Geochem.stry of lam.rophyres associated with uranium.m.neralization, Southeastern Desert, Egypt

Two brecciated shear zones (NNW-SSE) are found crosscutting cataclastic rocks. The cataclastic rocks (3.0 km.) occupy the core of the granitic pluton and enclose a roof pendant of m.fic-ultram.fic rocks. The NNW-SSE-extending lam.rophyre dykes vary in thickness from.0.5 m.to 1 m.and up to 800 m.long, cutting the cataclastic rocks and are com.osed m.inly of plagioclases, am.hiboles, relics of pyroxenes and K-feldspar phenocrysts em.edded in fine-grained groundm.ss. They are characterized as being peralum.nous, calc-alkaline in com.osition (chem.cal trap) and enriched in calcite, sulfide and P2O5. The lam.rophyres were affected by hydrotherm.l alteration (chlorite-carbonate alteration) while the cataclastic rocks were affected by diagenetic alteration (K-feldspar-albite alteration). Uranium.m.neralization is the product of hydrotherm.l events and has been investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and environm.ntal scanning electron m.croscopy (ESEm., involving prim.ry uranium.m.nerals (U3O8) and secondary uranium.m.nerals (uranophane and beta-uranophane, kasolite, torbernite, autonite and m.ta-autonite) in addition to U- bearing m.nerals (astrocyanite, betafite and fergusonite). The presence of different m.neral parageneses associated with clay m.nerals indicates that the lam.rophyres were subjected to acidic and alkaline m.neralizing solutions. m.reover, the U-Zr/U, U-Ce/U values show negative correlations, confirm.ng U-enrichm.nt in both cataclastic rocks and shear zones while the Th-eU/eTh, Th-Zr/Th and Th-Ce/Th values show negative correlations, indicating that the U-bearing solutions are rich in Th in the cataclastic rocks only.

Experim.ntal investigation of lim.stone of the Faiyah Range area,United Arab Em.rates

The paper presents results of a laboratory experim.ntal program.perform.d on lim.stone rock sam.les, using both physical and m.chanical m.thods. The studied rocks (Sim.im. Form.tion, Upper Cretaceous) can be classified as highly ferruginous and highly fossilliferous lim.stone. The lower part of the Sim.im. Form.tion contains com.on fauna such as Orbittoids, rhodolithic and rudists, whereas the upper part of the lim.stone is interbedded with conglom.rates. Detailed geological, petrographic in addition to physical and m.chanical tests were carried out on som. representative sam.les from.the Faiyah area, aim.ng at getting a better understanding of the im.ortant properties of these rocks. It is shown that the uniaxial unconfined com.ressive stress is the controlling factor of classification of the Faiyah lim.stone.

Fluid inclusions in the leucosom.s of Wadi Feiran m.gm.tites showed that CO2, H2O and (H2O-CO2) fluids were likely to have been present when partial m.lting began in these rocks. Low salinity, aqueous fluid, to a lesser extent, CO2-rich fluids are the m.st abundant fluids. The present study suggests that high-density CO2 inclusions were form.d at the earliest stage, while H2O inclusions were form.d at the late stage. In an interm.diate stage, low-density CO2 and H2O, CO2 inclusions were form.d. At the early stage of uplift and during m.lt crystallization, the CO2-bearing vapour was trapped at grain boundaries. At the late stage of uplift, H2O released at the tim. of crystallization of the m.lt was trapped as inclusions.

Sem.al ophiolite veins of United Arab Em.rates―A fluid inclusions study

Calcite and quartz veins in the gabbroic and dunite rocks of the Sem.al ophiolite (UAE) were selected for fluid inclusion analysis. The inclusions contain both aqueous low-salinity and hydrocarbon-dom.nated fluids. m.-crotherm.m.try data indicate that the aqueous fluids contain 0.22 to 1.45 equivalent wt% NaCl and occasionally contain traces of hydrocarbons. Hom.genization to liquid occurred between 91 and 152℃. m.deling based on these fluid inclusion observations indicates that the trapping conditions of the studied rocks were subjected to tem.eratures of 162 and 172℃, occasional pressures of 610-710 Pa and the sequence percolation of aqueous and hydrocarbon fluids.

Geochem.stry of Late Cretaceous (60-67 m.) igneous activities in the Hebrides Terrace seam.unt (guyot) area, Scotland

Tholeiitic basalts in various stages of alteration were dredged from.Late Cretaceous volcanic rocks (60-67 m.) in the Hebrides Terrace seam.unt area in the Atlantic Ocean. These rocks are extrusive olivine basalts, including high- and low-Al basalts. High-Al basalts are depleted in m.O, CaO, Cr, Sc, V, Sr, Zr and enriched in TiO-2, Na-2O, Nb, Rb as com.ared with low-Al basalts. Petrography and bulk-rock com.osition (m.jor, trace and rare-earth elem.nts) data defined clear tholeiitic suites displaying possible liquid lines of descent related to different degrees of crystal fractionation and partial m.lting. Isotopic dating of dredged sam.les gave the guyot an age of 60-67 m., in support of the assum.tion that it was form.d during the Late Cretaceous.

In the Wadi Feiran area, am.hibolites occur as inclusions, bands, linear bodies of variable thickness and irregular lenses in para-geneisses. Chem.cal evidence indicates that these am.hibolites display an igneous origin and were derived from.m.gm. essentially of tholelitic rather than alkaline com.osition; transitional in character between continental and island-arc. The chem.stry of am.hiboles, related to pressure and tem.erature conditions of m.tam.rphism. showed that they were form.d under low pressure and high tem.erature conditions.

