In this paper,a coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical(THM)simulation in a faulted deformable porous medium is *** model involves solving the mass conservation,linear momentum balance,and energy balance equations which are derived from the Biot’s consolidation *** pore pressure,solid displacement,and temperature are chosen as initial variables in these equations,and the finite element method in combination with the interface element is used for spatial discretization of continuous and discontinuities(fault)parts of the medium to solve the *** main purpose of this study is providing precise formulations,applicability,and ability of the triple-node zero-thickness interface element in THM modeling of *** should be noted that the system of equations is solved using a computer code written in Matlab *** order to verify the developed method,simulations of index problems such as Mandel’s problem,and coupled modeling of a faulted porous medium and a faulted aquifer are *** modeling results obtained from the developed method show a very good agreement with those by other modeling methods,which indicates its accuracy.

Electro-oxidation of phenylamine derivatives（1a and 1b） have been studied in the presence of pyrazolidine-3,5-dione（3） as a nucleophile in phosphate buffer solution mixed with ethanol,using voltammetric and spectroscopic *** obtained results indicated that the oxidized form of phenylamines（2a and 2b） participate in Michael addition type reactions with pyrazolidine-3,5-dione（3） and via ECECCCCC mechanisms convert to the corresponding new polycyclic indoles（12a and 12b）.In the present study,new polycyclic indole derivatives were synthesized with good yields and high purity using a facile,one-pot and environmentally friendly electrochemical method,without any chemical catalysts,toxic solvents and hard conditions.

Electrochemical oxidation of 4-methyl catechol（1a） is investigated in the presence of 1,3-indandione（3）as nucleophile in phosphate buffer solution（0.2 mol/L,pH 6） mixed with ethanol as organic green solvent（50/50） using cyclic voltammetry and controlled-potential *** results indicated thatquinones derived from electro-oxidation of 1a,participated in a 1,4-Michael addition reaction with1,3-indandione（3） under ECCE *** this direction,a new bis-quinone was synthesized in high yield and good purity using a facile and convenient electrochemical pathway by carbon anode electrodes in an undivided cell.

The aim of this study was to design a new emulsion liquid membrane(ELM)system for the separation of succinic acid from aqueous *** concentration of succinic acid varied from 20 to 60 mmol·L^(-1).The prepared ELM system includes tributylamine(TBA)as a carrier,commercial kerosene as a solvent,Span 80 as a surfactant,and Na2CO3as a stripping *** order to control the membrane swelling,different values of cyclohexanone were added to the membrane *** effect of various empirical variables on the extraction of the succinic acid such as acid concentration in the feed solution,initial feed concentration,carrier concentration,the stirring speed of the extraction,Na2CO3,surfactant,and cyclohexanone concentrations,and treat ratio in the ELM *** best result was obtained when TBA was used as the *** final acid extraction efficiency was independent of pH variations of the aqueous feed *** extraction of succinic acid solution with a concentration of 40 mmol·L^(-1)was improved by increasing the treat ratio 1:7-1:3,stripping phase concentration 0.5-1.5 mol·L^(-1),stirring speed 300-500 r·min^(-1)and cyclohexanone concentration in the membrane phase 1.2-1.6 mol·L^(-1).No considerable effect on the extraction rate was observed for the carrier concentration in the membrane ***,the surfactant concentration in the feed phase showed a dual effect on the extraction efficiency.

Optimization of acid fracturing for a tight carbonate reservoir

In this study,acid fracturing treatments were simulated for a tight limestone reservoir within a shale formation using FRACPRO *** purpose was to investigate the optimum acid fracturing design that leads to a higher fracture etched length and width,and higher fracture ***,the impact of the rock-acid contact time and whether to consider a post-flush or fluids flowback,on the acid fracturing outcomes were also investigated.A simple geological model was constructed which consists of different lithological *** acid fracturing design scenarios were considered starting from a single stage of acid injection to multi-stage *** multi-stage acid treatment,alternate acid-slickwater injection was *** HCl acids with different concentrations and other acids that are already included in FRACPRO database were *** results showed that the acid loss during post-flush is among the main problems of the acid fracturing in tight carbonate shale *** the single stage of acid injection,it is recommended to flow back the acid after well shut-in instead of considering a post-flush *** multi-stage alternate acid slickwater injection reduces or even eliminated the acid ***,it is recommended to inject a slickwater before well shut-in to reduce the rock-acid contact time,thus reducing the formation *** results also showed that the created fracture etched width decreases and the fracture etched length increases as the fracturing stages *** this study,because of the low carbonate layer permeability and compressive strength,a two-stage alternate 28%HCl and slickwater injection with a post-flush stage is recommended.

