3-Bromopyruvate(3BP) is a new, promising anticancer alkylating agent with several notable functions. In addition to inhibiting key glycolysis enzymes including hexokinase II and lactate dehydrogenase(LDH), 3BP also selectively inhibits mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation, angiogenesis, and energy production in cancer cells. Moreover, 3BP induces hydrogen peroxide generation in cancer cells(oxidative stress effect) and competes with the LDH substrates pyruvate and lactate. there is only one published human clinical study showing that 3BP was effective in treating fibrolamellar hepatocellular carcinoma. LDH is a good measure for tumor evaluation and predicts the outcome of treatment better than the presence of a residual tumor mass. According to the Warburg effect, LDH is responsible for lactate synthesis, which facilitates cancer cell survival, progression, aggressiveness, metastasis, and angiogenesis. Lactate produced through LDH activity fuels aerobic cell populations inside tumors via metabolic symbiosis. In melanoma, the most deadly skin cancer, 3BP induced necrotic cell death in sensitive cells, whereas high glutathione(GSH) content made other melanoma cells resistant to 3BP. Concurrent use of a GSH depletor with 3BP killed resistant melanoma cells. Survival of melanoma patients was inversely associated with high serum LDH levels, which was reported to be highly predictive of melanoma treatment in randomized clinical trials. Here, we report a 28-year-old man presented with stage IV metastatic melanoma affecting the back, left pleura, and lung. the disease caused total destruction of the left lung and a high serum LDH level(4,283 U/L). After ethics committee approval and written patient consent, the patient received 3BP intravenous infusions(1-2.2 mg/kg), but the anticancer effect was minimal as indicated by a high serum LDH level. this may have been due to high tumor GSH content. Holographic Imaging of Argon Plasma Images

A coding and decoding process of argon plasma images using digital holography is proposed. the digital Fourier holography is applied to two images of matrix dimensions 512 × 512 pixels. the decoded images are improved using wiener filtering techniques. We have constructed three basic color images of the original image which is useful to extract the thermal distribution of the plasma image. Also, the profiles of the reconstructed images are checked showing better smooth profiles using wiener filter. the Mat-lab code is applied in the operation of image processing using Fourier techniques.

In this paper,waste clay was cured with ethyl acetate to obtain treated clay(tC),which was modified with gallic acid to obtain a low-cost sorbent that was characterized by EDX,SEM,and FtIR ***(Ⅵ)adsorption was achieved using the batch adsorption method on the tC and gallic acid-modified treated clay(GMtC).the maximum uptakes of U(Ⅵ)on tC and GMtC were 37.2 and 193.0 mg/g,*** U(Ⅵ)adsorption kinetics on the tC and GMtC sorbents were well-fitted by the pseudo-second-order mechanism,and the adsorption equilibrium followed the Langmuir *** optimum parameters were applied to El Sela leach solution for uranium recovery.

the Prevalence and Clinical Manifestations of Co-Infection in Pediatric Infectious Mononucleosis: A Single-Centered, Retrospective Study

Background: Recent studies indicate that the incidence of infectious mononucleosis (IM) has increased in China. Furthermore, it has been shown that children diagnosed with IM are prone to acquiring other pathogens. However, there is limited research on the prevalence of these co-infections in children with IM. thus, we conducted this study to determine the prevalence of coinfections and common pathogens, as well as to compare clinical manifestations in children with and without coinfections. Methods: this retrospective observational study was conducted at the Department of Pediatrics Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, Wuhan, China, with data from January 2018 to January 2023. Data, including demographics, symptoms, lab results, and complications, were collected from the hospital’s electronic database and analyzed. the statistical analysis included descriptive statistics, independent samples t-tests and Mann-Whitney tests to compare the means of continuous variables. Statistical significance was determined by p-values less than 0.05. Results: the study involved 216 participants diagnosed with IM, predominantly males (61.6%) aged 0 - 4 years (50.9%). Coinfection was detected in 39.8% of children, with multiple pathogens present in 33.72% of these cases. Among coinfection cases, 40% occurred in children under 5 years old, and females made up 54.2% of these cases. Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP) was the most prevalent pathogen, accounting for 18.1% of cases. Influenza B (IFB) and Influenza A (IFA) viruses were found in 16.7% and 13.9% of participants, respectively, indicating a notable occurrence of respiratory pathogen coinfections. Male gender, fever, tonsillopharyngitis, lower HGB levels, higher ESR, CRP, and ASt levels were correlated with coinfections. Conclusion: In summary, the study revealed a high prevalence of coinfections among children diagnosed with IM, particularly involving Mycoplasma pneumoniae and influenza viruses. these coinfections were notably

