Innovative configuration of vertical slot fishway to enhance fish swimming conditions

A vertical slot fishway(VSF)is among the most effective and commonly used fishway structures to enable fish to pass through artificial barriers such as dams and weirs in the ***,such structures need further improvements in providing better swimming conditions for fish inside the pool and enhancing attraction at the ***,the main objective of this study was to investigate the influence of slope and whether integrating some cylinder structures inside the fishway could enhance further attraction and provide better swimming conditions for *** study consists of several numerical simulations,first considering the fishway without cylinder elements while testing three different slopes under two different ***,the same numerical simulations were conducted,considering cylinder elements of different diameters and arrangements inside the *** numerical model was validated by comparing computed velocities with those measured experimentally from the *** results show that the maximum velocity and turbulent kinetic energy(TKE)in the main jet increase as the discharge increases on the same *** flow velocity and TKE decrease in the areas inside the pool and between the two *** cylinder elements inside the fishway reduces the principal flow’s maximum ***,inside the pool,low-velocity regions were expanding.A comparison between the design with a cylinder and the simple VSF indicates that the presence of a cylinder reduced the maximum velocities for the smallest and highest slopes by 6.21%and 9.86%on average,***,in terms of TKE,cylinders inside the fishway could provide better performance than simple VSF,mainly for low-flow ***,this study’s solution-oriented findings provide insights that could help design cost-effective fishways by improving particularly fish attraction to the fishway.

This paper presents the probabilistic analysis of landslides in spatially variable soil deposits, modeled by a stochastic framework which integrates the random field theory with generalized interpolation material point method(GIMP). Random fields are simulated using Cholesky matrix decomposition(CMD) method and Latin hypercube sampling(LHS) method, which represent material properties discretized into sets of random soil shear strength variables with statistical properties. The approach is applied to landslides in clayey deposits under undrained conditions with random fields of undrained shear strength parameters, in order to quantify the uncertainties of post-failure behavior at different scales of fluctuation(SOF) and coefficients of variation(COV). Results show that the employed approach can reliably simulate the whole landslide process and assess the uncertainties of runout motions. It is demonstrated that the natural heterogeneity of shear strength in landslides notably influences their post-failure behavior. Compared with a homogeneous landslide model which yields conservative results and underestimation of the risks, consideration of heterogeneity shows larger landslide influence zones. With SOF values increasing, the variances of influence zones also increase, and with higher values of COV, the mean values of the influence zone also increase, resulting in higher uncertainties of post-failure behavior.

Myofibrillar myopathies(MFMs)are rare genetic and slowly progressive neuromuscular *** pathogenic mutations have been reported in MFM-related genes including DES,CRYAB,MYOT,LDB3 or ZASP,FLNC,BAG3,FHL1 and *** MFMs is commonly inherited in an autosomal dominant manner,the inheritance pattern and novel mutated genes are not thoroughly elucidated in some ***,we report discovery of a novel nonsense mutation in a 29-year-old Iranian male patient with motor disorders and deformity in his lower *** parents are second *** Motor Sensory Neuropathy as initial genetic diagnosis was ruled *** exome sequencing using NGS on Illumina Hi-Seq4000 platform was performed to identify the disease and possible mutated gene(s).Our data analysis identified a homozygous nonsense unreported c.C415T(p.R139X)variant on kyphoscoliosis peptidase(KY)gene(NM_178554:exon4).Sanger sequencing of this mutation has been performed for his other related family *** and segregation analysis was confirmed the NGS results and autosomal recessive inheritance pattern of the disease.

ABSTRACT In this work we conducted classical molecular dynamics(MD)simulation to investigate the mechanical characteristics and failure mechanism of hexagonal boron-nitride(h-BN)*** and defective structure of h-BN nanosheets were considered under the uniaxial tensile loadings at various *** defective structure contains three types of the most common initial defects in engineering materials that are known as cracks,notches(with various length/size),and point vacancy defects(with a wide range of concentration).MD simulation results demonstrate a high load-bearing capacity of extremely defective(amorphized)h-BN *** results also reveal that the tensile strength decline by increasing the defect content and temperature as *** MD results provide a comprehensive and useful vision concerning the mechanical properties ofh-BN nanosheets with/without defects,which is very critical for the designing of nanodevices exploiting the exceptional physics of h-BN.

Coagulase is considered as a major determinant factor for the identification of Staphylococcus aureus *** 3-end coding region of the coagulase(coa)gene contains a series of 81-bp tandem repeats,which differ in the number and location of enzymatic restriction sites among different *** PCR-RFLP has been used widely to type *** isolates in epidemiological *** current study was conducted to investigate the coagulase gene polymorphisms in *** isolated from various food samples using an in house PCR-RFLP method.A total of 100 strains of *** were isolated from food *** were typed by PCR-RFLP analysis using NdeI restriction digestion of the coagulase gene PCR *** showed that amplification of coagulase genes from *** produced different PCR *** isolates were grouped into 18 genotypes using RFLP analysis results of the *** this study,the *** isolates have been shown to include more than one coagulase genotype,but only had a few coa genotypes predominated.