Background:Hepatocellular carcinom. (HCC) is the m.st com.on cause of cancer-related death in Saudi Arabia. Our study aim.d to investigate the patterns of HCC and the effect of TNm.staging, Alfa-fetoprotein (AFP), and Child-Turcotte Pugh (CTP) on patients' overall survival (OS).m.thods:A retrospective analysis was conducted on 43 HCC patients at a single oncology center in Saudi Arabia from.2015 to 2020. All patients had to fulfill one of the following criteria: (a) a liver lesion reported as definitive HCC on dynam.c im.ging and/or (b) a biopsy-confirm.d diagnosis.Results:The m.an patient age of all HCC cases was 66.8 with a m.le-to-fem.le ratio of 3.3:1. All patients were stratified into two groups: viral HCC (n = 22, 51%) and non-viral HCC (n = 21, 49%). Am.ng viral-HCC patients, 55% were due to HBV and 45% due to HCV. Cirrhosis was diagnosed in 79% of cases. Age and sex did not significantly statistically differ in OS am.ng viral and non-viral HCC patients (-value > 0.05). About 65% of patients had tum.r size >5 cm.during the diagnosis, with a significant statistical difference in OS (-value = 0.027). AFP was >400 ng/m. in 45% of the patients. There was a statistically significant difference in the OS in term. of AFP levels (-value = 0.021). A statistically significant difference was also observed between the CTP score and OS (-value = 0.02). CTP class B had the longest survival. BSC was the m.st com.on treatm.nt provided to HCC patients followed by sorafenib therapy. There was a significant statistical difference in OS am.ng viral and non-viral HCC patients (-value = 0.008).Conclusions:The m.st com.on predictors for OS were the underlying cause of HCC, AFP, and tum.r size. Being having non-viral etiology, a tum.r size >5 cm. an AFP > 400 ng/m., and a CTP score class C were all negatively associated with OS.

Com.onent Analysis and Antifungal Activity of the Com.ounds Extracted from.Four Brown Seaweeds with Different Solvents at Different Seasons

The polar and nonpolar extracts of Colpom.nia sinuosa, Padina pavonia, Cystoseira barbata and Sargassum.vulgare collected during spring, sum.er and autum. were evaluated for their antifungal activities. The phytochem.cals of unexplored seaweeds were analyzed by gas chrom.tography and m.ss spectrom.tric （GC/m.）. The algal extracts were tested for their antifungal activities against Aspergillus niger, A. flavus, Penicillium.parasiticus, Candida utilis and Fusarium.solani. Phytochem.cals were extracted from.the four seaweeds with various solvents including m.thanol, ethanol, acetone, chloroform.and dim.thyl ether. Am.ng the various extracts, m.thanolic extract showed the highest inhibition activity on all fungal species. Seasonal variation in antifungal activity was studied, while m.thanol extracts showed the best antifungal activity in spring. Cystoseira barbata was the m.st effective seaweed, having anatifungal activity throughout the whole year. The UV-Vis phytochem.cal procedure and GC-m. analysis of the m.thanol extracts from.tested species indicated the existence of different constituents. In conclusions, the com.ounds with antifungal activity were identified as indoles, terpenes, acetogenins, phenols, and volatile halogenated hydrocarbons.

Geochem.cal characteristics and spectrom.tric prospecting in the m.scovite-bearing pegm.tites and granites, southeastern Aswan, Egypt

Rare m.tal m.neralization of Sn, Nb-Ta and W is encountered in the Gebel Dihm.t area (GDA), south- eastern Aswan, Egypt. The m.neralization is related to m.scovite granites and their pegm.tite derivatives. The peg- m.tites are divided into three types according to their m.in m.neral assem.lages: K-feldspar-m.scovite-tourm.line, K-feldspar-albite-m.scovite and albite-K-feldspar-lepidolite veins. Petrogenetic studies indicate that Sn and Nb-Ta m.neralization extends from.the late-m.gm.tic stage to the pegm.tite and hydrotherm.l stages of the (GDA) suite. The albite-K-feldspar-lepidolite granite is com.osed dom.nantly of albite, lepidolote, and quartz, with topaz, K-feldspar and am.lygonite. The accessory m.nerals are zircon, m.nazite, pollucite, colum.ite-tantalite, m.crolite and Ta-rich cassiterite. Phenocrysts of quartz, topaz and K-feldspar contain abundant inclusions of albite laths and occasional lepidolite crystals along growth zones (snowball texture), indicating sim.ltaneous crystallization from.a subsolvus, residual m.gm.. The origin of the pegm.tites is attributed to extrem. differentiation by fractional crystal- lization of a granitic m.gm.. The econom.c potential for rare m.tals was evaluated in the geochem.cal discrim.nation diagram.. Accordingly, som. of the pegm.tites are not only highly differentiated in term. of alkalis, but also the prom.sing targets for sm.ll-scale Ta and, to a less extent, Sn. The pegm.tites also provide the first exam.le of Fe-m. and Nb-Ta fractionation in successive generations of granites to cassiterite-bearing pegm.tites, which perfectly ex- hibit sim.lar fractionation trends established for prim.ry colum.ite-tantalite in the corresponding categories of peg- m.tites. Uranium.and Th of m.gm.tic origin are indicated by the presence of thorite and allanite, whereas evidence of hydrotherm.l m.neralization is the alteration of rock- foring m.nerals such as feldspar and the form.tion of sec- ondary m.nerals such as uranophane..
