A reconciliation of the disagreement on whether financial globalization(FG)affects ecological footprint through the scale,technique and composition effects cannot be achieved without an explicit understanding of the direct and indirect interactions of FG with environmental ***,the novel perspective of this study lies in the investigation of how green innovations moderate the non-linear tendencies in the FG-environmental sustainability link among western African states given the abundance of natural resources and the prevailing pace of economic *** core findings are obtained from robust analysis based on cross-sectional autoregressive distributed lag(CS-ARDL)technique,the augmented mean group(AMG)technique,and the common correlated effects mean group(CCEMG)advanced ***,the beneficial ecological impacts of green innovations were *** per direct impact,enhanced financial globalization(FG)exhibits non-linear detrimental ecological ***,green innovations cushion the observed adverse ecological effects of ***,resource rents reduce ecological footprint within the moderating framework of green innovation as the environmental Kuznets curve(EKC)is validated among the ***,a bidirectional causal link between financial globalization,green innovations,economic growth,natural resources,and ecological footprint was ***,the significant policy implication is for the West African states to decisively increase their investments in green innovations while strategically encouraging the share of ecologically friendly resources in total resource utilization to guarantee a more sustainable environment.

Soil and Land Suitability Assessment for Rice Cultivation at Tono Irrigation Area in the Upper East Region, Ghana

Agriculture is one of the livelihood supports for the people of Upper East Region of Ghana. Soil evaluation research was conducted at Tono Irrigation Scheme to assess soil and land suitability for rice cultivation in the irrigable area of Tono Irrigation Scheme. A total of eleven (11) soil samples were collected and analysed for their chemical and physical properties. Based on field observation and criteria for soil suitability assessment, the different soil types that were identified were classified at the series level based on their position, parent material and the observed physical characteristics. The results indicated that the pH of the soils was within the acceptable range for crop production;however, the overall fertility level of the soils was very low. Physically, the upland soils were well to moderately well-drained, consisting of coarse-grained sandy loams topsoil overlying similar sandy loams and sandy clay loams at depth. They included Leptosols and Lixisols. The soils of the Scheme under lowlands and valley bottom sites, however, included Eutric Gleysol, Calsic Vertisol, Eutric Fluvisol and Eutric Plinthosol, which were heavily textured and relatively poor drained, or medium-textured and moderately to imperfectly well-drained. They showed a low to a very low rate of water percolation losses, which is good for the current farming system of cropping rice within the lowlands and valley bottom sites of the Scheme.

The White Volta Basin, Climate Change and Food Security： Perspectives of Riparian Communities in Northern Ghana

This paper has examined how the resources of the White Volta River are enhancing food availability for riparian communities in northern Ghana despite climate change and its associated effects on food security. Using participatory methods such as focus group discussions and interviews, data was collected from households and institutions in three riparian communities. The result of the study indicates that, all things been equal, cultivation of food crops along the river bank in the rainy season gives significantly high yields as compared to yields from farms farthest from the river under rain fed agriculture. Higher organic content and moisture retention capacity of river bank soils explains the yield differential and adaptability to climate change. In addition, farmers now irrigate cereal crops which were hitherto, reserved for only rainy season production. However, inappropriate irrigation practices are accelerating erosion and sedimentation of the river and thus, threaten the sustainability of agriculture and food security in the White Volta Basin. The paper therefore, recommends the adoption of IWRM （integrated water resources management） and the participation of local communities, Government and Civil Society organisations for sustaining the productive capacity of the White Volta Basin for enabling adaptation of agriculture to climate change in the riparian communities of the basin.

Deflection behavior of a prestressed concrete beam reinforced with carbon fibers at elevated temperatures

Fiber reinforced polymer(FRP) have unique advantages like high strength to weight ratio,excellent corrosion resistance,improving deformability and cost *** advantages have gained wide acceptance in civil engineering *** tendons for prestressing applications are emerging as one of the most promising technologies in the civil engineering ***,the behavior of such members under the influence of elevated temperatures is still *** knowledge and application of this could lead to a cost effective and practical considerations in fire safety ***,this study examines the deflection behavior of the carbon fiber reinforced polymer(CFRP) prestressed concrete beam at elevated *** this article,an analytical model is developed which integrates the temperature dependent changes of effective modulus of FRP in predicting the deflection behavior of CFRP prestressed concrete beams within the range of practical *** model is compared with a finite element mode (FEM) of a simply supported concrete beam prestressed with CFRP subjected to practical elevated *** addition,comparison is also made with an indirect reference to the real behavior of the *** results of the model correlated reasonably with the finite element model and the real ***,a practical application is provided.

