Hazardous effects of fried potato chips on the development of retina in albino rats

Objective:To evaluate the hazardous effects of fried potato chips upon the retina of two developmental stages of the albino rats aged 7 and 14 days from ***:Pregnant rats were arranged into two groups:control pregnant rats and consequently their delivered newborns until reaching 7 and 14 days old from parturition and fried potato chips group in which pregnant rats at the 6th day of gestation maintained on diet formed of fried potato chips supplied from the market mixed with standard diet at a concentration of 50%per each till 7 and 14 *** fold integrated approaches were adopted,namely,histological,ultrastructural and proteomic ***:Histological examination of the retina of the experimental offsprings revealed many histopathological changes,including massive degeneration,vacuolization and cell loss in the ganglion cell layer,as well as general reduction in retinal *** the ultrastructural level,the retina of experimental offsprings exhibited number of deformities,including ill differentiated and degenerated nuclear layer,malformed and vacuolated pigment epithelium with vesiculated and fragmented rough endoplasmic reticulum,degenerated outer segment of photoreceptors,as well as swollen choriocapillaris and loss of neuronal *** analysis of retina of the two experimental developmental stages showed variations in the expressed proteins as a result of intoxication which illustrated the adverse toxic effects of fried potato chips upon the ***:It can be concluded that the effect of fried potato chips on the development of retina in rats may be due to the presence of acrylamide or its metabolite.

Owing to technological developments,Medical image analysis has received considerable attention in the rapid detection and classification of *** brain is an essential organ in *** tumors cause loss of memory,vision,and *** 2020,approximately 18,020 deaths occurred due to brain *** cases can be minimized if a brain tumor is diagnosed at a very early *** vision researchers have introduced several techniques for brain tumor detection and ***,owing to many factors,this is still a challenging *** challenges relate to the tumor size,the shape of a tumor,location of the tumor,selection of important features,among *** this study,we proposed a framework for multimodal brain tumor classification using an ensemble of optimal deep learning *** the proposed framework,initially,a database is normalized in the form of high-grade glioma(HGG)and low-grade glioma(LGG)patients and then two pre-trained deep learning models(ResNet50 and Densenet201)are *** deep learning models were modified and trained using transfer ***,the enhanced ant colony optimization algorithm is proposed for best feature selection from both deep *** selected features are fused using a serial-based approach and classified using a cubic support vector *** experimental process was conducted on the BraTs2019 dataset and achieved accuracies of 87.8%and 84.6%for HGG and LGG,*** comparison is performed using several classification methods,and it shows the significance of our proposed technique.

Incidental findings of Cysticercus tenuicollis metacestodes in five oryx species

Objective:To determine the prevalence of Cysticercus tenuicollis(***) metacestodes in five oryx species kept in A1 Ain Zoo animal ***:This study was based on a retrospective analysis of post-mortem records covering a four year period(July 2010 to July 2014).Results:A total of 213 individual animals were recorded dead during the four year period(July 2010 to July 2014).Out of this,12(5.6%) were recorded with *** females(8) than males(4) were recorded to have ***,although this was not statistically significant(P= 0.3737).Conclusions:This study shows that,Arabian oryx,beisa oryx,fringe-eared oryx,gemsbok and scimitar-horned oryx are susceptible to *** on the epidemiology and the life cycle of this parasite,it is possible that these captive animals ingested the parasite through contaminated feed which could have happened in the pasture land or stray dogs and wild canidae(***) visited the zoo contaminating the oryx *** dogs and wild canidae should be prevented from visiting pasture land and a captive animal facility.

