Background: In Africa, female genital mutilation (FGM) is a widespread and harmful practice, with Somalia having the highest incidence at 98%. This practice has severe and long-lasting physical and mental health consequences. The aim of the study was to evaluate the different types of FGM;immediate and long-term complications associated with the practice, and identify factors related to its prevalence. Method: In a one-year cross-sectional hospital-based study, data were collected from females aged 18 - 50 with a history of FGM. Face-to-face semi-structured questionnaires were used for data collection. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 26, utilizing univariate and bivariate analyses to identify correlations between variables, which were presented in tables. Results: In a study involving 255 female participants, 65.5% were between 18 and 30 years old. The majority (82.7%) were married, while 47.1% were illiterate. FGM cases were more prevalent in rural areas (61.6%). Among the participants, 45.1% were employed. Type 3 FGM was the most common (44.3%), followed by Type 2 (32.2%) and Type 1 (23.9%). In terms of short-term complications experienced by circumcised women, the most common were bleeding, reported by 29.8% of participants, followed by infection (25.1%), and urinary retention (19.2%). Among the long-term complications observed, recurrent vaginal infections were the most prevalent, affecting 29.8% of the surveyed females. This was episiotomy during delivery (22.3%) and genital scarring (10.2%). Conclusion: The study reveals that Type 3 FGM is highly prevalent among the surveyed females, contributing to an increased risk of recurrent vaginal infections, prolonged second stage of labor, higher likelihood of episiotomy during delivery, and genital scarring. These findings emphasize the urgent need for effective preventive strategies and implementation from both international and local organizations to eliminate the harmful practice of FGM.

Prevalence of Mastitis and Associated Risk Factors in Lactating Camels (Camelus Dromedarius) on Dairy Farms in Benadir Region, Somalia

The study took a comprehensive approach to understanding mastitis in lactating camels, a disease that significantly impacts milk quantity and quality. This complex and multifactorial disease poses a significant challenge to dairy camel farming, particularly in Somalia. The studys objective was to determine the prevalence of mastitis and the risk factors associated with it among lactating camels on dairy farms in Benadir, Somalia. To achieve this, a cross-sectional study was conducted from May to September 2022 in the Benadir region of Somalia. A total of 96 lactating camels underwent examination using the California Mastitis Test (CMT) to identify clinical and subclinical mastitis cases. Additionally, a questionnaire survey was conducted among 20 farm employees/owners to gather information on hygiene practices, parity, lactation stage, tick infestation, and the presence of udder/teat lesions. Data regarding parity and lactation stage were obtained through owner interviews. The data collected on specifically designed forms were recorded and entered into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet for analysis using SPSS version 20 statistical software, ensuring a comprehensive and reliable analysis of the data. The studys findings revealed a significant prevalence of camel mastitis, with 34.4% (33/96) of lactating camels affected and clinical and subclinical cases constituting 5.2% and 29.2%, respectively. Quarter-level prevalence was 46.3%, with clinical and subclinical mastitis at 4.7% and 41.6%, respectively. The study also identified significant associations (P < 0.05) among risk factors such as stage of lactation, parity, and age, indicating a higher susceptibility to mastitis in older camels during early lactation compared to those in late lactation and younger camels. Introduction: Healthcare workers in Mogadishu, Somalia face significant occupational injury risks, particularly needle stick injuries, with 61.1% reporting incidents. This poses a serious threat to their health, leading to infections such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV. Despite the high prevalence of injuries, awareness of Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) accessibility is relatively high, with 84.0% of respondents aware of it. However, there are gaps in knowledge and implementation, as evidenced by variations in availability of PEP. Improving workplace safety measures, providing comprehensive training on injury prevention and PEP protocols, and ensuring consistent availability of PEP in healthcare facilities are crucial steps to safeguard the well-being of healthcare workers in Mogadishu, Somalia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among hospital workers in Mogadishu, Somalia, focusing on professionals from various healthcare facilities. The study targeted nurses, doctors, laboratory personnel, and pharmacists. Purposive sampling was employed, resulting in a sample size of 383 calculated using Fisher’s sample size formula. Data were collected using coded questionnaires entered into Microsoft Excel 2019 and analyzed with SPSS software to generate frequencies and proportions, presented through frequency tables and pie figures. Results: The study in Mogadishu, Somalia, examined the prevalence of occupational injuries and knowledge of Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) accessibility among healthcare workers. Findings indicate a high prevalence of injuries, with 61.1% reporting incidents, predominantly needle stick injuries (60.6%). Despite the majority seeking prompt medical attention (72.0%), work-related illnesses affected 53.2% of respondents, notably work-related stress (59.5%). Contagious bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP) is an infectious and highly contagious respiratory disease of cattle and water buffalo, caused by the Mycoplasma mycoides subspecies mycoides. It induces significant economic losses and leads to a severe livestock production problem, negatively influencing people’s livelihoods of affected countries. In Somalia, there is no updated data on the prevalence and distribution of the disease. Hence, a descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted from September 2022 to June 2023 in different villages under the Afgoye District of lower Shabelle region, Somalia. The main purpose of this study is to assess the sero-prevalence and identify the associated risk factors for the occurrence of the disease. In this study, villages, age, sex, breed, and body condition were considered as risk factors. A total of 90 blood samples were collected and tested in the laboratory using the Anti-CBPP Elisa kit test. Out of 90 serum samples from herd cattle, 32 were positive, resulting in an overall prevalence of 35.5%. In addition, we found a statistically significant variation between the prevalence of the disease and factors such as sex, age, body condition and breeds. In summary, the overall prevalence of Contagious bovine pleuropneumonia in this study area is worth to be considered because there is a low quality of health care and less awareness of the Contagious bovine Pleuropneumonia effects on herds, which warrants the official authorities to act and follow appropriate preventive and control measures to reduce the incidence of the disease and generate appropriate controlling and prevention measures in all regions of Somalia.

