Innovative configuration of vertical slot fishway to enhance fish swimming conditions

A vertical slot fishway(VSF)is among the most effective and commonly used fishway structures to enable fish to pass through artificial barriers such as dams and weirs in the ***,such structures need further improvements in providing better swimming conditions for fish inside the pool and enhancing attraction at the ***,the main objective of this study was to investigate the influence of slope and whether integrating some cylinder structures inside the fishway could enhance further attraction and provide better swimming conditions for *** study consists of several numerical simulations,first considering the fishway without cylinder elements while testing three different slopes under two different ***,the same numerical simulations were conducted,considering cylinder elements of different diameters and arrangements inside the *** numerical model was validated by comparing computed velocities with those measured experimentally from the *** results show that the maximum velocity and turbulent kinetic energy(TKE)in the main jet increase as the discharge increases on the same *** flow velocity and TKE decrease in the areas inside the pool and between the two *** cylinder elements inside the fishway reduces the principal flow’s maximum ***,inside the pool,low-velocity regions were expanding.A comparison between the design with a cylinder and the simple VSF indicates that the presence of a cylinder reduced the maximum velocities for the smallest and highest slopes by 6.21%and 9.86%on average,***,in terms of TKE,cylinders inside the fishway could provide better performance than simple VSF,mainly for low-flow ***,this study’s solution-oriented findings provide insights that could help design cost-effective fishways by improving particularly fish attraction to the fishway.

Synthesis and Characterization of Indium Niobium Oxide Thin Films via Sol—Gel Spin Coating Method

In the present study, niobium-doped indium oxide thin films were prepared by sol-gel spin coating technique. The effects of different Nb-doping contents on structural, morphological, optical, and electrical properties of the films were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction （XRD）, field emission scanning electron microscopy （FESEM）, atomic force microscopy （AFM）, UV-Vis spectroscopy, and four point probe methods. XRD analysis confirmed the formation of cubic bixbyite structure of In203 with a small shift in major peak position toward lower angles with addition of Nb. FESEM micrographs show that grain size decreased with increasing the Nb-doping content. Optical and electrical studies revealed that optimum opto-electronic properties, including minimum electrical resistivity of 119.4 × 10^-3 Ω cm and an average optical transmittance of 85% in the visible region with a band gap of 3.37 eV were achieved for the films doped with Nb-doping content of 3 at.%. AFM studies show that addition of Nb at optimum content leads to the formation of compact films with smooth surface and less average roughness compared with the prepared ln2O3 films.

An Adaptive Infeasible Interior-Point Algorithm for Linear Complementarity Problems

Interior-Point Methods(IPMs)not only are the most effective methods in practice but also have polynomial-time *** researchers have proposed IPMs for Linear Optimization(LO)and achieved plentiful *** many cases these methods were extendable for LO to Linear Complementarity Problems(LCPs)*** this paper,motivated by the complexity results for linear optimization based on the study of *** et al.(Mansouri and Zangiabadi in ***.62(2):285–297,2013),we extend their idea for LO to *** proposed algorithm requires two types of full-Newton steps are called,feasibility steps and(ordinary)centering steps,*** each iteration both feasibility and optimality are reduced exactly at the same *** each iteration of the algorithm we use the largest possible barrier parameter valueθwhich lies between the two values 117n and 113n,this makes the algorithm faster convergent for problems having a strictly complementarity solution.

Comprehensive modeling of frictional pressure drop during carbon dioxide two-phase flow inside channels using intelligent and conventional methods

Environmentally friendly nature of CO_(2),associated with its safety and high efficiency,has made it a widely used working fluid in heat *** CO_(2)has strange thermophysical features,specific models are required to estimate its two-phase characteristics,particularly frictional pressure drop(FPD).Herein,a widespread dataset,comprising 1195 experimental samples for two-phase FPD of CO_(2)was adopted from 10 sources to fulfill this *** literature correlations failed to provide satisfactory precisions and exhibited the average absolute relative errors(AAREs)between 29.29% and 67.69% from the analyzed *** inspiring the theoretical method of Lockhart and Martinelli,three intelligent FPD models were presented,among which the Gaussian process regression approach surpassed the others with AARE and R^(2)values of 5.48% and 98.80%,respectively in the test stage.A novel simple correlation was also derived based on the least square fitting method,which yielded opportune predictions with AARE of 19.76% for all *** truthfulness of the newly proposed models was assessed through a variety of statistical and visual analyses,and the results affirmed their high reliability over a broad range of conditions,channel sizes and flow ***,the novel models performed favorably in describing the physical attitudes corresponding to two-phase FPD of CO_(2).Eventually,the importance of operating factors in controlling the FPD was discussed through a sensitivity analysis.

