Background:National forest inventory and forest monitoring systems are more important than ever considering continued global degradation of trees and *** systems are especially important in a country like Bangladesh,which is characterised by a large population density,climate change vulnerability and dependence on natural *** the aim of supporting the Government’s actions towards sustainable forest management through reliable information,the Bangladesh Forest Inventory(BFI)was designed and implemented through three components:biophysical inventory,socio-economic survey and remote sensing-based land cover *** article documents the approach undertaken by the Forest Department under the Ministry of Environment,Forests and Climate Change to establish the BFI as a multipurpose,efficient,accurate and replicable national forest *** design,operationalization and some key results of the process are ***:The BFI takes advantage of the latest and most well-accepted technological and methodological ***,it was designed through a collaborative process which drew from the experience and knowledge of multiple national and international ***,1781 field plots were visited,6400 households were surveyed,and a national land cover map for the year 2015 was *** technological enhancements include a semi-automated segmentation approach for developing the wall-to-wall land cover map,an object-based national land characterisation system,consistent estimates between sample-based and mapped land cover areas,use of mobile apps for tree species identification and data collection,and use of differential global positioning system for referencing plot ***:Seven criteria,and multiple associated indicators,were developed for monitoring progress towards sustainable forest management goals,informing management decisions,and national and international reporting needs.A wide range of biophysica

Effect of Concentrate to Roughage Ratio on Cost Effective Growth Performance of Brahman Crossbred Calves

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the growth performance and cost per gain of Brahman × local crossbred bull calves receiving three diets with varying concentrate to roughage ratio （C：R） of 75：25, 65：35 and 55：45 on dry matter （DM） basis. Twelve bull calves （aging 11.5 ±1.2 months and 170.8 ± 13.0 kg live weight） divided into three equal groups were fed on three diets. The diets were balanced to 14.5% crude protein （CP） level and 10.5 MJ metabolizable energy （ME） per kg DM, formulating different concentrate mixtures. German grass （Echinoclora grousgali） and paddy straw were offered at 2：1 ratio on DM basis as roughages. The results revealed that C：R ratio did not affect （P 〉 0.05） the intake of feed and nutrients, feed efficiency （7.04, 6.94 and 6.76） and average daily gain （981,958 and 976 g）. Digestibility of nutrients was not affected （P 〉 0.05） by C：R. Animals fed diet with C：R = 55：45 had the lowest feed cost （Bangladeshi Taka 136.8 BDT/kg live weight gain）, which was increased （147.5 B DT and 153.8 BDT） non-significantly （P 〉 0.05） with the increasing level of concentrate. The diet consisting of 55% concentrate mixture showed similar results with the diet consisting of 75% concentrate mixture, but was comparatively economic. Therefore, considering the growth performance and cost per kg gain of Brahman crossbred growing calves, it may be concluded that the diet consisting of 55：45 C：R may be used for economic beef production.

Control of Transonic Shock Wave Oscillation over a Supercritical Airfoil

In the present study, a numerical investigation is carried out on the aerodynamic performance of a supercritical airfoil RAE 2822. Transonic flow fields are considered where self-excited shock wave oscillation prevails. To control the shock oscillation, a passive technique in the form of an open rectangular cavity is introduced on the upper surface of the airfoil where the shock wave oscillates. Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations have been used to predict the aerodynamic behavior of the baseline airfoil and airfoil with cavity at Mach number of 0.729 and at angle of attack of 5°. The aerodynamic characteristics of the baseline airfoil are well validated with the available experimental data. It is observed that the introduction of a cavity around the airfoil upper surface can completely stop the self-excited shock wave oscillation and successively improve the aerodynamic characteristics.

Social media,like Twitter,is a data repository,and people exchange views on global issues like the COVID-19 *** media has been shown to influence the low acceptance of *** work aims to identify public sentiments concerning the COVID-19 vaccines and better understand the individual’s sensitivities and feelings that lead to *** work proposes a method to analyze the opinion of an individual’s tweet about the COVID-19 *** paper introduces a sigmoidal particle swarm optimization(SPSO)***,the performance of SPSO is measured on a set of 12 benchmark problems,and later it is deployed for selecting optimal text features and categorizing *** proposed method uses TextBlob and VADER for sentiment analysis,CountVectorizer,and term frequency-inverse document frequency(TF-IDF)vectorizer for feature extraction,followed by SPSO-based feature *** Covid-19 vaccination tweets dataset was created and used for training,validating,and *** proposed approach outperformed considered algorithms in terms of ***,we augmented the newly created dataset to make it balanced to increase performance.A classical support vector machine(SVM)gives better accuracy for the augmented dataset without a feature selection *** shows that augmentation improves the overall accuracy of tweet *** the augmentation performance of PSO and SPSO is improved by almost 7%and 5%,respectively,it is observed that simple SVMwith 10-fold cross-validation significantly improved compared to the primary dataset.

