BACKGROUND Management of superficial bowel neoplasia(SBN)in early stages is associated with better *** last few decades experienced a paradigm shift in the management of SBN with the introduction of advanced endoscopic resection techniques(ERTs).However,there are no clear data about the aspects of ERTs in Egypt despite the growing gastroenterology *** To investigate the knowledge,attitude,and practice of ERTs toward management of SBN among Egyptian practitioners and the suitability of the endoscopy units’infrastructures toward these *** An online 2-pages questionnaire was *** first page comprised demographic data,and questions for all physicians,about the knowledge(11 questions)of and attitude(5 questions)toward ERTs as a therapeutic option for *** second page investigated the practice of ERTs by endoscopists(6 questions)and the infrastructures of their endoscopy units(14 questions).The survey was disseminated through July 2021 and the data were collected in an excel sheet and later analyzed *** The complete responses were 833/2300(36.2%).The majority of the participants were males(n=560,67.2%),middle-aged(n=366,43.9%),consultants(n=464,55.7%),gastroenterologists(n=678,81.4%),spending≥15 years in practice(n=368,44.2%),and were working in university hospitals(n=569,68.3%).The majority correctly identified the definition of SBN(88.4%)and the terms polypectomy,endoscopic mucosal resection(EMR),and endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD)(92.1%,90.2%,and 89.1%respectively).However,26.9%,43.2%and 49.5%did not recognize the clear indication of polypectomy,EMR,and ESD *** 68.1%of physicians are convinced about the ERTs for management of SBN;only 8.9%referred all candidate cases for *** 76.5%of endoscopists had formal training in the basic polypectomy techniques while formal training for EMR and ESD was encountered only in 31.9%and 7.2%*** 71.6%and 88.4%of endoscopists did not per

Effect of Salinity Stress and Mutagenic Sodium Azide on Callus Induction and Plant Regeneration of Borage （Borago officinalis） in Vitro

The effect ofmutagenic NaN3 at concentration （0.0, 2.0 and 4.0 mM） and salinity stress at the levels （6.5, 8.5, 10.5 and 12 dS/m） on the seeds germination, callus induction and plant regeneration fi＇om stressed callus of different borage explants were investigated. The results showed that （4.0 mM） NaN3 with 4 h incubation period increased germination percentage reached 83.3% rate. Moreover the responses of different explants for callus induction in the presence of different combinations from auxin and cytokines were varied and a combination of（2 mg/L ）from each of BA and IAA gave high callus fresh weight reached （229.6, 218.0, 237.3） for （shoot tips, cotyledon leaves and hypocotyls） respectively .Concerning to the effect of salinity stress on callus induction and plant regeneration a high reduction in callus flesh weight and plant regeneration were observed at the high level of NaCl.

Utilization of accident and emergency department at a semi-urban Nigerian hospital: a preliminary prospective study

Objective: To assess emergency department utilization at a semi-urban (resource-limited) Nigerian hospital. Methods: A systematic random sampling technique was adopted. A proforma was used to obtain general information such as age, gender, mode of transfer, time of presentation, symptom duration, diagnoses, treatment duration, treatment outcome (transfer to the ward, referral to another hospital, discharge or death) and date and time of discharge. Chi-square test and logistic regression analysis were used to determine the association of variables with mortality and predictors, respectively. Results: Patients were predominantly male (62.2%) with a mean age of (36.0±19.0) years. Most visits occurred in September (49.1%). The median symptom duration was 24 h (interquartile range: 4.0, 72.0 ). More incidences were caused by non-surgical (61.9%) than surgical reasons. Infectious diseases (predominantly malaria, 34.5%) and injuries from road traffic accidents (mostly head injuries, 9.4%) were the commonest non-surgical and surgical cause, respectively. The mortality rate was 9.2%. Typhoid-intestinal-perforation and sepsis contributed 45.2% of overall mortality. Age (x2=16.44, P<0.001), symptom duration (x2=22.57, P<0.001), and visiting month (Fishers exact, P=0.002) were associated with mortality. Moreover, age ( 37 years) (OR=4.60, 95%CI=1.96-10.82, P<0.001) and visiting in September/October (OR=4.01, 95%CI=1.47-10.93, P=0.007) were the predictors of mortality. Conclusions: Though most patients in emergency department survive, the mortality is still high. Appropriate hospital and community interventions should be implemented to reduce mortality.

Comparative Study of Radon Concentration in Houses and Soil in Najran Region, Saudi Arabia

Indoor radon concentration was measured in Najran region in the south west of Saudi Arabia using CR-39 based radon monitors. The objective of this work, which is the first of its kind in the region, is to get a representative data of radon in four villages, Fara Al-Jabal (1900 m above sea level) and Badr Al-Janoob (2,065 m above sea level), Hadadh (1740 m above sea level) and Al-Khanig (1600 m above sea level) during winter time. Indoor radon concentrations ranged from 9 to 163 Bq·m-3 with an average of 49±14 Bq·m-3. It was also found that the average radon concentration is independent of altitude. The average radon concentrations in soil were also measured at a depth of 50 cm and found to be 1439±207 Bq·m-3 and 2909±421 Bq·m-3 in Fara Al-Jabal and Hadadah respectively. It appears that the houses are well insulated from radon in soil, where there is a potential danger of radon from soil in these villages.