Background:In medical image analysis,the diagnosis of skin lesions remains a challenging *** lesion is a common type of skin cancer that exists *** is one of the latest technologies used for the diagnosis of skin ***:Many computerized methods have been introduced in the literature to classify skin ***,challenges remain such as imbalanced datasets,low contrast lesions,and the extraction of irrelevant or redundant *** Work:In this study,a new technique is proposed based on the conventional and deep learning *** proposed framework consists of two major tasks:lesion segmentation and *** the lesion segmentation task,contrast is initially improved by the fusion of two filtering techniques and then performed a color transformation to color lesion area color ***,the best channel is selected and the lesion map is computed,which is further converted into a binary form using a thresholding *** the lesion classification task,two pre-trained CNN models were modified and trained using transfer *** features were extracted from both models and fused using canonical correlation *** the fusion process,a few redundant features were also added,lowering classification accuracy.A new technique called maximum entropy score-based selection(MESbS)is proposed as a solution to this *** features selected through this approach are fed into a cubic support vector machine(C-SVM)for the final ***:The experimental process was conducted on two datasets:ISIC 2017 and *** ISIC 2017 dataset was used for the lesion segmentation task,whereas the HAM10000 dataset was used for the classification *** achieved accuracy for both datasets was 95.6% and 96.7%, respectively, which was higher thanthe existing techniques.

Design and Synthesis of Some New Oxadiazole Derivatives as Anticancer Agents

In this work, some new oxadiazole derivatives have been prepared, by reacting phenyl hydrazine and acetic anhydride together, which furnished 2,4-dimethyl-4-phenyloxadiazole. This product was reacted with a series of aromatic aldehydes, to obtain a series of oxadiazole derivatives. These derivatives were characterized by TLC, melting points, infrared red, proton nuclear magnetic resonance, carbon thirteen nuclear magnetic resonance and mass spectroscopy. Finally, these synthetized derivatives were tested for antiproliferative activity by two different cell lines. MCF-7 (Breast cancer cell line) and HepG2 (Liver cancer cell line) were used to assess the antiproliferative activity of the prepared compounds.

Review of tumoral calcinosis: A rare clinico-pathological entity

Tumoral calcinosis(TC) has long been a controversial clinico-pathological entity. Its pathogenesis and genetic background have been gradually unravelled since its first description in 1943. According to the presence or absence of an underlying calcifying disease process, TC has been divided into primary and secondary varieties. Two subtypes of the primary variety exist; a hyperphosphatemic type with familial basis represented by mutations in Gal NAc transferase 3 gene(GALNT3), KLOTHO or Fibroblast growth factor 23(FGF23) genes, and a normo-phosphatemic type with growing evidence of underlying familial base represented by mutation in SAMD9 gene. The secondary variety is mainly associated with chronic renal failure and the resulting secondary or tertiary hyperparathyroidism. Diagnosis of TC relies on typical radiographic features(on plain radiographs and computed tomography) and the biochemical profile. Magnetic resonance imaging can be done in difficult cases, and scintigraphy reflects the disease activity. Treatment is mainly surgical for the primary variety; however, a stage-oriented conservative approach using phosphate binders, phosphate restricted dietsand acetazolamide should be considered before the surgical approach is pursued due to the high rate of recurrences and complications after surgical intervention. Medical treatment is the mainstay for treatment of the secondary variety, with failure warranting subtotal or total parathyroidectomy. Surgical intervention in these patients should be kept as a last resort.

Adsorption of U(Ⅵ) from acid solution on a low-cost sorbent:equilibrium, kinetic, and thermodynamic assessments

In this paper,waste clay was cured with ethyl acetate to obtain treated clay(TC),which was modified with gallic acid to obtain a low-cost sorbent that was characterized by EDX,SEM,and FTIR ***(Ⅵ)adsorption was achieved using the batch adsorption method on the TC and gallic acid-modified treated clay(GMTC).The maximum uptakes of U(Ⅵ)on TC and GMTC were 37.2 and 193.0 mg/g,*** U(Ⅵ)adsorption kinetics on the TC and GMTC sorbents were well-fitted by the pseudo-second-order mechanism,and the adsorption equilibrium followed the Langmuir *** optimum parameters were applied to El Sela leach solution for uranium recovery.

