Enhanced removal of nitrate and phosphate from wastewater by Chlorella vulgaris: Multi-objective optimization and CFD simulation

To enhance the efficiency of wastewater biotreatment with microalgae, the effects of physical parameters need to be investigated and optimized. In this regard, the individual and interactive effects of temperature, p H and aeration rate on the performance of biological removal of nitrate and phosphate by Chlorella vulgaris were studied by response surface methodology(RSM). Furthermore, a multi-objective optimization technique was applied to the response equations to simultaneously find optimal combinations of input parameters capable of removing the highest possible amount of nitrate and phosphate. The optimal calculated values were temperature of 26.3 °C, pH of 8 and aeration rate of 4.7 L·min^(-1). Interestingly, under the optimum condition, approximately 85% of total nitrate and 77% of whole phosphate were removed after 48 h and 24 h, respectively, which were in excellent agreement with the predicted values. Finally, the effect of baffle on mixing performance and, as a result, on bioremoval efficiency was investigated in Stirred Tank Photobioreactor(STP) by means of Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD). Flow behavior indicated substantial enhancement in mixing performance when the baffle was inserted into the tank. Obtained simulation results were validated experimentally. Under the optimum condition, due to proper mixing in baffled STP, nitrate and phosphate removal increased up to 93% and 86%,respectively, compared to unbaffled one.

In this paper the process of knowledge accumulation for a particular technology is studied. Two countries, say the technology follower and the technology frontier, are considered. The frontier＇s knowledge growth is determined by its R＆D efforts on the technology. The level of knowledge stock for the follower country is augmented by its R＆D activities for the technology and absorbing some of the external knowledge through spillover from the frontier. The extent to which the follower is able to exploit the external knowledge depends on technological gap, absorptive capacity, absorption time and degree of spillover. New concepts such as natural and enhanced degree of spillover, background and innovative knowledge and absorption speed are introduced in the present work to deeply explore the process of knowledge spillover. The factors influencing the knowledge development in the long term are simultaneously studied in an integrated structure provided by the System Dynamics approach. This framework shows the responses to the changes and provides the basis for examining the interactions among the variables over time.

FeTi_1-O_2（= 0.00,0.05,0.10） nanocomposites are synthesized using a sol-gel method involving an ethanol solvent in the presence of ethylene glycol as the stabilizer,and acetic acid as the chemical *** structural and optical analyses are studied to reveal their physicochemical *** the x-ray diffractometer（XRD）analysis,the size of the nanoparticles（NPs） is found to be 18-32 nm,where the size of the NPs decreases down to 18 nm when Fe impurity of up to 10% is added,whereas their structure remains *** results also indicate that the structure of the NPs is tetragonal in the anatase *** Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis suggests the presence of a vibration bond（Ti-O） in the *** photoluminescence analysis indicates that the diffusion of Fe^（3＋） ions into the TiO_2 matrix results in a decreasing electron-hole recombination,and increases the photocatalytic properties,where the best efficiency appears at an impurity of10%.The UV-diffuse reflection spectroscopy analysis indicates that with the elevation of iron impurity,the band gap value decreases from 3.47 eV for the pure sample to 2.95 eV for the 10 mol% Fe-doped TiO_2 NPs.

Together with the mechanical properties,the degradation rate is an important factor for biodegradable *** ZKX50 Mg alloy is a suitable candidate to be used as a biodegradable implant due to its favorable biocompatibility and mechanical *** research investigates the degradation rate and corrosion behavior of the ZKX50 as a function of the microstructure constituents and their *** grain refinement is the main strengthening mechanism for the ZKX50,the effect of the microstructure refinement on the corrosion rate was studied by applying electron beam processing(EBP)and friction stir processing(FSP)on the ZKX50 cast *** study the effect of the microstructure constituents and their morphology a subsequent solution heat treatment(HT)was applied to the processed *** results show that the EBP and FSP lead to a uniform and remarkably refined microstructure of the ZKX50 alloy and homogeneous distribution of the intermetallic *** results of electrochemical corrosion tests together with the microstructure characterization show that microgalvanic corrosion is the predominant mechanism that occurs between the Ca2Mg6Zn3 intermetallic phase andα-Mg *** to the results attained through the electrochemical tests,the EBPed-HT ZKX50 alloy shows higher corrosion resistance compared to all other conditions immersed in 0.5 wt.%NaCl *** dissolution and spheroidizing of Ca2Mg6Zn3 particles during the solution heat treatment provides higher corrosion resistance mainly by decreasing the microgalvanic *** microstructure of the heat-treated samples does not show a significant grain coarsening which can degrade the enhancement of the mechanical properties achieved by the EBP and FSP.

In this paper, an online optimal distributed learning algorithm is proposed to solve leader-synchronization problem of nonlinear multi-agent differential graphical games. Each player approximates its optimal control policy using a single-network approximate dynamic programming(ADP) where only one critic neural network(NN) is employed instead of typical actorcritic structure composed of two NNs. The proposed distributed weight tuning laws for critic NNs guarantee stability in the sense of uniform ultimate boundedness(UUB) and convergence of control policies to the Nash equilibrium. In this paper, by introducing novel distributed local operators in weight tuning laws, there is no more requirement for initial stabilizing control policies. Furthermore, the overall closed-loop system stability is guaranteed by Lyapunov stability analysis. Finally, Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

The synergistic effect of honey and cinnamon against Streptococcus mutans bacteria

Objective: To investigate the effect of Iranian honey, cinnamon and their combination against Streptococcus mutans ***: Nine experimental solutions were examined in this study, including two types of honey(pasteurized and sterilized), two types of cinnamon extract(dissolved in distilled water or dimethyl sulfoxide) and five different mixtures of cinnamon in honey(prepared by admixing 1%–5% w/w of cinnamon extract into 99%–95% w/w of honey, respectively).Meanwhile, each of mentioned agent was considered as the first solution while it was diluted into seven serially two-fold dilutions(from 1:2 to 1:128 v/v).Therefore, eight different concentrations of each agent were *** antibacterial tests were performed through blood agar well diffusion method, and the minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) was ***, the data were subjected to statistical analysis incorporating Two-way ANOVA and Bonferroni post hoc tests(a = 0.01).Results: The highest zone of inhibition was recorded for the mixtures of honey and cinnamon while all the subgroups containing 95%–99% v/v of honey were in the same range(P < 0.01).The MIC for both honey solutions were obtained as 500 mg/mL whereas it was 50 mg/m L for both cinnamon ***, the MIC related to all honey/cinnamon mixtures were 200 mg/***: A profound synergistic effect of honey and cinnamon was observed against Streptococcus mutans while there was no significant difference among extracts containing 99%–95% v/v of honey admixing with 1%–5% v/v of cinnamon, respectively.
