform at DDU also. After receiving institutional review board approval, an inclusive literature review was carried out in order to review the scientific foundation of "toand-fro" waveform at DDU and its clinical use in the diagnosis of pseudoaneurysms in various arterial vessels. Articles published in the English language between 2000 and 2013 were evaluated in this review study. Pseudoaneurysms in arterial vessels of the upper and lower extremities, abdominal aorta, carotid and vertebral arteries characterized by an extraluminal pattern of blood flow, which shows variable echogenicity, interval complexity, and "to-and-fro" flow pattern on color Doppler ultrasonography. In these arterial vessels, Duplex ultrasonography can demonstrate the degree of clotting, pseudoaneurysm communication, the blood flow patterns and velocities. Spectral Doppler applied to pseudoaneurysms lumen revealed systolic and diastolic turbulent blood flow with traditional "toand-fro" waveform in the communicating channel. Accurate diagnosis of pseudoaneurysm by spectral Doppler is based on the documentation of the "to-andfro" waveform. The size of pseudoaneurysm determines the appropriate treatment approach as surgical or conservative.

The aim of the study was to review traumatic splenic injury following blunt abdominal trauma (BAT), during the period from January 2009 to January 2015 at SQUH. The data for this study was retrospectively collected. It included 768 patients admitted to SQUH general surgery department following BAT. 43 patients with splenic injury were identified (34 males, 9 females). The mean age of patients with splenic injury was 36.0 years (34.4 years for males, 42.1 years for females). The most common mechanism of injury was motor vehicle collision (90.7%). Grade I, II are the most common grades of splenic injury. Non-Omani patients accounted for (51.2%) and most of them were pedestrians at the time of trauma. Ribs fracture is the most common injury associated with splenic injury. 36 (83.7%) patients were managed conservatively and 7 (16.3%) patients were splenectomized. Angioembolization was done for 11 (30.6%) patients. Despite the small population of Oman, high incidence of motor vehicle collision (MVC) increases the incidence of splenic injury among young age group.

Cathodic Protection system is an efficient system used for protecting the underground metal objects from corrosion. In this paper the use of Cathodic Protection (CP) system and how they can be developed to simulate corrosion control solution was illustrated. The aim of developing a Cathodic Protection system is to provide control over oil pipelines and to reduce the incidence of corrosion. The proposed system integrates the technology of wireless sensor Network (WSN) in order to collect potential data and to realize remote data transmission. In this system each WSN receives the data from the environment and forwards it to a Remote Terminal Unit (RTU). Then each RTU forwards it to its base station (BS). In this work Labview 2010 program was used, due to its high potentials. In addition it contains a Tool Kit that supports the wireless sensor network. In this simulation used many cases study to test and monitoring data and get optimum results, least time delay and high speed to prevent corrosion.

Preoperative embolization of skull-base tumors: Indications, utility, and concerns

Skull-base tumors are generally difficult to access compared with many other cranial lesions. Usually surgery remains the gold standard treatment for the majority of these tumors. However, in many cases, surgical resection is a challenge because the disease usually is already in the advanced stage by the time of diagnosis. Additionally, there are hypervascular lesions which cause excessive loss of blood, then results in multiple blood transfusions and prolonged operative time, increases the risk of neural injury and prevents complete excision. In order to reduce blood loss intraoperatively, many alternatives were available with the neurosurgical armamentarium, such as head elevation, intravenous use of tranexamic acid, total intravenous anesthesia and even preoperative embolization of tumors. However, preoperative embolization carries variable results, potentially aggravating edema and increasing tumor size. To ascertain the current status and the up-to-date indications, an evaluation of the therapeutic role of preoperative embolization was performed in the current study.
