This research investigated the water qualities and distribution of heavy metals concentration in rain, river, ground and supply waters, providing a baseline in Dhaka Urban, Bangladesh, against which future changes can be assessed. The water sample was collected in the Dhaka central zone, from a site located in the center of the Bengal Delta plain between 23䓨'N - 23䓶'N latitude and 90䓔'E - 90䓟'E longitude which is affected by environmental pollution for high traffic, industrialization and because of its rapid urbanization. The water samples were analyzed for heavy metals by Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass-Spectrometry (ICP-MS), major ions by Ion-Chromatography (IC), water tracer (δ18O and δD) by Mass-Spectrometry (MS), following the standard techniques. Elevated EC and chloride (Cl-) are the markers of wastewater, providing an indication of impacts in the Buriganga River water. The relative concentrations of major ions were presented in the form of Piper and Stiff Diagram. The color maps were constructed to present ions distribution over the areas. The stream reaches directly in Buriganga River from leather industries which may reflect the naturally low dissolved oxygen (DO) 0.3 - 3.5 (mg/L), where aquatic life can’t survive. Uranium contents U238 (0.1 - 2.7 μg/L) are not exceeding the WHO guideline level of 30 μg·L-1. Significant portion of Cs133 (0.05 - 0.32 μg/L), Se (0.03 - 0.12 μg/L), B (50 - 2986 μg/L) and Cr (0.55 - 18.59 μg/L), could be increased in Buriganga River areas by the effect of local sources like leather industry. Zn (10 - 1466 μg/L) in the Dhaka Rain and Pb (4 - 6 μg/L) in Dhaka Water occur mainly in industrial and the high traffic areas, respectively. The isotopic (δ18O/δD) distributions have been evaluated for understanding of contaminant sources in groundwater and wastewater recharge from Buriganga River to adjacent depleted groundwater system. Study on Vaccination Efficacy against Avian Influenza in Rajshahi, Bangladesh

Vaccines are used in integrated control strategies to guard poultry against H5N1 high-pathogenicity avian influenza （AI）. This study was to evaluate the efficacy of AI vaccine against AI in poultry. About 400 serum samples were collected from the selected 130 farms located at Rajshahi region, Bangladesh. The study was carried out from January, 2013 to January, 2015. The AI vaccine titres were compared in different breed of layer, environmental temperature, feed and egg production. Result showed that the value of titres （mean ± SD） in Hyline brown, Hyline white, Bovans white and Novogen white were 6.71 ± 0.05, 6.67 ± 0.06, 6.79 ± 0.03 and 6.43 ± 0.04, respectively. The highest serum antibody titres were 6.61 ± 0.24 against AI antibody in 〉 26 ℃ environment temperature. The highest and lowest serum antibody value of AI against feed brand （nutrient） were 7.75 ± 0.08 and 5.58 ± 0.22 for Aftab and Quality brand feed, respectively.

The Patterns of Blood Groups and Its Association with Blood Donation in Saudi Arabia

Background: Blood groups system has key importance for transfusion safety and clinical practice. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the distribution of ABO blood groups and its association with blood donation in Saudi Arabia. Methodology: In this study, we collected information regarding blood donation from 715 Saudi volunteers living in the city of Hail, Northern Saudi Arabia. Data about blood donation were obtained from 715 Saudi volunteers living in the city of Hail. Results: The majority of the study population was found with group B+ representing 174 participants, followed by A+, O+, AB+, B-ve, A-ve, AB-ve and O-ve, representing 165, 153, 47, 29, 20, 9, and 7 participants, in this order. Conclusion: The major blood group among Saudi population is group B+ followed by group A+ and O+. Individuals with rare blood groups were less likely to participate in blood donation programs, which necessitate the need for educational programs using motivating factors.

Background: The risk of CKD is high in Saudi Arabia due to increasingly growing prevalence of its risk factors, such as diabetes, hypertension and obesity. Therefore, the objective of this study was to assess the level of awareness of Saudi population towards CKD risk factors in order to generate platform for future planning. Methodology: This study included 940 apparently healthy Saudi volunteers, their ages ranging from 17 to 65 years old with a mean age of 35 years. A purposeful questionnaire was designed and used for obtaining data about the CKD risk factors. Results: Out of 940 participants, 293 (31.2%) were males and 647 (68.8%) were females, giving males “females” ratio of 1.00:2.21. About 62.3% of the participants were found to believe that DM is one of the main risk factors for CKD, of whom, 74% were males and 57% were females. Approximately 60% of the participants were found believing that hypertension is one of the main risk factors for CKD, of whom 79.5% were males and 51.6% were females. Conclusion: There is an increasing in the prevalence of CKD risk factors among Saudi population. Although, the levels of awareness toward some CKD risk factors are relatively increasing, but more health education efforts are deemed importance.