Occurrence of Fluoride in the Groundwater of Kaltungo Area and Environs, North Eastern Nigeria

The aim of the study is to assess the occurrence of fluoride in the groundwater of Kaltungo area and environs. Consumption of high fluoride waters clearly manifests in the majority inhabitant of the area in form of dental fluorosis especially in the majority of the populace. Thirty groundwater samples were collected from hand-dug wells and boreholes using standard method and were analyzed to determine the fluoride level. The results revealed that the Fluoride in the waters ranges from 0.8 to 1.94 mg/l with a mean value of 1.65 mg/l. No clear variations in fluoride content have been observed in both the borehole samples and those from the hand-dug wells. Ca-Mg-HCO3 and Ca-Mg-Cl are the two major water types obtained in the area, which have a good association with fluoride. Negative correlation is observed between fluoride and temperature, fluoride and magnesium, fluoride and potassium and poor correlation is observed between fluoride and chloride, fluoride and nitrate, fluoride and phosphates which rules out the possibility of anthropogenic source of the fluoride in the waters. Positive correlation between fluoride and iron, indicates that the presence of fluoride in the water is as a result of dissolution of biotite within the host rock (Basalt).

Schistosomiasis is a parasitic disease from the family of Schistosomatidae and genus Schistosoma,which is caused by blood *** disease is endemic in many countries and still a serious threat to global public health and *** this paper,a new deterministic model is designed and analyzed qualitatively to explore the dynamics of schistosomiasis transmission in human,cattle and snail *** from our mathematical analysis show that the model has a disease-free equilibrium(DFE)which is locally asymptotically stable(LAS)whenever a particular epidemiological threshold quantity,also known as basic reproduction number(R0)is less than *** analysis shows that the model has a unique endemic equilibrium(EE)which is globally asymptotically stable whenever R0>1 and unstable when R0<***,we adopt partial rank correlation coefficient for sensitivity analysis to reveal the most important parameters for effective control and mitigation of schistosomiasis disease in a ***,we obtain some numerical results by simulating the entire dynamics of the model,which show that the infections in the compartments of each population decrease with respect to *** further indicates that avoiding contact with infected human,cattle or infested water is vital to prevent the spread of schistosomiasis disease infection.

Neuroblastoma in Saudi Children: A Single Center Experience (2006-2014)

Introduction: Neuroblastoma is the most common extracranial solid tumor in childhood and survival rate has improved during the last few decades. Only a few studies, related to Neuroblastoma in Saudi Arabian children, have been performed. We report epidemiologic data and our clinical experience from the department of Pediatric Hematology Oncology (PHO), King Fahad Medical City (KFMC), Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Method: A retrospective observational study of all patients, with diagnosis of Neuroblastoma, who attended PHO-KFMC from July 2006 to June 2014 was performed. The survival periods (overall survival and disease-free survival) and the final outcomes for patients treated and followed at KFMC were recorded. The survival data were statistically correlated with the clinical, pathological and biological features of patients and tumors and compared to national and international cohorts. Results: Eight-year data were available for the 42 patients of which 22 (52.4%) were male and 20 (47.6%) were females. Age at diagnosis ranged 0 - 91 months with a mean and median of 26.3 and 18.5 months respectively. 16 (38.1%) patients were under one year and 26 (61.9%) above 1 year of age. The event-free survival (EFS) and overall survival (OS) rates were 66.5% and 71.5% respectively. EFS and OS among those who were <1 year age at presentation was 75% and 82%, whereas ≥1 yr age group had 59% and 62% survival rates respectively. Patients with tumors in the adrenal had considerably lower EFS (59%) and OS (63%);in comparison to patients with tumors sites other than the adrenal who had EFS and OS of 85% and 89% respectively. Both EFS and OS survival rates at the end of follow-up interval were 100.0%, in the low and intermediate risk groups. In contrast, patients in the high risk group had EFS and OS rates of 44% and 48% respectively. This difference was statistically significant (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Our results are very encouraging and comparable with known published international cohorts

AtzABC Catabolic Gene Probe from Novel Atrazine-Degrading Rhodococcus Strain Isolated from a Nigerian Agricultural Soil

A batch enrichment technique was used to isolate atrazine-degrading Rhodococcus sp strain from an agricultural land with history of atrazine application in Bauchi state, Northeastern Nigeria. The strain was identified on the basis of physiological, biochemical and 16S r RNA gene sequencing. Growth studies and HPLC analysis showed that the strain has potential of atrazine degradation. An investigation into the catabolic genes Atz ABC, which transform atrazine to cyanuric acid, confirms the chromosomal DNA of strain to harbor BC genes, as compared with the positive control, Rhodococcus jostii RHA1. The strain does not possess the Atz A in all catabolic gene probe carried out. The isolation and characterization of the Rhodococcus sp strain showed that catabolic genes may have evolved from a single origin with widespread global distribution, with possible potential in atrazine bioremediation.

Seroprevalence of and Risk Factors for Cytomegalovirus among HIV-Infected Patients at University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Nigeria

Although the distribution of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection has a wide regional variation, it is more common in Africa and Asia with high prevalence approaching 100% in some communities. CMV is a frequent opportunistic infection and major cause of morbidity and mortality among HIV patients with severe immunosuppression. It can be contracted from body fluid, including saliva, urine, blood, cervical secretions, and semen. CMV seropositivity is considered the best laboratory measure of past infection. We determined the prevalence of CMV and the risk factors associated with its acquisition in a population of HIV positive patients. Anti-CMV IgG seroprevalence was 100% among HIV infected subjects and 98.6% among controls. Having multiple sexual partners and traditional practices were identified as risk factors associated with risk of contracting CMV infection.

A pressure dependent Schrodinger equation is used to find the conditions that lead to superconductivity. When no pressure is exerted, the superconductor resistance vanishes beyond a critical temperature related to the repulsive force potential of the electron gass, where one assuming the electron total energy to be thermal, where applying mechanical pressure destroys Sc when it exceeds a certain critical value. However when the electron total energy is an assumed to be that of the free electron model and that the pressure is thermal and mechanical, the situation is different. The quantum expression for resistance shows that the increase of mechanical pressure increases the critical temperature. Such phenomenon is observed in high temperature cupper group.
