Prevalence and risk factors of avian influenza h9n2 among backyard birds in Iran in 2015

Objective: To investigate the prevalence and the risk factors of h9 n2 avian influenza among backyard birds in Iran between October and november 2015. Methods: In this study, a total of 15 500 blood samples and 2 884 cloacal swab samples of backyard birds were collected in villages of Iran between October and november 2015. Then, serum samples were examined with the hemagluttination inhibition test and cloacal swab samples were pooled together and examined by RT-PCR. The samples that had serological titer ≥ 4(log2) and villages that had at least one seropositive sample were considered ***: Out of 559 villages, 526(94.10%) were seropositive for the infection. Among 15 500 serum samples, 7 468(48.18%) samples were seropositive for the infection. The seroprevalence according to species was 54.02% among chickens, 17.59 % among ducks, 18.73% among turkeys, 84.21% among pigeons and 12.15% among ostriches, partridges and pheasants. Based on molecular test, 3.04% villages were positive. The seroprevalence in hot and humid area was less than that in cold and humid area(Pnclusions: h9 n2 avian influenza has high seroprevalence among backyard birds of Iran. Therefore, preventive measures such as biosecurity Practices and monitoring should be applied to reduce the prevalence.

Peripheral nerve injuries induce a severe motor and sensory deficit. Since the availability of autologous nerve transplants for nerve repair is very limited, alternative treatment strategies are sought, including the use of tubular nerve guidance conduits(tnGCs). however, the use of tnGCs results in poor functional recovery and central necrosis of the regenerating tissue, which limits their application to short nerve lesion defects(typically shorter than 3 cm). Given the importance of vascularization in nerve regeneration, we hypothesized that enabling the growth of blood vessels from the surrounding tissue into the regenerating nerve within the tnGC would help eliminate necrotic processes and lead to improved regeneration. In this study, we reported the application of macroscopic holes into the tubular walls of silk-based tnGCs and compared the various features of these improved silk^(+) tnGCs with the tubes without holes(silk^(–) tnGCs) and autologous nerve transplants in an 8-mm sciatic nerve defect in rats. Using a combination of micro-computed tomography and histological analyses, we were able to prove that the use of silk^(+) tnGCs induced the growth of blood vessels from the adjacent tissue to the intraluminal neovascular formation. A significantly higher number of blood vessels in the silk^(+) group was found compared with autologous nerve transplants and silk^(–), accompanied by improved axon regeneration at the distal coaptation point compared with the silk^(–) tnGCs at 7 weeks postoperatively. In the 15-mm(critical size) sciatic nerve defect model, we again observed a distinct ingrowth of blood vessels through the tubular walls of silk^(+) tnGCs, but without improved functional recovery at 12 weeks postoperatively. Our data proves that macroporous tnGCs increase the vascular supply of regenerating nerves and facilitate improved axonal regeneration in a short-defect model but not in a critical-size defect model. Environment-friendly pigments based on AFeO_(3)(A=La,Pr,nd,Sm,Gd,Tb,Y or Yb)with high nearinfrared(nIR)reflectance were synthesised by a coprecipitation method at 1200℃.The Rietveld refinement analysis showed single-phase orthorhombic perovskite for all *** pigments,which showed reddish hues,offered good colour stability after mixing these pigments in powder form with siloxane transparent paint and two different *** powderepaint mixtures produced with GdFeO_(3),TbFeO_(3) and YFeO_(3) pigments have the highest nIR solar reflectance,reaching values of R=50%.The temperature shielding studies conducted using TbFeO_(3) pigmentepaint mixture for a roof coating yielded a reduction of 3.2℃ in comparison to a commercial ***,the glazes that were pigmented using GdFeO_(3),TbFeO_(3) and YFeO_(3) compositions also presented the most intense reddish colours.A study of the thermal and chemical stability of the pigment with the highest nIR solar reflectance showed good stability in both *** reddish pigments that were prepared can therefore be good candidates for use in different applications such as cool pigments or pigments for ceramic glazes at high temperatures.

Melamine and poly vinylpyrrolidone （PVP） reacted with neat sulfuric acid readily to form two new organic solid acids namely melamine-（h2SO4）3 and PVP-（h2SO4）n. These solid acids were used for the first nitration of bisphenol A as well as other phenols in the presence of nhanO3. A novel 1× 2 multimode interference photonics switch structure based on thermal controlling effect is proposed. A ridge waveguide of photosensitive polymer, benzocyclobutene （BCB 4024-40） on silica clad is used as a design structure. A temperature changes as a result of electrode heating are analysed by employing a two-dimensional finite difference thermal model considering both conduction and convection mechanisms. The switching characteristics due to changes in effective index are analysed by the two-dimensional finite difference beam propagation method with transparent boundary condition. The proposed structure works well with low crosstalk level of -28 dB and low switching power relatively to the structural upper cladding thickness.

A series of novel unsymmetrical n-（4-oxo-2-phenyl-3（4h）-quinazolinoyl）-n-（aryl） acetamidines was synthesized by reacting ethyl（1h）-n-（4-oxo-2-phenylquinazolin-3（4h）-y1）ethanimidoate（2） and suitable reactive aromatic ***＇ determination of the synthesized compounds was carried out using spectroscopic techniques including IR,~1h nMR,and mass spectrometry. The highly pathogenic avian influenza h5n1 pandemic motivated countries around the World to be prepared for outbreaks within their borders. Well ahead of the outbreak, in Jordan contingency plans were prepared involving all relevant bodies in both the private and public sectors and a practice was simulated to test the effectiveness of the task force and the applicability of the plan. The highly pathogenic h5n1 influenza virus was detected and confirmed in one turkey in a backyard flock comprising 12 turkeys and 25 chickens in Kufranjah, 6 km from Ajloun city, on 23 March 2006. The samples were confirmed by the following day. Control measures were implemented immediately according to the national contingency plan and complete clean up achieved by 27 March 2006. A 3 km area around the index case was designated as a control zone, with a 10 km area around the holding further designated as a surveillance zone. The objective was to stamp out the infection and approximately 20,000 birds were destroyed including all commercial and backyard flocks in the control zone. All the human contacts were examined, treated and discharged from the hospital. The immediate response from all Jordanian sectors involved in the control strategy was positive as a result of increasing awareness and training programs that were implemented six months before the occurrence of the outbreak. A total estimated economic loss posed by this outbreak including compensation was almost $US169 million. Following the outbreak, passive surveil-lance for the virus was undertaken and training and capacity building continued. Efforts made in the preparation for an outbreak paid dividends and the need for a department responsible for monitoring migratory and wild birds in Jordan was recognized. Legislation regarding biosecurity of poultry farms and poultry transport vehicles should be revised.
