Comparison of anterior segment parameters of the eye between type 2 diabetic with and without diabetic retinopathy and non-diabetic

AIM:To compare anterior segment parameters between two groups of type 2 diabetic with and without diabetic retinopathy(Dr)and non-diabetic elderly subjects based on hemoglobin A1c(Hb A1c)levels and status of ***:This study was conducted on 997 residents aged 60y or over in Tehran,*** group had Hb A1c level≥6.4%with no other systemic *** non-diabetic participants had normal eye findings and no systemic diseases.K1,K2,mean K,Q-value,anterior,central,posterior,and total corneal densitometric findings,anterior chamber volume(ACV),anterior chamber depth(ACD),corneal volume(CV),and pachymetry were measured by Pentacam ***:A total of 678 non-diabetic(39%male)and 319 diabetic(35%male)subjects with mean age of 66.31±5.23 and 67.22±4.96y were examined,*** statistically significant difference was found in anterior segment parameters between non-diabetic and diabetic groups(all P>0.05).However,middle,posterior,and total corneal densitometric values were statistically different between two groups af ter controlling the ef fects of confounders(P=0.014,0.007,and 0.042,respectively).Corneal densitometric values in all layers,ACD,and ACV were different between diabetic subjects with and without Dr(all Proup,only corneal densitometric values had a negative relationship with fasting blood sugar(Prrelation with Hb A1c levels(all Pr=-0.129 and-0.146,respectively).However,the relationships were not observed after controlling the confounders(P=0.938,0.466,respectively).CONCLUSION:Considering the higher densitometric values of the cornea and lower ACD and ACV in diabetic subjects with Dr,it is suggested that the examiners should perform comprehensive retinal examinations when faced with such conditions.

The Qooshchi area lies to northwest of Orumieh Lake in western Azerb ai jan, NW Iran. A basement metamorphic complex, consisting of Precambrian schists and gneisses, has been intruded by gabbros and diorites. Granitoids are grouped into five suites according to their mineralogy, texture and exposed features. Th e main body, pink Qooshchi granite, and apophyse like, myrmekite bearing grani toids are discussed in this paper. On the basis of field observations and micros copic studies, an intensive metasomatism has overprinted the country rocks, espe cially gabbros, transforming them into a more felsic composition. A prior ev ent of intensive deformation and cataclasis preceded the metasomatism, allowing the introduction of hydrothermal fluids. K metasomatism converted plagioclase i nto K feldspar (microcline), myrmekite, and sodic plagioclase as Si metasomati sm replaced the ferromagnesian silicates by quartz. Apophyse like bodies within gabbros, called leucometasomatites, are formed during this process.

Natural ventilation performance can be influenced by various factors,including facade treatments such as *** have been commonly incorporated into residential buildings for various purposes,yet the provision of a balcony as a passive design strategy to improve natural ventilation is not one of its common *** objective of this study is to investigate the effect of balcony design on the natural ventilation performance of cross-ventilated high-rise *** study uses Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD)models to predict ventilation *** models are selected because of their accuracy,flexibility and ability to provide comprehensive data for the *** study suggests that balconies in high-rise apartments could improve the ventilation performance of high-rise apartments,but that balconies can also have a negative impact on ventilation performance if not appropriately ***,this study suggests that balconies could improve the level of thermal comfort and indoor air quality of apartments by providing greater indoor air speed and better ventilation performance,respectively.

AIM: To investigate the effect of stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth(SHED) transplanted for bone regeneration in the dog mandibular ***: In this prospective comparative study, SHEDs had been isolated 5 years ago from human exfoliated deciduous teeth. The undifferentiated stem cells were seeded into mandibular bone through-andthrough defects of 4 dogs. Similar defects in control group were filled with cell-free collagen scaffold. After 12 wk, biopsies were taken and morphometric analysis was performed. The percentage of new bone formation and foreign body reaction were measured in each case. The data were subject to statistical analysis using the Mann-Whitney U and Kruskalwalis statistical tests. Differences at P red as significant ***: There were no significant differences between control and SHED-seeded groups in connective tissue(P = 0.248), woven bone(P = 0.248) and compact bone(P = 0.082). There were not any side effects in transplanted SHED group such as teratoma or malignancy and abnormalities in this ***: SHEDs which had been isolated and characterized 5 years ago and stored with cryopreservation banking were capable of proliferation and osteogenesis after 5 years, and no immune response was observed after three months of seeded SHEDs.

Businesses are currently being forced to re-evaluate their energy practices with the emergence of carbon pricing in many developed nations including Australia’s relatively new carbon pricing *** paper expands on a previous investigation by these authors.A gas turbine CHP system is examined to determine the financial impact Australia’s carbon price has on the installation incentive to help businesses become more energy *** economic cases were considered to ensure a comprehensive analysis was *** system was unprofitable under all configurations indicating a gas turbine based system was not financially beneficial when applied to this case ***,the system became slightly more economical when the carbon price was introduced indicating the installation of a CHP system may be beneficial under carbon pricing.

Yogurt—a milk based mix fermented by lactic acid bacteria is a valuable health food for both young and old. Milk is the main ingredient of yogurt. However, most yogurts contain additional solids such as milk solids nonfat to boost the nonfat milk solids. Stabilizers such as natural gums are added to improve and maintain gel firmness and consistency, while also for many people to improve appearance and mouth feel. Hydrocolloidsspecifically stabilize gel structure, increaseviscosity and either from networks with milk constituents and establish a separate gel structure. In current research, a natural local plant Iranian hydrocolloid, cress seed gum, is added to yogurt formulation and its rheological propertiesare evaluated using a rotational viscometer. Different famous rheological models have beenused to fit shear stress-shear rate data’s. The results demonstrated that cress seed gum has a good potential to be used as a stabilizer in yogurt formula.
