The lithium sulfur batteries(LSBs) are considered as one of the promising next generation energy storage devices due to the high theoretical specific capacity of sulfur(1675 m Ah g-1), naturally available, low ***, the practical LSBs are impeded by the well-known "shuttle effect" combined with other technical drawbacks. The "shuttle effect" causes rapid capacity decay, severe self-discharging and low active material utilization. The polysulfide(PS) which has lone pair electrons in each sulfur atom is considered as Lewis base and shows strong affinity to various polar, Lewis acid and catenation interactive materials but very weakly interacts with the non-polar conductive carbons. The "shuttle effect" occurs due to the diffusion of high order PS from the cathode to the anode and then low-order PS back to the cathode. The PS is polar and, due to a lone pair of electrons associated with the sulfur atom, is considered a Lewis base. As such, the PS shows a strong affinity with various polar and Lewis acid materials. In addition, a more novel trapping can be performance through a catenation reaction. For LSBs to compete with the state-of-the-art lithium ion batteries(LIBs), the LSB areal capacity need to be ~6 m Ah cm-2(which is proportional to sulfur loading). To achieve this target the PS shuttling needs to mitigate, which can be achieved through using functional materials. This review addresses the aforementioned phenomena by considering the PS phase interacts with the various functional materials and how this impacts areal capacity and cycling stability of LSBs.

Synthesis and Characterization of 2,2’-Bipyridyl-5,5’-Dialdehyde Schiff Bases from O,S,N and F-Containing Amines

Design and synthesis of organic chelating agents containing nitrogen and sulfur as donor atoms and their metal complexes is an interesting field of research for their different types of activities. The bi-dentate N,N chelating agent such as 2,2-Bipyridal has been playing a vital role in synthetic and medicinal chemistry. 2,2-Bipyridal has been used to prepare many mixed-ligand complexes. Different ligand complexes prepared from 2,2-Bipyridyl are used in different areas such as molecular catalysis, solar energy conversion, calorimetric analysis, herbicides, molecular recognition, self-assembly, antineoplastic agents, and nucleic acid probes. Another important property of these types of compounds is the triplet state photosensitizing character of bipyridyl nucleus, which is shown in metal complexes. It is also found that compounds containing O,S,N atoms have received considerable attention because of their pharmacological studies like anticancer, antibacterial, and antitumour activities. Therefore, it has been decided to synthesize Schiff bases derived from 2,2’- bipyridyl-5,5’-dicarbaldehyde compounds with O,S,N and F-containing amines and study their antibacterial properties. Several new Schiff bases have been synthesized and fully characterized by spectral data. This paper presents the synthesis and characterization of newly designed Schiff bases.

New Schiff Bases from 6,6’-Diformyl-2,2’-Bipyridyl with Amines Containing O, S, N and F: Synthesis and Characterization

Eight novel Schiff Bases, from 6,6′-diformyl-2,2′-bipyridyl (1a, 43%)with O, N, S and F containing amines: Thiosemicarbazide (2a, 70%), 4-Ethyl-3-thiosemicabazide (2b, 75%), 4,4-Dimethyl-3-thio-semicarbazide (2c, 75%), S-benzyldithiocarbazide, SBDTC (2d, 80%), (Trifluromethyl) phenylhy-drazine (2e, 80%), 4-Phenyl-3-thiosemcarbazide (2f, 80%), Thiocarbazide (2g, 70%), 2-Amino-thiophenol (2h, 65%), have been synthesized. The conventional method of synthesis of the Schiff bases involves refluxing the reaction mixture containing the diformyls and amines for 1 hour. The solid products that had formed were filtered off using suction filtration. In few reactions, 2 - 3 drops of conc. sulfuric acid were used to obtain high yield. The structures of all eight novel synthesized compounds have fully been characterized by spectroscopic (IR, NMR, MS) methods.

