Highly efficient vanadium redox flow batteries enabled by a trilayer polybenzimidazole membrane assembly

A novel polybenzimidazole (PBI)-based trilayer membrane assembly is developed for application in vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB). The membrane comprises a 1 mu m thin cross-linked poly[2,2'-(p-oxydiphenylene)-5,5'-bibenzimidazole] (OPBI) sandwiched between two 20 mu m thick porous OPBI membranes (p-OPBI) without further lamination steps. The trilayer membrane demonstrates exceptional properties, such as high conductivity and low area-specific resistance (ASR) of 51 mS cm(-1) and 81 m Omega cm(2), respectively. Contact with vanadium electrolyte increases the ASR of trilayer membrane only to 158 m Omega cm(2), while that of Nafion is 193 m Omega cm(2). VO2+ permeability is 2.73 x 10(-9) cm(2) min(-1), about 150 times lower than that of Nafion NR212. In addition, the membrane has high mechanical strength and high chemical stability against VO2+. In VRFB, the combination of low resistance and low vanadium permeability results in excellent performance, revealing high Coulombic efficiency (>99%), high energy efficiency (EE; 90.8% at current density of 80 mA cm(-2)), and long-term durability. The EE is one of the best reported to date.

Prevalence of malaria infection in Sarbaz,Sistan and Bluchistan province

Objective:To survey malaria prevalence in Sarbaz from April 2009 to October ***: Epidemiological data of 1 464 confirmed malarial patients were analyzed according to demographic status,sex,age,nationality,isolated species and residence ***:The majority of patients were male 930(64.8%) but 514(35.2%) were female.82.5%of patients were Iranian,14%Pakistani immigrants,and 3.5%Afghan *** collected showed that 90% of isolated species were Plasmodium vivax,7.8%Plasmodium falciparum,and 2.2%Plasmodium malariae and mixed ***:Therefore,it is crystal clear that refugees should be prohibited by government and controlled by experts in health centers in order to campaign effectively with this life threating disease.

Diabetes mellitus can damage the eyes,kidneys,nerves and *** and macrovascular disorders are the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in diabetic *** can increase the indicators of lipid peroxidation and oxidative stress in which free radicals have the main role in the pathogenesis of these ***,antioxidants which combat oxidative stress should be able to prevent and repair free radicals induced *** free radicals contribute to kidney damage,atherosclerosis,diabetes,heart disease,nephrotoxicity and hepatotoxicity; however,clinical trials do not uniquely confirm a substantial impact on diabetic *** seems that antioxidants in vegetables,fruits and grains help preventing diabetes complications; however,there is little evidence that taking single antioxidants such as vitamin E or vitamin C protect these *** findings about combination antioxidants are also complicated and not entirely *** this review paper we tried to present the role of oxidative stress on microvascular complications of type2 diabetes *** objective of this paper is to review the new findings about the role of various antioxidants on prevention and treatment of diabetes mellitus as well as its complications including retinopathy,nephropathy and neuropathy.

This study aimed to determine the sustainability criteria of the beekeeping industry in Iran,which was performed using three-stage classical Delphi *** participants were 32 experts in beekeeping industry who were purposefully selected using the snowball sampling *** criteria identified,after three Delphi stages,consisted of 70 items,which were categorized into 13 general criteria and into four economic,environmental,social,and institutional *** general criteria were presented in the form of a conceptual model,including:farmers’environmental behavior quality,beekeepers'environmental behavior quality,the quality of marketing and sales of beekeeping productions,productivity and performance improvement,amount of monetization from pollinations'right,the amount of monetization of byproducts and value added,employment rate and job stability,the level of social development of stakeholders,the quality of the role-playing of non-governmental stakeholders,the quality of extension and education new sciences and technologies to stakeholders,comprehensiveness of laws and programs,quality of role-playing of stakeholder non-governmental organizations,and the quality of the roleplaying of governmental institutions *** them,a comprehensive perception of the necessary criteria for the sustainability of Iran's beekeeping industry can be obtained and a comprehensive program can be designed for its implementation.

A case of malaria infection in a 42-year-old woman in rural area of Mahmodabad,Mazandaran Province,North Iran was reported and discussed *** was complaining about recurrent fevers,sweating,headache and myalgia in *** her first admission to hospital due lo misdiagnose she did not receive proper treatment and the patient suffered from clinical manifestations *** in the second admission to another hospital,after a precise examination on her thick and thin blood smear the agent of disease was recognized appropriately as Plasmodium vivax and treated accordingly.

Cattle toxoplasmosis in Iran:a systematic review and meta-analysis

Objective:To analyze and review the overall seroprevalence rate of Toxoplasma gondii(***) infection in cattle from ***:In the current study,data collection(published and unpublished papers,abstracts of national scientific congresses and dissertations) using particular terms was carried out systematically on the following electronic databases like PubMed,Google Scholar,Ebsco,Science Direct,Scopus,Magiran,Irandoc,IranMedex and SID(Scientific Information Database).Results:A total of 22 studies since 1983 to 2012 reporting the seroprevalence of toxoplasmosis in cattle from different regions of Iran met our eligibility *** pooled proportion of toxoplasmosis,using random effect model,among cattle in Iran from over the 30-year period was estimated 18.1%(95%CI:9.9%to 28.2%).Conclusions:This study firstly establishes a crude seroprevalence rate of Toxoplasma infection in cattle which can lead us to understand the condition of eattle toxoplasmosis,which have to take into accounted fur an appropriate and effective prevention and ***,it compares and discusses elaborately the role of risk factors including sex,age and breed in the epidemiology of the ***,it determines gaps and drawbacks in the prior studies which are greatly useful to design more accurate investigations in the future.

Objective:To survey the prevalence of cattle ticks in Nur County and prepare a list of tick fauna in this ***:This investigation was carried out on 150 head of cattle ticks of rural areas of Nur city which is located in Mazandaran province during spring and summer seasons of *** collected ticks were identified using light microscope and available systematic ***:A total number of 1563 ticks were isolated from examined cattle and their genus and numbers including:lxodes ricinus 51%(111 male and 691 female)and Boophilus annulatus 49%(83male and 678 female),***:Results of the current investigation indicate the presence of two species of acarine ectoparasites which have potential health risk lxodes ricinus and Boophilus *** studies are required to increase our data concerning ticks and other ectopreasites of ruminants in other areas of Mazandaran province and should be noted to their ability in transmission of infectious agents.

Sensing the heavy water concentration in an H_(2)O-D_(2)O mixture by solid-solid phononic crystals

A new method based on phononic crystals is presented to detect the concentration of heavy water(D_(2)O)in an H_(2)O-D_(2)O *** have been obtained and analyzed in the concentration range of 0%-10%and 90%-100%D_(2)O.A proposed structure of tungsten scatterers in an aluminum host is *** order to detect the target material,a cavity region is considered as a sound wave resonator in which the target material with different concentrations of D_(2)O is *** changing the concentration of D_(2)O in the H_(2)O-D_(2)O mixture,the resonance frequency undergoes a frequency *** 1%change in D_(2)O concentration in the H_(2)O-D_(2)O mixture causes a frequency change of about 120 *** finite element method is used as the numerical method to calculate and analyze the natural frequencies and transmission spectra of the proposed *** performance evaluation index shows a high Q factor up to 1475758 and a high sensitivity up to 13075,which are acceptable values for sensing *** other figures of merit related to the detection performance also indicate high-quality performance of the designed sensor.
