Numerical modeling of time-dependent deformation and induced stresses in concrete pipes constructed in Queenston shale using micro-tunneling technique

Effects of time-dependent deformation（TDD） on a tunnel constructed using the micro-tunneling technique in Queenston shale（QS） are investigated employing the finite element method. The TDD and strength parameters of the QS were measured from tests conducted on QS specimens soaked in water and lubricant fluids（LFs） used in micro-tunneling such as bentonite and polymer solutions. The numerical model was verified using the results of TDD tests performed on QS samples, field measurements of some documented projects, and the closed-form solutions to circular tunnels in swelling rock. The verified model was then employed to conduct a parametric study considering important micro-tunneling design parameters, such as depth and diameter of the tunnel, in situ stress ratio（K;）, and the time lapse prior to replacing LFs with permanent cement grout around the tunnel. It was revealed that the time lapse plays a vital role in controlling deformations and associated stresses developed in the tunnel *** critical case of a pipe or tunnel in which the maximum tensile stress develops at its springline occurs when it is constructed at shallow depths in the QS layer. The results of the parametric study were used to suggest recommendations for the construction of tunnels in QS employing micro-tunneling.

The multistage triaxial compression test was mainly utilized in this research to investigate the degradation in the strength of swelling shale under different wetting *** samples were tested in four different conditions:(1)under their natural moisture content denoted as intact,and after soaking in,(2)water,(3)polymer solution,and(4)bentonite solution,*** experimental results showed that a considerable decrease in the shale’s strength was noted after soaking in water and the lubricant fluids(LFs).The polymer solution caused the least decrease in the strength compared to other *** envelopes of the tested shale were constructed for intact and soaked *** envelopes showed fair agreement between the single stage and the multistage triaxial compression test results,indicating suitability of the multistage triaxial compression test for the tested swelling shale.

To examine and investigate the impact of nanofluid on heat exchanger performance,including the total heat transfer,the effect of friction factor,the average Nusselt number,and the thermal efficiency,the output heat transfers of a shell and tube heat exchanger using ZnO nanoparticles suspended in water has been conducted *** governing equations were solved using finite volume techniques and CFD simulations with ANSYS/FLUENT Solver *** nanoparticles volume fractions adopted are 0.2%and 0.35%that used in numerical computations under 200 to 1400 Reynolds numbers *** increasing of temperature is approximately 13%from the bottom to the top of heat exchanger,while the maximum enhancement of Nusselt number is about 10%,19%for volume fractions 0.2%and 0.35%*** elevated values of the friction factor at the volumetric ratios of 0.2%and 0.35%are 0.25%and 0.47%*** findings demonstrate that the performance efficiency of shell and tube heat exchanger is enhanced due to the increase in Nusselt number.

With the rapid growth of internet usage,a new situation has been created that enables practicing *** has increased over the past decade,and it has the same adverse effects as face-to-face bullying,like anger,sadness,anxiety,and *** the anonymity people get on the internet,they tend to bemore aggressive and express their emotions freely without considering the effects,which can be a reason for the increase in cyberbullying and it is the main motive behind the current *** study presents a thorough background of cyberbullying and the techniques used to collect,preprocess,and analyze the ***,a comprehensive review of the literature has been conducted to figure out research gaps and effective techniques and practices in cyberbullying detection in various languages,and it was deduced that there is significant room for improvement in the Arabic *** a result,the current study focuses on the investigation of shortlisted machine learning algorithms in natural language processing(NLP)for the classification of Arabic datasets duly collected from Twitter(also known as X).In this regard,support vector machine(SVM),Naive Bayes(NB),Random Forest(RF),Logistic regression(LR),Bootstrap aggregating(Bagging),Gradient Boosting(GBoost),Light Gradient Boosting Machine(LightGBM),Adaptive Boosting(AdaBoost),and eXtreme Gradient Boosting(XGBoost)were shortlisted and investigated due to their effectiveness in the similar ***,the scheme was evaluated by well-known performance measures like accuracy,precision,Recall,and ***,XGBoost exhibited the best performance with 89.95%accuracy,which is promising compared to the state-of-the-art.

Recent economic growth and development have considerably raised energy consumption over the *** load prediction approaches become essential for effective planning,decision-making,and contract evaluation of the power *** order to achieve effective forecasting outcomes with minimumcomputation time,this study develops an improved whale optimization with deep learning enabled load prediction(IWO-DLELP)scheme for energy storage systems(ESS)in smart grid *** major intention of the IWO-DLELP technique is to effectually forecast the electric load in SG environment for designing proficient *** proposed IWO-DLELP model initially undergoes pre-processing in two stages namely min-max normalization and feature ***,partition clustering approach is applied for the decomposition of data into distinct clusters with respect to distance and objective ***,IWO with bidirectional gated recurrent unit(BiGRU)model is applied for the prediction of load and the hyperparameters are tuned by the use of IWO *** experiment analysis reported the enhanced results of the IWO-DLELP model over the recent methods interms of distinct evaluation measures.

