Nitrate from the application of nitrogen-based fertilizers in intensive agriculture is a notorious waste product, though it lacks cost-effective solutions for its removal from potential drinking water resources. Catalytic reduction appears to be a promising technique for converting nitrates to benign nitrogen gas. Mesoporous silica SBA-15 is a frequently used catalyst support that has large surface areas and highly ordered nanopores. In this work, mesoporous silica SBA-15 bimetallic catalysts for nitrate reduction were investigated. The catalyst was optimized for the selection of promoter metal (Sn and Cu), noble metal (Pd and Pt) and loading ratios of these metals at different temperatures and reduction conditions. The catalysts prepared were characterized by FT-IR, N2 physisorption, XRD, SEM, and ICP. All catalysts showed the presence of cylindrical mesoporous channels and uniform pore structures that remained even after metals loading. In the presence of a CO2 buffer, the catalysts 4Pd-1Cu/SBA-15 and 1Pt-1Cu/SBA-15 reduced at 100?C under H2 and 1Pd-1Cu/SBA-15 reduced at 200°C under H2 demonstrated very high nitrate conversion. Furthermore, the forementioned Pd catalysts had higher N2 selectivity (88% - 87%) compared to Pt catalyst (80%). Nitrate conversion by the 4Pd-1Cu/SBA-15 catalyst was significantly decreased to 81% in the absence of CO2.

The Positivity Rate of Epstein-Barr Virus Anti-Viral Capsid Antigen IgG among Children with Infectious Mononucleosis in Diyala-Iraq

Background: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a double-stranded linear DNA human herpesvirus that is transmitted primarily through saliva during childhood. Although the majority of primary EBV infections are clinically asymptomatic, clinical cases are presented as infectious mononucleosis (IMN) syndrome. Objectives: This study was conducted to explore the rate of EBV anti-VCA IgG among children who were clinically suspected as having IMNin Diyala province. Subjects and Methods: This is a cross sectional study that was carried out during 2018 in Diyala province-Iraq. A total of 370 blood samples were collected from 190 children under 15 years of age who were clinically suspected as having IMN, and 180 apparently healthy children as controls. The anti EBV VCA IgG antibodies were detected in serum using the VCA IgG ELISA kit (from *** Diagnostic Bioprobessrl-Italy). Statistical analysis was carried out using the SPSS-version 25. A statistical significance was considered whenever the P value was ≤ 0.05. Results: The results showed that the IgG positivity rate among suspected IMN patients was insignificantly higher in the age group 10 - 14 years old children (80.8%, P = 0.364). In control subjects the highest positivity rate was in the age group of 1 - 4 years with a statistically significant difference (79.5%, P = 0.002). In suspected IMN patients, the age group of 10 - 14 years had the highest mean concentration ± SD of anti-VCA IgG 44.018 ± 38.644 arbitrary units per milliliter (arbU/ml), while in controls, the highest value 38.018 ± 34.908 (arbU/ml) was in the age group of 1 - 4 years, with insignificant difference in either group (P = 0.257 and 0.072, respectively). The results also showed that in both suspected IMN patients and control subjects, females showed higher IgG positivity rate (70.6%, and 75.5%) compared to males (64.8%, and 65.1%) with insignificant difference in both groups (P = 0.392 and 0.126) respectively. Domination and Eternal Domination of Jahangir Graph

In the eternal dominating set problem, guards form a dominating set on a graph and at each step, a vertex is attacked. We consider the “all guards move” of the eternal dominating set problem. In which one guard has to move to the attacked vertex and all the remaining guards are allowed to move to an adjacent vertex or stay in their current position after each attack. If the new formed set of guards is still a dominating set of the graph then we successfully defended the attack. Our goal is to find the minimum number of guards required to eternally protect the graph. We call this number the m-eternal domination number and we denote it by . In this paper we find the eternal domination number of Jahangir graph Js,m for s=2,3 and arbitrary m. We also find the domination number for J3,m .

Vasospasm as a Complication after Aneurysmal Rupture and Its Relation with Surgical Clipping and Endovascular Coiling among a Georgian Sample

Background: Potentially lethal, aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage has a bad prognosis for many individuals. Over the past few decades, endovascular and surgical interventions have been developed, including surgical clipping, and endovascular coiling. Patients who have aSAH are also susceptible to delayed cerebral ischemia and cerebral vasospasm. The aim of this study is to compare the outcome of endovascular coiling with surgical clipping in patients with SAH, specifically in relation to prevalence of vasospasm, in the country of Georgia. Method: In this study, we present a retrospective review of the outcomes of 217 patients with acute subarachnoid hemorrhage who underwent endovascular coiling or surgical clipping. The data were gathered from patients who are admitted to New Vision University Hospital and Caucasus Medical Center in Tbilisi, Georgia, between 2017 and 2022. Results: Vasospasm was prevalent in 217 of the patients who had aneurysmal rupture when they first appeared. Endovascular coiling or surgical clipping was used to treat aneurysmal rupture. In our sample, 24.81 percent of patients who underwent coiling experienced vasospasm after 14 days, compared to 31.25 percent of patients who underwent clipping. After endovascular coiling and surgical clipping, the severity of vasospasm was only slightly different, according to Lindegaard ratios. Finally, 32 patients (23.35 percent) died after coiling whereas 55 patients (68.75 percent) died within three decades of clipping. Conclusion: After 5 years of data collection, this study has demonstrated the most favorable option for treatment is endovascular coiling. However, the treatment choice takes multiple factors into account, and clipping is not ideal for some ruptured aneurysms. Despite the fact that endovascular coiling is usually successful and minimally invasive, complications can occur and additional monitoring and potential surgical intervention are indicated.

This paper is devoted to the analysis of the two-layer shallow-water equations representing gravity currents. A similarity technique which is the characteristic function method is applied for this study. The application of the characteristic function method makes it possible to obtain the similarity forms depending on a group of infinitesimal transformations. Thus, the number of independent variables is reduced by one and the governing partial differential equations with the auxiliary conditions reduce to a system of ordinary differential equations with the appropriate auxiliary conditions. Numeric solutions are presented and discussed.

Application of ERT Survey for Addressing the Issues of Urban Rain Storm Water Logging in the Qassim Province of Saudi Arabia

The Qassim province is one of the most arid regions of Saudi Arabia, however heavy rainfall events have led to water logging problems in the populated centers like Buraidah mainly as a consequence of construction in low lying areas and valleys. Urban rain storm water logging problem were reported at 4 localities in the Buraidah Municipal area after heavy rainfall in November 2008 and March 2009. The logged water from these sites were directed to 4 manmade lakes however the stagnant water in these lakes posed a serious environmental threat mainly in the form of water borne disease. Keeping this problem in mind, a detailed geophysical investigation in the form of Electrical Resistivity Tomography was carried out using the SYSCAL Pro Unit at these 4 locations with a dipole-dipole configuration. The survey was helpful in delineating the wet zones from the dry ones and based on the interpretations the optimum depth and sites of 4 injections bore-wells were determined at each locality. These injection bore-well would serve the dual propose of getting rid of the stagnant water in these lakes and also recharging the underlying aquifers.