Construction of a PVC based 15-crown-5 electrochemical sensor for Ag(Ⅰ) cation

The macrocyclic ligand,15-crown-5,was used as an ionophore for fabrication of a polyvinyl chloride（PVC） based membrane sensor for Ag（Ⅰ） *** construction of the Ag（Ⅰ） cation selective electrode the best response characteristics were obtained using the composition： 15-crown-5/PVC/o-nitrophenyloctylether（NPOE）/sodium tetraphenyl borate（NaTPB） in the percentage ratio of 5.6/30/60.5/3.9（w/w/w/w）.The electrochemical sensor shows a linear dynamic range 1.0 10 7–1.0 10 1mol/L and a Nernstian slope of 58.9 0.5 mV/decade with a detection limit of 8.09 10 8mol/L for Ag（Ⅰ） *** has a fast response time of 〈10 s and can be used for at least 8 weeks without any considerable divergences in its potential *** was successfully used as an indicator electrode in potentiometric titration of Ag（Ⅰ）cation with I and Cl anions and also for the determination of this metal cation in radiology waste water.

LC-Z-Source Inverter Design and Control

The paper presents a new Z-source inverter with a low-stress reduction in the voltage of capacitors compared to the traditional Z-source inverter with the same boost factor. The proposed structure reduces costs and weight by reducing voltage *** main difference between this inverter and the traditional Z-source inverter lies in the arrangement of the components. In addition, the superiority of the proposed inverter over the L-Z-source inverter is related to the use of two capacitors instead of two diodes, which increases the boost power factor and obviates the need for the snubber circuit. Furthermore, another advantage of the proposed inverter can be extended to n cases in cascade form and the proposed inverter is continues current. The analysis,derivation of boost factor, capacitor voltages, voltages gain,and switch stress of the proposed inverter topology are carried out and are compared with the similar *** advantages of the proposed structure are verified by simulation and implementation.

Mechanical responses of pristine and defective hexagonal boron-nitride nanosheets:A molecular dynamics investigation

ABSTRACT In this work we conducted classical molecular dynamics(MD)simulation to investigate the mechanical characteristics and failure mechanism of hexagonal boron-nitride(h-BN)*** and defective structure of h-BN nanosheets were considered under the uniaxial tensile loadings at various *** defective structure contains three types of the most common initial defects in engineering materials that are known as cracks,notches(with various length/size),and point vacancy defects(with a wide range of concentration).MD simulation results demonstrate a high load-bearing capacity of extremely defective(amorphized)h-BN *** results also reveal that the tensile strength decline by increasing the defect content and temperature as *** MD results provide a comprehensive and useful vision concerning the mechanical properties ofh-BN nanosheets with/without defects,which is very critical for the designing of nanodevices exploiting the exceptional physics of h-BN.

Molecular dynamic simulation of carbon dioxide,methane,and nitrogen adsorption on Faujasite zeolite

Removing impurities such as carbon dioxide and nitrogen from natural gas is a technical challenge and one of the major concerns in natural gas treatment *** this study,adsorption of CH_(4),N_(2),and CO_(2)on the Faujasite(FAU)zeolite has been studied using molecular dynamics simulation at temperatures of 293,308,and 323 K and pressures up to 1 *** force field was used to model the interactions between zeolite and guest *** and atom-based summation methods were used for the calculation of electrostatic and van der Waals forces,*** results were modeled using Langmuir,Freundlich,Toth,and Sips adsorption *** isotherm for CO_(2),and Toth isotherm for CH_(4)and N_(2)pure compounds showed the best *** of adsorption for CH_(4),CO_(2),and N_(2)were calculated to be-15.48,-24.1,and-13.31 kJ·mol^(-1),respectively.A comparative study showed that the simulation model was successful in predicting the overall trend of the adsorption with acceptable accuracy.

Photocatalytic activity of cation(Mn) and anion(N) substitution in LaCoO3 nanoperovskite under visible light

LaCoO3 compound and novel photocatalysts of LaCo0.8Mn0.2O3 and N-doped LaCoO3 were synthesized by sol-gel *** structure,morphology,size of particles and optical properties of the obtained powders were characterized by X-ray diffractometer(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and ultraviolet-visible(UV-Vis)(DRS mode) *** perovskite structure obtained for all the prepared samples and doping Mn and N do not change the perovskite *** results revealed that the size of particles of all perovskites was less than 100 *** to that of parent LaCoO3,the band gap energy of LaCo0.8Mn0.2O3 and N-doped LaCoO3 considerably reduced due to the formation of impurity *** photocatalytic activity of all samples was evaluated by the degradation of malachite green as a model dye under visible light *** discoloration induced by LaCo0.8Mn0.2O3 was twice that induced by pure LaCoO3 because of Mn ions with variable valance and smaller band gap *** nitrogen incorporation also significantly improved the photocatalytic activity of LaCoO3 due to more oxygen vacancies and the stronger absorption in visible *** general,doping has been served as one of the most efficient methods for the improvement in band gap of photocatalysts.