Effectiveness and safety of generic and brand direct acting antivirals for treatment of chronic hepatitis C

Objective: Mucoepidermoid carcinoma(MEC) is the most common primary malignancy of the salivary glands. Insulin-like growth factor-II m RNA-binding protein-3(IMP3) is an important prognostic factor in some cancers and a tool that differentiates between benign and malignant pancreatic lesions. this study aimed to identify a relationship between the expression of IMP3 and the outcome of salivary gland MEC, as well as to differentiate MEC from pleomorphic adenoma(PA).Methods: tissue specimens from 70 cases of salivary gland MEC, 40 cases of PA, and 10 cases with normal salivary gland were examined immunohistochemically for IMP3. the association among the expression of IMP3, clinicopathological characteristics and patient's survival was ***: IMP3 was present in 51.4% of MEC but absent in PA and normal salivary gland tissues. IMP3 expression was associated with age > 60 years, submandibular gland tumors, tumor size > 4 cm, high-grade tumors, lymph node metastasis, involvement of surgical margins, perineural invasion, distant metastasis, advanced tNM stage, tumor relapse, and death(Ptumors of the submandibular gland, and lymph node metastasis were independent prognostic factors of disease-free survival(DFS). In addition, IMP3 was a strong predictor of overall survival(OS) together with distant metastasis and intermediate and high-grade ***: IMP3 expression is highly important in evaluating the outcome of MEC. IMP3 can be used to differentiate MEC from PA of salivary glands.

Management and treatment of Hepatocellular Carcinoma with Immunotherapy:A Review of Current and Future Options

With mortality rates of liver cancer doubling in the last 20 years, this disease is on the rise and has become the fifth most common cancer in men and the seventh most common cancer in women. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) represents approximately 90% of all primary liver cancers and is a major global health concern. Patients with HCC can be managed curatively with surgical resection or with liver transplantation, if they are diagnosed at an early stage. Unfortunately, most patients with HCC present with ad-vanced stages of the disease and have underlying liver dysfunction, which allows only 15%of patients to be eligible for curative treatment. Several different treatment modal-ities are available, including locoregional therapy radiofre-quency ablation, microwave ablation, percutaneous ethanol injection, trans-arterial chemoembolization, transarterial radio-embolization, cryoablation, radiation therapy, stereo-tactic radiotherapy, systemic chemotherapy, molecularly targeted therapies, and immunotherapy. Immunotherapy has recently become a promising method for inhibiting HCC tumor progression, recurrence, and metastasis. the term"Immunotherapy"is a catch-all, encompassing a wide range of applications and targets, including HCC vaccines, adoptive cell therapy, immune checkpoint inhibitors, and use of oncolytic viruses to treat HCC. Immunotherapy in HCC is a relatively safe option for treating patients with advanced disease in the USA who are either unable to receive or failed sorafenib/lenvatinib therapy and thus may offer an addi-tional survival benefit for these patients. the purpose of this review is to elaborate on some of the most recent advance-ments in immunotherapy.

Introducing a proper hydrogen liquefaction concept for using wasted heat of thermal power plants-case study: Parand gas power plant

A hydrogen liquefaction concept with an innovative configuration and a capacity of 4 kg·s^(-1)(345.6 t·d^(-1))is *** concept involves an ammonia absorption refrigeration system for the pre-cooling of hydrogen and MR streams from 25℃ to-30℃.the ammonia absorption refrigeration system is fed by exhaust gases of the Pa rand gas power plant that are normally dissipated to the environment with a temperature of 546℃.the simulation is performed by Aspen HYSYS V9.0,using two separate equations of state for simulating hydrogen and MR streams to gain more accurate results especially for ortho-para *** show that conversion enthalpy estimated by Aspen HYSYS,fits very well to the experimental *** the important independent variables and composition of MRs are done using trial and error procedure,a functional and straightforward method for complicated *** minimum temperature limit in the cooling section is lowered,and an ortho-para converter is implemented in this *** proposed concept performs well from energy aspects and leads to COP and SEC equal to 0.271 and 4.54 kW·h·kg^(-1),*** main advantage of this study is in the low SEC,eliminating the losses of the distribution network,and improving the ability of the hydrogen liquefaction for energy storage in off-peak times.