Background: Increasing awareness level and health education can reduce the burden of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) at community base. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to assess the level of knowledge towards CKD manifestations in Saudi Arabia. Methodology: This is a descriptive prospective study including 900 apparently health Saudi volunteers, their ages ranging from 18 to 65 years old with a mean age of 34 years. A purposeful questionnaire was deliberated and used for obtaining data about the CKD. Results: Out of 900 contributors, 268 (29.8%) were males and 632 (70.2%) were females, giving males:females ratio of 1.00:2.36. About 102/900 (11.3%) of the participants (all of them were females) were found to believe that CKD has no specific symptoms. Conclusion: The awareness towards CKD manifestation is relatively low, which necessitates the important of community based intervention including health educational programs.

Varietal Performance of Turmeric under Mango Based Agroforestry System

An experiment was carried out at the Agroforestry and Environment Research Farm, Hajee mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur, Bangladesh, during April, 2014 to January 2015. The experiment was laid out in two factors Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Among the two factors, one factor like A was two production systems: S1 = Mango + Turmeric and S2 = Turmeric (sole crop);another factor like B was three turmeric variety: V1 = BARI Holud-1, V2 = BARI Holud-2 and V3 = BARI Holud-3. So, the treatment combinations were: S1V1 = Mango + BARI Holud-1, S1V2 = Mango + BARI Holud-2, S1V3 = Mango + BARI Holud-3, S2V1 = sole cropping of BARI Holud-1, S2V2 = sole cropping of BARI Holud-2 and S2V3 = sole cropping of BARI Holud-3. The result of the experiment revealed that interaction effect of production systems and variety was found significant on plant height, number of leaf per plant, length of leaf blade, breadth of leaf blade, number of finger per rhizome, fresh and dry yield per hectare. The higher fresh yield of turmeric (34.75 t/ha) and dry yield (6.10 t/ha) was found from S1V1 treatment (Mango + BARI Holud-1). Whereas the lowest fresh yield (33.41 t/ha) and dry yield (4.93 t/ha) was found from S2V2 treatment (sole cropping of BARI Holud-2). However, the suitability of the cultivation of different turmeric variety under mango based agroforestry systems may be ranked as S1V1 > S2V1 > S1V3 > S2V3 > S1V2 > S2V2. Finally it may be concluded that, BARI Holud-1 would be the best variety to be grown under mango based agroforestry.

Volcanic eruptions release large amounts of ash clouds and gas aerosols into the atmosphere,which can be simulated by air quality prediction ***,the performance of these models remains unsatisfactory,even though both relevant physics and chemistry are ***,exploring the approaches for improvement such as inclusion of data assimilation is *** this study,we depict the modeling of the volcanic ash dispersion from the Hunga Tonga–Hunga Ha’apai underwater volcano,which erupted in a series of large explosions in late December 2021 and early January *** 15 January 2022,a particularly significant explosion sent a massive ash cloud high into the *** used the inline Weather Research and Forecasting model coupled with chemistry(WRF-Chem) and incorporated meteorological data assimilation within the Flux Adjusting Surface Data Assimilation System (FASDAS).We compared three forecast scenarios:one with only meteorology and no chemistry(OMET),one with gas and aerosol chemistry and no assimilation (NODA),and one with both chemistry and assimilation (FASDAS).We found that FASDAS resulted in lower planetary boundary layer height (PBLH),downward surface shortwave flux,and 2-m temperature by up to 800 m,200 W m-2,and 6°C on the land portion,respectively,while the opposite was observed near the eruption *** validated the model against the observations and the results showed that FASDAS significantly enhanced the model performance in retrieving meteorological ***,the simulations also revealed significant biases in the concentration of volcanic ash around the ash *** from the Copernicus TROPOspheric Monitoring Instrument Sentinel-5 Precursor (TROPOMI-S5P) showed a westward trend of the total SO2 *** work demonstrates the significant contribution of data assimilation to the results of operational air quality predictions during violent volcanic eruption events.