Malaria is a disease that has drawn worldwide attention due to the alarming rise of mortality rates particularly in third world countries. During the Plasmodium parasite intraerythrocytic life cycle, metabolic processes include the formation of hemozoin or malaria pigment. This pigment functions in the prevention of oxygen radical-mediated damage to the parasite. Drugs targeting hemozoin formation such as chloroquine and amodaquine are effective and are still used, but recently Plasmodium parasites have become resistant to these drugs, especially against chloroquine. In this study we looked at the potential use of two heterocyclic pyrimidine derivatives as anti-malaria drugs; 2,4-Diamino-6-Mercaptopyrimidine （DAMP） and 2-Mercaptopyrimidine （2-MP）. These compounds bear various coordination sites that enable them to react with metal ions to form coordination compounds. We used two methods for testing the inhibition of ferriprotoporphyrin IX （FP） biomineralisation： semi-quantitative microassay used by Deharo, and a quantitative assay used by G. Blaner and M. Akkawi. We report here the finding that （DAMP） has an in vitro inhibitory effect on I%hematin formation at concentrations and magnitude of nearly similar order to that of chloroquine, 2-MP was found to be effective but to a lower degree than DAMP.

Effect of Preoperative Dutasteride on Bleeding Related to Transurethral Resection of Prostate in Patients with Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

Background: Transurethral resection of prostate (TURP) is the gold standard in the surgical treatment of symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Blood loss is one of the most common complications of TURP. Objective: To evaluate the effect of preoperative dutasteride on bleeding related to TURP in patients with BPH. Materials and Methods: This prospective interventional study was done in the department of urology, Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh during the period of July 2016 to June 2017. A total of 70 cases of BPH planned for TURP were included in this study according to the statistical calculation. Patients were randomly allocated to control group A (TURP without dutasteride) and dutasteride group B (TURP with dutasteride). Each group consisted of 35 patients. Group B patients were treated with dutasteride 0.5 mg/day for 4 weeks before TURP. The main outcome of blood loss was evaluated in terms of reduction in serum hemoglobin (Hb) and hematocrit (Hct) levels, which were measured before and 24 hours after surgery. Data were analyzed and compared by statistical tests. Results: Comparison of outcome between groups shows that there was a significant difference in term of pre-post operative change of hemoglobin and hematocrit levels in the control group A compared to the dutasteride group B (Hb = 2.96 ± 0.80 gm/dl vs. 1.81 ± 0.71 gm/dl, respectively, p = 0.001;Hct = 11.20% ± 2.12% vs. 6.07% ± 2.02%, respectively, p = 0.02). A significant lower mean blood loss was observed in the dutasteride group compared to the control group. Conclusion: Preoperative dutasteride therapy reduces blood loss related to TURP in patients with BPH. This therapy can be practiced to reduce surgical bleeding associated with TURP.

Wireless nodes are one of the main components in different applications that are offered in a smart *** wireless nodes are responsible to execute multiple tasks with different priority *** the wireless nodes have limited processing capacity,they offload their tasks to cloud servers if the number of tasks exceeds their task processing *** these tasks from remotely placed cloud servers causes a significant delay which is not required in sensitive task *** execution delay is reduced by placing fog computing nodes near these application nodes.A fog node has limited processing capacity and is sometimes unable to execute all the requested *** this work,an optimal task offloading scheme that comprises two algorithms is proposed for the fog nodes to optimally execute the time-sensitive offloaded *** first algorithm describes the task processing criteria for local computation of tasks at the fog nodes and remote computation at the cloud *** second algorithm allows fog nodes to optimally scrutinize the most sensitive tasks within their task *** results show that the proposed task execution scheme significantly reduces the execution time and most of the time-sensitive tasks are executed.