Design and Synthesis of New Compounds Derived from Phenyl Hydrazine and Different Aldehydes as Anticancer Agents

In this work we synthesized new derivatives from Phenyl Hydrazine and series of different Aldehydes (derivatives of benzylidenes). The synthesized compounds contain different aromatic Aldehydes which attached by Benzene ring via Hydrazine moiety in glacial acetic acid. These derivatives were characterized by TLC, melting points, Infrared Red, Proton Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Carbon Thirteen Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and Mass Spectroscopy. Finally, these synthesized derivatives were tested for antiproliferative activity against multiple normal and cancerous cell lines, HepG2 (Liver cancer) and MCF-7 (Breast cancer) cell lines were used for cytotoxic assay.

Management of 634 Consecutive Patients with Chronic Pilonidal Sinus: A Nine-Year Experience of a Single Institute

Objectives: Different surgical techniques, with variable morbidity and recurrence rates, have been advocated for the management of chronic pilonidal sinus (PNS). This study was conducted to report the outcome of surgical treatment of 634 cases of chronic PNS at a single institute between January 2001 and January 2010. Methods: Karydakis flap was performed in 244 patients (38.5%, Group 1). Excision and midline closure was performed in 371 patients (58.5%, Group 2), while the open method was used in 19 (3.0%). Data regarding patient and sinus characteristics, operative de-tails, postoperative course, complications and recurrence were recorded. Mean follow-up was 73.5 months. Results: 571 patients were male (90.1%) and 63 were female (9.9%). Their ages ranged between 16 - 44 years (mean 25.7 years). The mean body mass index was 31.2 (range 23.6 - 41.9), and 71.5% (453/634) were hirsute. Chronic PNS was the first presentation (primary) in 504 patients (79.5%) and recurrent in 130 (20.5%).Overall complication rate was 16.1% (102/ 634) and overall recurrence rate was 8.4% (53/634). Comparing both groups showed that they were similar regarding demographic characteristics, clinical presentation, hospital stay, healing time and time off work. Operative time was insignificantly longer with Karydakis technique (mean 43.2 versus 39.1 minutes, respectively). Complications were sig-nificantly more in patients with midline closure (21%, 78/371) as compared with Karydakis procedure (9%, 22/244) (P = 0.0001). Likewise, there was a significantly (P = 0.0001) higher rate of recurrence with midline closure (12.1%, 45/371) as opposed to Karydakis technique (2.5%, 6/244). Conclusions: 1) PNS affects mainly young male adults who are usually, obese and hirsute, 2) Karydakis technique for the management of chronic PNS, whether primary or recurrent, is a non-lengthy, efficient procedure that has less overall complications and a lower recurrence rate than conventional excision and midline clo

Effect of radical surgery combined with pre- or postoperative radiotherapy in treatment of resectable rectal cancer

Objective： This study was done to compare between the effect of preoperative radiotherapy and postoperative radiotherapy in treatment of resectable rectal carcinoma. The primary endpoints are local recurrence rate, overall survival （OS） and disease free survival （DFS）. The secondary endpoints are to evaluate down-staging, treatment toxicity, and ability to do sphincter preservation, aiming at choosing the optimal treatment modality. Methods： This study included 100 patients with resectable rectal carcinoma who presented to Surgical Gastro Entrology Center and Clinical Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Department, Mansoura University during the period between January 2007 and September 2009. The included patients were randomized in two groups; group h 50 patients received preoperative radiotherapy and group Ih 50 patients received post- operative radiotherapy. Concurrent 5-fluorouracil-based chemotherapy was given to all patients. Two major types of surgery were done： abdomino-perineal resection with a permanent colostomy and low anterior resection with colorectal or coloanal anastomosis. Results： Preoperative radiotherapy resulted in pathologic complete response in 3 patients. T down-staging occurred in 18 out of 50 patients （36%） with statistically significant difference （P = 0.008）. N down-staging occurred in 10 out of 24 patients. Sphincter preservation was more in group I. Delayed wound healing was the most common postoperative complication in group I with no significant difference. After a median follow up of 18 months, local recurrence rate and distant metastasis were higher in group I1. The 2-year disease free survival was 72% and 60% in group I and II respectively with no statistically significant difference between both groups. Conclusion： This study concluded that preoperative radiotherapy is better than postoperative radiotherapy as regard local control, sphincter preservation with higher disease free survival and overall survival. No difference in treatment