A numerical study has been carried out to investigate the effect of aspect ratio on heat transfer by natural convection of nanofluid taking Cu nano particles and the water as based fluid. The flow is laminar, steady state, axisymmetric two-dimensional in a vertical cylindrical channel filled with porous media. Heat is generated uniformly along the center of the channel with its vertical surface remain with cooled constant wall temperature and insulated horizontal top and bottom surfaces. The governing equations which used are continuity, momentum and energy equations using Darcy law and Boussinesq＇s approximation which are transformed to dimensionless equations. The finite difference approach is used to obtain all the computational results using the MATLAB-7 program. The parameters affected on the system are Rayleigh number ranging within （10≤ Ra ≤ 103）, aspect ratio （1 ≤ As 〈 5） and the volume fraction （0 ≤0 〈 0.2）. The results obtained are presented graphically in the form of streamline and isotherm contour plots and the results show that as ~ increase from 0.01 to 0.2 the value of the mean Nusselt number increase 50.4% for Ra = 1,000.

As the amount of medical images transmitted over networks and kept on online servers continues to rise,the need to protect those images digitally is becoming increasingly ***,due to the massive amounts of multimedia and medical pictures being exchanged,low computational complexity techniques have been *** commonly used algorithms offer very little security and require a great deal of communication,all of which add to the high processing costs associated with using ***,a deep learning classifier is used to classify records according to the degree of concealment they *** images that aren’t needed can be saved by using this method,which cuts down on security *** is one of the most effective methods for protecting medical images after this *** and dispersion are two fundamental encryption processes.A new encryption algorithm for very sensitive data is developed in this *** splitting with image blocks is nowdeveloped by using Zigzag patterns,rotation of the image blocks,and random permutation for scrambling the *** that,this research suggests a Region of Interest(ROI)technique based on selective picture *** the first step,we use an active contour picture segmentation to separate the ROI from the Region of Background(ROB).Permutation and diffusion are then carried out using a Hilbert curve and a Skew Tent *** all of the blocks have been encrypted,they are combined to create encrypted *** investigational analysis is carried out to test the competence of the projected ideal with existing techniques.

Comparison between Two Vertical Enclosures Filled With Porous Media under the Effect of Radiation and Magnetohydrodynamics

A numerical study has been carried out to investigate the temperature distribution and the natural convection heat transfer in axisymmetric two-dimensional vertical saturated porous cylinder with steady state laminar flow. A comparison between two situations is done under the effect of MHD （magnetohydrodynamics） and radiation. In the two situations, the vertical walls of the cylinder are cooled with constant wall temperature and a constant heat generation subjected along the centerline of the cylinder. The first case for cylinder with insulated upper surface and cooled bottom surface while the second case for cylinder with cooled upper surface and insulated bottom surface. The governing equations used are continuity, momentum and energy equations which are transformed to dimensionless equations. The finite difference approach is used to obtain all the computational results using the MATLAB-7 programming. The parameters affected the system are Rayleigh number ranging within （102≤ Ra ≤104）, radiation parameter （0≤ Rd ≤ 2） and magnetohydrodynamics MHD （Mn）（0 ≤ Mn≤ 2）.The results show that the temperature of Case 1 is more than that in Case 2 at constant Ra, Mn and Rd while the value of the stream in Case 2 is greater than that in Case 1. Nu increase with the increase of Rd and increasing Mn caused the temperature to increase and the streamline dropped while Nu decreased. A correlation has been set up to give the average Nusselt number variation with Ra, Rd and Mn for which the results are found to be in good agreement with previously published researches.

A Compilation of the Geo-Mechanical Properties of Rocks in Southern Ontario and the Neighbouring Regions

The available measurements of the geo-mechanical properties of rocks in Southern Ontario and the neighbouring regions (New York, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota) are summarized and presented. These measurements were compiled from available published data in the relevant literature and also from data that were collected from major underground projects in these regions. The compiled data are presented in three categories: measured in-situ stresses in different rock formations;calculated strength, stiffness and deformation including time-dependent deformation properties;and the measured dynamic properties of intact rock specimens from different rock formations in Southern Ontario and the neighbouring regions. The data presented in this paper can be used as a resource for preliminary evaluation of the geomechanical properties of the rocks in these regions. The presented geo-mechanical properties were generally obtained from in-situ measurements and from laboratory tests that were conducted on intact rock specimens from freshly excavated rock samples. Moreover, the time-dependent deformation properties of rocks in these regions were obtained from laboratory tests that were performed on intact rock specimens submerged in water. However, the influence of drilling fluids such as bentonite slurry and synthetic polymers solution, on the geo-mechanical properties of rocks is not evident and needs to be investigated.