One of the challenging problems with evolutionary computing algorithms is to maintain the balance between exploration and exploitation capability in order to search global optima.A novel convergence track based adaptive differential evolution(CTbADE)algorithm is presented in this research *** crossover rate and mutation probability parameters in a differential evolution algorithm have a significant role in searching global optima.A more diverse population improves the global searching capability and helps to escape from the local optima *** the convergence path over time helps enhance the searching speed of a differential evolution algorithm for varying *** adaptive powerful parameter-controlled sequences utilized learning period-based memory and following convergence track over time are introduced in this *** proposed algorithm will be helpful in maintaining the equilibrium between an algorithm’s exploration and exploitation capability.A comprehensive test suite of standard benchmark problems with different natures,i.e.,unimodal/multimodal and separable/non-separable,was used to test the convergence power of the proposed CTbADE *** results show the significant performance of the CTbADE algorithm in terms of average fitness,solution quality,and convergence speed when compared with standard differential evolution algorithms and a few other commonly used state-of-the-art algorithms,such as jDE,CoDE,and EPSDE *** algorithm will prove to be a significant addition to the literature in order to solve real time problems and to optimize computationalmodels with a high number of parameters to adjust during the problem-solving process.

Climate Change and Anthropogenic Interferences for the Morphological Changes of the Padma River in Bangladesh

This research aims to identify the morphological changes of the Padma River due to the effects of anthropogenic climate change. The morphological changes were measured by aerial satellite images and their historical comparison, terrestrial survey, sedimentation in the riverbed, water flow, water discharge, siltation, and erosion along the river, etc. The Padma River has been analyzed over the period from 1971 to 2020 using multi-temporal Landsat images and long-term water flow data. The climatic parameters data related to temperature and rainfall were collected from 21 metrological stations distributed throughout Bangladesh over a 50-year period (1965-2015) to evaluate the magnitude of these changes statistically and spatially. The Padma, traditionally considered as a dominantly meandering river, is switching over into a braided river due to its highly susceptible nature of erosion and deposition. Results reveal that the tidal range is high during the dry season and increases from upstream to downstream of the river. Climate change may bring changes upstream by changing rainfall intensity, flood severity, and extreme temperature. More inundation can occur due to sedimentation, and more bank erosion can occur at the same time. An exponential increase of morphological activity with increased river flow, water discharge, bank erosion might substantially increase in the future. The changes in the flow introduced by climate change would impact the morphology of the Padma River of Bangladesh during the monsoon. A major change has been observed in the location of the bank and channel, as well as bars, along with their geometry and morphology over time. It is also observed that the bank line is not stable and migrated continuously. The overall width of the Padma River is varied significantly during the last 50 years. An Assessment of Aquifer Potential in and around a Proposed Well Field Area near Madunaghat, Chattogram Using Isotopic Techniques

The study was undertaken for understanding the potential of deep aquifers as a source of safe drinking water and for assessing the status of groundwater aquifer near Madunaghat area, Chattogram. The specific issues are salinity, interconnectivity of the shallow and deep aquifers, mixing of groundwater with the adjacent Halda river water, recharge condition and groundwater age. The isotopic data suggest that most of the groundwater results from a mixture between recent recharge and an older component recharge under climatic conditions cooler than at present. The interconnectivity between shallow aquifers and river waters are mostly found in the line wells installed particularly in shallow depth (16 m) close to Halda river as evidenced from the similar tritium values of sampled line well water with that of the Halda river water. The groundwater in Madunaghat well field area is not affected by salinity, as it is evidenced by higher values of Na/Cl ratio of the groundwater samples compared to the sea water fresh water mixing line. The geochemistry of intermediate and deep groundwater is dominated by Na-Mg-HCO3 and Na-HCO3 type waters. Even the relationship between chloride and oxygen-18 (Cl-δ18O) depicts that the waters from the deep, intermediate and shallow wells do not fall on the seawater mixing line. The Carbon-14 contents of intermediate to deep groundwater samples vary from 16.2 to 59.3 pMC indicating the residence time in the range of 4300 to 15,000 years BP, i.e., the sourced water recharged the aquifers a long time ago. The intermediate and deep wells have water with arsenic concentrations less than the detection limit of 3.0 μg/L. Only a few shallow wells have arsenic concentrations greater than the detection limit varying from 13.7 - 47.4 μg/L, which is less than the DoE permissible limit (50 μg/L) implying that the groundwater at Madunaghat area is not affected by Arsenic contamination.