Several available mechanistic-empirical pavement design methods fail to include predictive model for permanent deformation(PD)of unbound granular materials(UGMs),which make these methods more *** addition,there are limited regression models capable of predicting the PD under multistress levels,and these models have regression limitations and generally fail to cover the complexity of UGM *** researches are focused on using new methods of computational intelligence systems to address the problems,such as artificial neural network(ANN).In this context,we aim to develop an artificial neural model to predict the PD of UGMs exposed to repeated *** repeated load triaxial tests(RLTTs)were conducted on base and subbase materials locally available in Victoria,Australia to investigate the PD properties of the tested materials and to prepare the database of the neural *** were prepared over different moisture contents and gradations to cover a wide testing *** ANN model consists of one input layer with five neurons,one hidden layer with twelve neurons,and one output layer with one *** five inputs were the number of load cycles,deviatoric stress,moisture content,coefficient of uniformity,and coefficient of *** sensitivity analysis showed that the most important indicator that impacts PD is the number of load cycles with influence factor of 41%.It shows that the ANN method is rapid and efficient to predict the PD,which could be implemented in the Austroads pavement design method.

Sound waves propagate well underwater making it useful for target locating and *** acoustic noise(UWAN)affects the reliability in applications where the noise comes from multiple *** this paper,a novel signal de-noising technique is proposed using *** the time-frequency representation,de-noising is performed using soft thresholding with universal threshold estimation which is then *** UWAN used for the validation is sea truth data collected at Desaru beach on the eastern shore of Johor in Malaysia with the use of broadband *** comparison is made with the more conventionally used wavelet transform de-noising *** types of signals are evaluated:fixed frequency signals and time-varying *** results demonstrate that the proposed method shows better signal to noise ratio(SNR)by 4 dB and lower root mean square error(RMSE)by 3 dB achieved at the Nyquist sampling frequency compared to the previously proposed de-noising method like wavelet transform.

Geomechanical properties have a prominent influence on reservoir stresses,which consequently reduce permeability and porosity with pressure *** properties significantly affect the accuracy of reservoir modeling and recovery calculation,but have not been fully studied;therefore,more work is *** field data and laboratory measurements are included in the *** work involves deriving an equation by combining experimental data for permeability and porosity reduction during a change in stress with the poroelastic stress equation to investigate the impact of Poisson's ratio and Young's modulus on the reduction of permeability and porosity with pressure *** simulation studies assume constant geomechanical properties across the entire reservoir or for each individual reservoir *** this study,three approaches were considered for the Poisson's ratio and Young's modulus in the reservoir model:1)constant average values assigned to the entire reservoir,2)constant average values assigned to each layer,and 3)constant values assigned to each grid *** validity of the model results was checked by history matching with production and pressure *** the studied tight reservoir,the Poisson's ratio and Young's modulus significantly affected the permeability and porosity reduction with pressure *** impact of Young's modulus was more pronounced than Poisson's *** simulation results for oil rate,cumulative oil production,and water cut for the reservoir and a selected well showed that applying the three suggested geomechanical approaches resulted in a substantial discrepancy in the model *** general,the coupled model with the mapped geomechanical properties resulted in lower oil and water *** is attributed to the large values of mapped Young's modulus in parts of the reservoir which resulted in large permeability reduction and subsequently lower oil and water production is *** contrast lower Young's mo

Repeated load triaxial test is used to assess the deformation behaviour of unbound granular materials(UGMs) in flexible road pavements. Repeated load pulse characteristics(i.e. shape, loading period and rest period) are the stress configurations used in the experimental set-up to simulate the passing axle loads. Some researchers and standard testing protocols suggest a rest period of varying durations after a loading phase. A thorough review of existing literature and practises has revealed that there is no agreement about the effect of the rest period of vertical stress pulse on the deformation behaviour of the UGMs. Therefore,the main objective of this study is to investigate the effect of repeated stress rest period on the deformation behaviour of UGMs experimentally. Experiments are conducted, both with and without rest period, using basalt and granite crushed rocks from Victoria, Australia. Furthermore, in order to gain insight into the effect of the rest period, finite element modelling is also developed. Both the experimental and modelling results show that the rest period has a noticeable effect on both resilient and permanent deformation behaviours of UGMs. It is, therefore, recommended to take extra precautions while adopting a particular standard testing protocol and to supplement the results by additional tests with different loading configurations.
