i.troducti.n: One of the most frequent observati.ns i. long-term blood donati.n i. chroni. i.on defi.i.ncy, whi.h can develop i.to anaemi.. The majori.y of blood screeni.g methods employed by blood banks do not i.corporate i.on-status markers, whi.h may result i. potenti.l subcli.i.al i.on defi.i.ncy. The ai. of thi. study was to evaluate the effects of repeated blood donati.n on the levels of i.on i. the body and to gui.e blood donors i. preventi.g the depleti.n of i.on stores. Methods: regular blood donors were categori.ed i.to di.ti.ct groups accordi.g to the number of donati.ns they gave, and then the correlati.n between these groups and thei. bodi.s’ i.on levels was exami.ed. Di.ferent parameters were employed to i.enti.y i.on defi.i.ncy and i.on depleti.n i. blood donors: serum ferri.i., mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular haemoglobi. (MCH), mean corpuscular haemoglobi. concentrati.n (MCHC), total i.on-bi.di.g capaci.y (Ti.C), and serum i.on. results: The study i.cluded 300 i.di.i.uals who regularly and wi.li.gly donated blood. There were no i.on i.suffi.i.ncy cases among those donati.g blood for the fi.st ti.e (Group i.. However, 15.5% of i.di.i.uals who had donated once before (Group i.) had ferri.i. levels of 15 - 30 μg/dl (ng/ml), i.di.ati.g reduced i.on stores. The rate i.creased to 18% (37 out of 206 i.di.i.uals) among regular blood donors (Groups i.i. i., and V). i.on defi.i.ncy (depleti.n) prevalence among regular blood donors i. Groups i.i. i., and V was 5.9% (12 out of 206) and 50.4% (100 out of 206). Donors who had donated blood most frequently had the lowest levels of haematologi.al markers MCH, MCHC, and Ti.C. Provi.e the p-values representi.g the di.ferences between the means of MCV, MCH, i.on, Ti.C, and ferri.i. levels when compari.g donor groups wi.h the control group (Group i. based on the frequency of donati.ns. i.di.ate stati.ti.ally si.ni.i.ant di.ferences where the p-value i. less than 0.0125.