MULTIDIMENSIONAL RELAXATION APPROXIMATIONS FOR HYPERBOLIC SYSTEMS OF CONSERVATION LAWS

We construct and implement a non-oscillatory relaxation scheme for multidimensional hyperbolic systems of conservation laws. The method transforms the nonlinear hyperbolic system to a semilinear model with a relaxation source term and linear characteristics which can be solved numerically without using either Riemann solver or linear iterations. To discretize the relaxation system we consider a high-resolution reconstruction in space and a TVD Runge-Kutta time integration. Detailed formulation of the scheme is given for problems in three space dimensions and numerical experiments are implemented in both scalar and system cases to show the effectiveness of the method.

Recent advances on flexible electrodes for Na-ion batteries and Li–S batteries

Flexible energy storage devices are essential for emerging flexible electronics. The existing state-of-the-art Li-ion batteries are slowly reaching their limitation in terms of cost and energy density. Hence, flexible Na-ion batteries (SIBs) with abundanee Na resources and Li-S batteries with high energy density become the alternative for the Li-ion batteries in future. This review summarizes the recent advances in the development of flexible electrode materials for SIBs with metallic matrix and carb on aceous matrix such as carb on nano-tubes, carbon nano-fiber, graphene, carbon cloth, carbon fiber cloth, and cotton textiles. Then, the potential prototype flexible full SIBs are discussed. Further, the recent progress in the development of flexible electrode materials for Li-S batteries based on carb on nano-fiber, carb on nano-tubes, graphene, and cotton textiles is reviewed. Moreover, the design strategies of suitable interlayer, separator, electrolyte, and electrodes to prevent the dissolution and shuttle effect of polysulfides in flexible Li-S batteries are provided. Finally some prospective investigation trends towards future research of flexible SIBs and Li-S batteries are also proposed and discussed. The scientific and engineering knowledge gained on flexible SIBs and Li-S batteries provides conceivable development for practical application in near future.

Adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system for predicting sub-daily Zenith Wet Delay

In recent years,the focus of tropospheric studies has evolved to GNSS meteorology and weather *** Zenith Wet Delay(ZWD),which might be assembled to the Integrated Water Vapour(IWV),is an essential component of the tropospheric *** predicted the ZWD with the required level of accuracy is crucial for weather *** scope of this study is to use the adaptive neural fuzzy inference system(ANFIS)to predict the ZWD for the following six-hour epoch based exclusively on the present the ZWD *** was developed and verified using 505 geographically and internationally distributed stations which were used for training and testing from 2008 to *** was assessed based on two ***,the correlation coefficient(R)values were found to be more than 0.8 in 98%of the stations,including those with highest and lowest latitudes,and the remaining 2% of stations located in coastal ***,the Root Mean Square Error(RMSE)values of the differences between the pre-dicted and the actual ZWD were considered to be the more important finding of the *** is,99.21% of the 505 stations had the RMSE values equal to or less than 3 cm,with only 4 stations having the RMSE values higher(0.2 mm)than 3 *** the results of this study achieved the required degree of ac-curacy from the predicted ZWD to be utilized in weather forecasting,they may also be beneficial for GNSS meteorology.

Modeling the capability of penetrating a jammed crowd to eliminate freezing transition

Frozen state from jammed state is one of the most interesting aspects produced when simulating the multidirectional pedestrian flow of high density crowds. Cases of real life situations for such a phenomenon are not exhaustively *** observations in the Hajj crowd show that freezing transition does not occur very often. On the contrary, penetrating a jammed crowd is a common aspect. We believe the kindness of pedestrians facing others whose walking is blocked is a main factor in eliminating the frozen state as well as in relieving the jammed state. We refine the social force model by incorporating a new social force to enable the simulated pedestrians to mimic the real behavior observed in the Hajj *** are performed to validate the work qualitatively.

Assessment of Potential Aerodrome Obstacles on Flight Safety Operations Using GIS: A Case of Murtala mohammed International Airport, Lagos-Nigeria

The study focuses on the spatial analysis of the threat of potential Aerodrome obstacles on flight safety operations, in Murtala mohammed Airport, Ikeja Lagos State. The study arises from the cases of flight safety in Nigerian airports which begins from the time passengers board the flight to the take-off time and location, the taxing of the plane and ends at the landing. The research employs GIS to model the 3D obstacles of the aerodrome, which demonstrated the ability in classifying the various threats on the aerodrome. The data acquired for this study ranging from primary data which included georeferencing of the obstacles that are found along the aerodrome with a Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) to secondary data which included all base maps and satellite images. The spatial data conversion and manipulations were done using the ArcGIS 10.3.1 software. The 3D simulation of the obstacles was done in the ArcScene environment. To examine the spatial patterns of the obstacles around the aerodrome, the Average Nearest Neighbour Analysis (ANN) was used as statistical function from ArcGIS. The obstacles found within the MM2 aerodrome were grouped into the tolerant and non-tolerant ones. However, the finding shows that MM2 aerodrome conforms to ICAO standards and recommended practices. The study thus recommends strict daily monitoring of flight route to mark objects for foundation on the non-tolerance zones.