While the peripheral nervous system has the capacity to regenerate following a nerve injury,it is often at a slow rate and results in unsatisfactory recovery,leaving patients with reduced *** regeneration associated genes have been identified over the years,which may shed some insight into how we can manipulate this intrinsic regenerative ability to enhance repair following peripheral nerve *** lab has identified the membrane bound protease beta-site amyloid precursor protein-cleaving enzyme 1（BACE1）,or beta secretase,as a potential negative regulator of peripheral nerve *** beta secretase activity levels are abolished via a null mutation in mice,peripheral regeneration is enhanced following a sciatic nerve crush ***,when activity levels are greatly increased by overexpressing beta secretase in mice,nerve regeneration and functional recovery are impaired after a sciatic nerve crush *** addition to our work,many substrates of beta secretase have been found to be involved in regulating neurite outgrowth and some have even been identified as regeneration associated *** this review,we set out to discuss BACE1 and its substrates with respect to axonal regeneration and speculate on the possibility of utilizing BACE1 inhibitors to enhance regeneration following acute nerve injury and potential uses in peripheral neuropathies.

本文讨论了联合国对索马里冲突解决的影响。与许多其他非洲国家人口构成不同的是,绝大多数的索马里人都是单一的、相同的种族团体。所有的索马里人都是穆斯林,他们有着共同的语言和文化。可尽管如此,非洲最可怕的内战却已经在这个国家发生了二十多年。自从已故独裁者—穆罕默德·西亚德·巴雷（mohamed Siad Barre）将军于1991年被罢免以来,索马里就一直没有正常运转的中央政府。这项研究分析了索马里冲突的根源,并分析了过去20年间努力实现和平过程中面临的一些障碍。这些障碍中,邻国的利益、大国利益的缺失,资源的匮乏以及军阀对和平无意是继续困扰索马里和平进程的主要因素。在分析以往努力为何失败的基础上,论文提出了解决索马里冲突的解决方案:首先,深入分析并找出索马里崩塌的根本原因;其次对索马里各政治派别进行调解,让它们相互之间和平共处;第三,我们必须留意非洲联盟在维护非洲地区安全上的优势,以及发展集体力量解决索马里冲突;最后要切断外国干涉的渗透,坚决抵制外国干涉。只有索马里的国际组织,国家和地方不同政治派别三方齐心协力、共同努力解决索马里的冲突,索马里才会有稳定和繁荣的未来,索马里人民才会过上幸福的生活。

Axonal regeneration and sprouting as a potential therapeutic target for nervous system disorders

Nervous system disorders are prevalent health issues that will only continue to increase in frequency as the population ***-back axonopathy is a hallmark of many neurologic diseases and leads to axonal disconnection from their targets,which in turn leads to functional *** the course of many of neurologic diseases,axons can regenerate or sprout in an attempt to reconnect with the target and restore synapse *** amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS),distal motor axons retract from neuromuscular junctions early in the disease-course before significant motor neuron *** is evidence of compensatory motor axon sprouting and reinnervation of neuromuscular junctions in ALS that is usually quickly overtaken by the disease *** drugs that enhance compensatory sprouting and encourage reinnervation may slow symptom progression and retain muscle function for a longer period of time in ALS and in other diseases that exhibit dying-back *** remain many outstanding questions as to the impact of distinct disease-causing mutations on axonal outgrowth and regeneration,especially in regards to motor neurons derived from patient induced pluripotent stem *** microfluidic chambers are powerful tools for studying the distal axons of human induced pluripotent stem cells-derived motor neurons,and have recently been used to demonstrate striking regeneration defects in human motor neurons harboring ALS disease-causing *** the human neuromuscular circuit with human induced pluripotent stem cells-derived motor neurons will be critical for developing drugs that enhance axonal regeneration,sprouting,and reinnervation of neuromuscular *** this review we will discuss compensatory axonal sprouting as a potential therapeutic target for ALS,and the use of compartmentalized microfluidic devices to find drugs that enhance regeneration and axonal sprouting of motor axons.

Anomaly Detection in ICS Datasets with Machine Learning Algorithms

An Intrusion Detection System (IDS) provides a front-line defensemechanism for the Industrial Control System (ICS) dedicated to keeping the process operations running continuously for 24 hours in a day and 7 days in a week.A well-known ICS is the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)system. It supervises the physical process from sensor data and performs remotemonitoring control and diagnostic functions in critical infrastructures. The ICScyber threats are growing at an alarming rate on industrial automation applications. Detection techniques with machine learning algorithms on public datasets,suitable for intrusion detection of cyber-attacks in SCADA systems, as the firstline of defense, have been detailed. The machine learning algorithms have beenperformed with labeled output for prediction classification. The activity trafficbetween ICS components is analyzed and packet inspection of the dataset is performed for the ICS network. The features of flow-based network traffic areextracted for behavior analysis with port-wise profiling based on the data baseline,and anomaly detection classification and prediction using machine learning algorithms are performed.

The distinction of radiation-induced brain necrosis (RBN) and recurrent glioblastoma multiform (rGBM) remains a diagnostic challenge due to their similarly on routine follow-up imaging studies and also their clinical manifestations. Our purpose of this review article is to evaluate the role of advanced MR imaging techniques such as Perfusion-weighted imaging (PWI), Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and Magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) in the differentiation of RBN and rGBM and their complications together with our experience and knowledge gained during our neuroimaging practice.