Background: Depression is a common and serious medical illness around the world. It occurs more frequently in patients with chronic illness than in the general population. It is a common psychiatric problem in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Objective: To assess the level of depression in pre-dialytic CKD patients attending at a tertiary care hospital in Bangladesh. Methodology: This cross sectional study was conducted at Department of Nephrology, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka, Bangladesh from January 2020 to June 2020. A total of 100 pre-dialytic CKD patients were selected by convenience sampling technique and their level of depression was assessed by Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale (ZSDS). Data were collected by existing questionnaire with face to face interview and analyzed by statistical test. Results: The mean age of the participants was 49.70 ± 11.80 years. Among them 64% were male, 95% were muslim, 98% were married, 65% were completed secondary/above higher secondary level education, 65% were unemployed and 55% were lived in urban area. It was observed that 65% participants were economically dependent to their family, only 6% were engaged in regular exercise, 14% had family history of depression, 8% were smoker and 12% were alcohol/drug abuser. According to the Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale (ZSDS) we found 29% participants were mildly depressed, 39% participants were moderately depressed and 18% participants were severely depressed. Prevalence of depression was 86% in pre-dialytic CKD patients. Of them, 7% was in CKD stage-I, 17.4% was in CKD stage-II, 19.8% was in CKD stage-III, 22.1% was in CKD stage-IV and 33.7% was in CKD stage-V. Conclusion: Depression is highly prevalent in pre-dialytic CKD patients and more frequent in the advanced stages of CKD.

A 3D benign paroxysmal positional vertigo model for study of otolith disease

Objective:To develop a three-dimensional study tool of the membranous labyrinth in order to study the pathophysiology, diagnostic workup and treatment of benign paroxysmal posi-tional vertigo (BPPV). BPPV is the most common cause of peripheral vertigo. Its diagnosis and treat-ment depend on an understanding of the anatomy of the vestibular labyrinth and its position relative to the head. To date, many illustrations have been made to explain principals of diagnosis and treat-ment of BPPV, but few have been based on anatomical studies of the membranous labyrinth. Methods:A cadaveric human membranous labyrinth was axially sectioned at 20 mm resolution, stained and segmented to create a high-resolution digital model. The model was cloned to create an enantio-meric pair of labyrinths. These were associated a 3D model of a human skull, segmented from MRI data, and were oriented according to established anatomic norms. Canal markers representing otoliths were created to mark canalith position during movement of the model within the 3D environment. Results:The model allows visualization of true membranous labyrinth anatomy in both ears simulta-neously. The dependent portion of each semicircular duct and of the utricle can easily be visualized in any head position. Moveable markers can mark the expected progress of otolith debris with changes in head position and images can be captured to document simulations. The model can be used to simulate pathology as well as diagnostic maneuvers and treatment procedures used for BPPV. The model has great potential as a teaching tool. Conclusion:A simple model based on human anatomy has been created to allow careful study of BPPV pathophysiology and treatment. Novel Automated Paced Fractionation Detection Algorithm for Ablating Ventricular Tachycardia

Catheter ablation therapy has become a key intervention in treatment of ventriculartachycardia (VT). However, current fractionation mapping methods used to isolate the ablation targets in VT patients are done manually, and are therefore time consuming. They also have limited success rates (50% recurrence rate within 2 years). We present a fully automated fractionation detection algorithm for patients with VT which expands on previously defined fractionation features and which substantially decreases associated study times. Paced electrogram signals were collected from six patients during electrophysiologic study according to a modified paced electrogram fractionation analysis protocol. Data were exported and analyzed offline using custom written software. Electrograms from right ventricular pacing catheter were used as reference. Surface electrograms, along with ventricular geometry and relative catheter locations, were used to identify physiological interference and physiologically irrelevant features. A total of 264 electrograms, collected from a roving catheter, were manually and automatically annotated for fractionation as defined by three features: conduction time (CT), electrogram duration (ED), and number of deflections (ND). Of these, 60 were selected manually to have no discernable features and were successfully discarded by our algorithm;yielding a specificity of 100%. Of the remaining 204, 16 were erroneously discarded by our algorithm;yielding a sensitivity of 92.16%. A comparison between annotations showed correlations of 0.98, 0.97, and 0.94 for AL, ED, and ND respectively.
