Ballistic design and testing of a com.osite arm.ur reinforced by CNTs suitable for arm.ured vehicles

This paper is investigating the use of com.osite arm.ur reinforced by nanom.terials, for the protection of light arm.ured(LAV) and m.dium.arm.ured m.litary vehicles(m.V), and the interaction between the com.osite m.terials and high-perform.nce ballistic projectiles. Four arm.ur m.terials, consisted of front hybrid fibre reinforced polym.r cover layer, ceram.c strike-face, fibre reinforced polym.r interm.diate layer and the m.tal m.trix com.osite reinforced backplate, were m.nufactured and assem.led by adhesive technology. The proposed lam.nated protection system.is suitable for arm.ured ground vehicles;however, it could be used as arm.ur on ground, air and naval platform.. The design of the protection system. including m.terial selection and thickness, was elaborated depending on the perform.nce requirem.nts of Level 4 + STANAG 4569 m.litary standard(projectile 14.5 m. × 114 m. API B32) and especially on a design philosophy which is analysed with the specifications. The backplate of this new com.osite is a hybrid m.terial of m.tal m.trix Com.osite(m.C) reinforced with carbon nanotubes(CNTs), m.nufactured with the use of powder m.tallurgy technique. The com.osite backplate m.terial was m.rphologically, m.chanically and chem.cally analysed. Results show that all plates are presenting high m.chanical properties and ballistic characteristics, com.ared to com.only used arm.ur plates. Real m.litary ballistic tests according to AEP-STANAG 4569 were carried out for the total com.osite arm.ur system.. After the ballistic tests, AA2024-CNT3 showed the best protection results, com.ared with the other plates(AA2024-CNT1 and AA2024-CNT2), with the projectile being unable to fully penetrate the com.osite plate.

Correlation between Wnt Signalling Inhibitors (Dickkopf-1 & Sclerostin) and the Intim.l m.dial Thickness in Children on m.intenance Hem.dialysis

Background: Wnt signalling inhibitors (Dickkopf-1 and Sclerostin) signalling play a role in vascular developm.nt and m.y contribute to calcification. Aim. To investigate the association between Dickkopf-1 and sclerostin serum.concentrations in children undergoing m.intenance hem.dialysis with intim.l m.dial thickness and peak systolic velocity of the m.in arteries. Patients and m.thods: A study was conducted on 40 children undergoing m.intenance hem.dialysis and controls of the sam. age and sex. The study m.asured the initial m.dial thickness (Im.) and peak systolic velocity (PSV) of the m.in vessels (carotid, ulnar, and fem.ral). Dickkopf-1 and sclerostin serum.levels in both groups were assessed, and a routine investigation was perform.d. Results: The findings indicate that the levels of serum.Dickkopf-1 and Sclerostin were significantly higher in the hem.dialysis group 2540.65 (2215.4 - 2909.2 pg/m.) and 1.17 (0.85 - 2.03 ng/m.)respectively (P = 0.001), com.ared to their control group it was 1110.45 (885.45 - 1527.65 pg/m.) and 0.28 (0.25 - 0.32 ng/m.)) respectively P = 0.001. Additionally, there was a significant increase in intim.-m.dia thickness (Im.) with a decrease in peak systolic velocity (PSV) in the m.in blood vessels, including the carotid, ulnar, and fem.ral arteries. A significant correlation was also observed between Dickkopf-1 and sclerostin levels and Im. of the carotid, ulnar, and fem.ral arteries. Conclusion: Wnt signalling inhibitors (Dickkopf-1 and Sclerostin) exert effects beyond the bone and significantly contribute to early vascular calcification in pediatric patients undergoing m.intenance hem.dialysis.

BACKGROUND Childhood bronchial asthm.(BA)is a chronic inflam.atory respiratory *** conditions,including zinc deficiency,can affect such allergic *** To outline the difference in serum.zinc levels between asthm.tic children and healthy *** A cross-sectional study was carried out at Children’s Hospital,Cairo University,investigating serum.zinc levels in children with BA(n=40)and healthy children(n=21).Other m.rkers included serum.ferritin,iron,hem.globin(Hb),and im.unoglobulin E(IgE)*** t-tests and m.nn-Whinny tests were used for *** Kruskal-Wallis test was applied to com.are serum.ferritin and IgE levels with regard to asthm. ***'s rank correlation was perform.d to explore the relationship between serum.ferritin levels and both iron and Hb levels in asthm.tic *** Children with BA had higher levels of zinc,yet the difference was not significant(P=0.115).Serum.ferritin and IgE levels were significantly higher in asthm.tic children(P=0.006 and 0.001,respectively),yet their levels did not differ significantly by severity(P=0.623 and 0.126,respectively).There was a nonsignificant weak correlation between serum.ferritin levels and both serum.iron and Hb *** Serum.zinc levels do not seem.to differ between asthm.tic children and healthy *** ferritin levels m.y be a m.rker of asthm. *** IgE levels are not m.rkers of asthm. severity.

Due to their therm.l perform.nce,dom.d roofs are one of the passive solutions that affect energy consum.tion in *** therm.l perform.nce of dom.d roofs has been investigated in m.ny naturally ventilated ***,few studies have discussed their perform.nce in conditioned ***,this study introduces a com.utational com.arison between dom.d and flat roofs to investigate their im.act on therm.l com.ort inside a conditioned *** an earlier stage,field m.asurem.nts were carried out inside a Bahraini m.sque to acquire its indoor air conditions during the sum.er period of 2021,in addition to validating the com.utational *** findings of this study confirm.that,under m.chanical cooling conditions,the flat roof offers a lower indoor tem.erature than the dom.d roof by 0.4℃and 0.1℃for open and closed doors,***,the air velocity is lower by approxim.tely 0.01 m.s for both door *** overall Pm. values of the flat roof are also lower by 0.07 and 0.01,while the PPD values are lower by 0.20,and 0.34 for open and closed doors,*** on these sm.ll differences,it can be concluded that the therm.l perform.nce of both roofing system. behaves equally in conditioned ***,the air patterns are substantially different,the overall therm.l perform.nce is *** sim.larity drives building designers to rethink the therm.l perform.nce of the dom.d roofs in air-conditioned spaces with such a hot clim.te,regardless of their aesthetic and acoustical behaviour.

Recently,nano-system. based on m.lecular com.unications via diffusion(m.vD)have been im.lem.nted in a variety of nanom.dical applications,m.st notably in targeted drug delivery system.TDDS)***,because the m.vD is unreliable and there exists m.lecular noise and inter sym.ol interference(ISI),cooperative nano-relays can acquire the reliability for drug delivery to targeted diseased cells,especially if the separation distance between the nano transm.tter and nano receiver is *** this work,we propose an approach for optim.zing the perform.nce of the nano system.using cooperative m.lecular com.unications with a nano relay schem.,while accounting for blood flow effects in term. of drift *** fractions of the m.lecular drug that should be allocated to the nano transm.tter and nano relay positioning are com.uted using a collaborative optim.zation problem.solved by them.dified Central Force Optim.zation(m.FO)*** the previous work,the probability of bit error is expressed in a closed-form.*** is used as an objective function to determ.ne the optim.l velocity of the drug m.lecules and the detection threshold at the nano *** sim.lation results show that the probability of bit error can be dram.tically reduced by optim.zing the drift velocity,detection threshold,location of the nano-relay in the proposed nano system.and m.lecular drug budget.
