In order to study the central quality of continuously cast tool steel slabs, the simple model has been developed to simulate the macrosegregation quality criteria. The model calculates different quality criteria such as average macro-segregation level criterion “ASL”, its fluctuation level “FSL” and its segregation quality number “SQN”. These criteria are calculated based on the previous measurements of carbon and sulfur concentrations distributions in final region of spray zones and centerline area of lower and upper slab sides. The effect of mechanical soft reduction Technique “MSR” on the slab centerline quality is examined and analyzed. The model results show that MSR affects the quality of centerline areas significantly by different ways based on the casting speed. The experimental and theoretical results clarify that the qualities of different slab sides are different for all collected samples. The model results show also that the accuracy of the macro-segregation quality criteria increases quantitatively with increasing the number of analyzed segregated elements. Therefore, the macrosegregation quality criteria and their distributions can be considered as the most simple and vital tool to evaluate the various slab qualities. Finally, the mechanism of centerline segregation formation with mechanical soft reduction is discussed in this study.

The fluid mechanics of dike emplacement are analyzed using the translatory wave theory. The stress strain relations in the host rock are assumed linear and the fracture resistance of the host rock is assumed small. The resulting model is a flowing dyke progressing upwards to the surface with constant speed and a very small side slope. Apart from the topmost section, the form of the dyke is very close to the static form corresponding to the magma pressure in a no-flow situation. Two scales are found that control the flow, a width scale and a composite stiffness parameter for the host rock, representing the properties of the rock and the magma such as elasticity and viscosity. The theory explains a number of special features for dykes that are already known by researchers. It also adds two new points, the most interesting being that the composite stiffness of the rock can be estimated from field observations of the downwards widening angle of the dyke.

Purpose This work aims to study the increase in dead layer thickness of an HPGe N-type detector during its operational period from 2012 to *** The dead layer was examined along three Ge-crystal surfaces,such as outer frontal,outer lateral,and inner *** parameters were optimized using response surface methodology(RSM)with a Box–Behnken design(BBD).The Monte Carlo calculations using the GAMOS(Geant4-based Architecture for Medicine-Oriented Simulations)code were performed to evaluate the detector’s efficiency at different values of the inactive germanium *** and conclusion The optimal combination of dead layer thickness has been identified using the desirability function approach,which is a useful tool to optimize multi-response *** find the variation in dead layer thickness over the operational period,the optimization procedure was reiterated for both experimental efficiencies measured in 2012 and *** obtained results show that dead layers thickness has increased from 0.6141 mm to 0.7447 mm,0.0803 mm to 2.2721 mm,and 1.5012 mm to 1.6091 mm for the outer frontal,outer lateral,and inner lateral surfaces,respectively.

Oral Propranolol: A Useful Treatment for Infantile Hemangioma

Background: Infantile haemangioma is the commonest childhood tumor. Several lines of treatment are available. Recent reports have focused on the value of propranolol in treating rapidly proliferating haemangioma. The aim of this study was to assess oral propranolol in treatment for facial haemangioma. Patients and Methods: Fifteen patients with rapidly proliferating infantile facial haemangioma with cosmetic disfigurement were treated with oral propranolol. All patients had cardiovascular pre-treatment work-up and commenced on oral propranolol at 3 mg/kg/day. Results: A rapid decrease in hemangioma proliferation was seen in 100% of patients and significant regressions occuring in all patients. This treatment was well tolerated and had little side effects. Conclusions: Oral propranolol is a reliable and easily reproducible method for treatment of facial hemangioma.

Different questions may be raised during the course of analysis concerning in particular the characterization of materials used, their preparation and application techniques. The different methods used to identify the materials of mud brick, limestone, plaster, mortar and pigments, collected from different sites and periods from Egypt, in order to identify and characterize the materials, their structure, composition and their mineralogical compounds were：（Op） optical microscopy, which was used to examine and to identify the materials structures. Methods used in initial examination were：（1）（MCA）： Micro-chemical analysis, to identify the nature of the materials and for water-soluble salts, to identify sulphates, chlorides, carbonates, nitrites and nitrates; （2）（SM）： Standard methods of wet chemical analysis were used to identify the quantitative and qualitative nature of the, mud building, mortars and their mixtures; （3）（SEM ＆ EDS）： Analytical scanning electron microscope with energy dispersive X-ray analysis system was used to examine the micro-morphology and determine the chemical composition of the different materials; （4）（XRD ＆ XRPD）： X-ray diffraction to identify the mineralogical compound of the plaster, limestone, mortars and pigments used. From all the results obtained, it was possible to establish the nature of the mortars and their binders as well as some other inclusion. In addition to the identification of the stratigraphy of the layers applied in some samples, the examination and analysis gave details of the materials and the approximate ratio of the amount of additives used. Furthermore, the mineralogical analysis provided information on the main mineralogical phases present in the materials analyzed from the different periods.

Multi-Walled carbon nanotubes are used as preconcentrating probes for the quantitative determination of trace cadmium, copper and lead in environmental and biological sample using graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrometry and inductively coupled Plasma Optical Emission spectrometry. The method is based on the electrostatic interactions of positively charged Cd+, Cu+ and Pb+ with the negatively charged multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) for the preconcentration and isolation of analytes from sample solutions. Effective preconcentration of trace cadmium, copper and lead was achieved in a pH range of 5 - 7, 5 - 7 and 4 - 7, respectively. The retained cadmium, copper and lead were efficiently eluted with 0.3 mol·L-1 HCl for graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrometry determination. The multi-walled carbon nanotubes packed micro-column exhibited fairly fast kinetics for the adsorption of cadmium, copper and lead, permitting the use of high sample flow rates up to at least 3 mL·min-1 for the flow injection on micro-column preconcentration without the loss of the retention efficiency. The detection limits (3σ) were 0.03, 0.01 and 0.5 ng·mL-1 for Cd, Cu and Pb, respectively. The relative standard deviation under optimum condition is less than 2.9% (n = 10). The developed method was successfully applied to the determination of trace Cd, Cu and Pb in a variety of environmental and biological samples.

Translation has been the subject of a variety of research and conflicts among theorists. This fact that gives Thomas Samuel Kuhn＇s paradigm theory is pertinent to the present study. Kuhn is an American philosopher of Science. In his book The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, he proposes his paradigm theory which plays a great role in the development of sociology and philosophy of Science. According to Kuhn （1970）, paradigm originates from one or some famous people＇s achievements, and for these achievements to be considered as paradigms, two major characteristics must be met as will be clarified in this paper. This study is an attempt to outline the scope of the disciplines of Translation Studies （TS）, to give some indication of the kind of work that has been done so far. It is an attempt to demonstrate that TS is a discipline in its own right. It is a vastly complex field with many far-reaching ramifications. This study discusses the relationships between the changing definitions of translation and the turns of translation studies.

Studying the Impact of Pollution from Wadi Gaza on the Mediterranean Sea Using GIS and Remote Sensing Techniques

Wadi Gaza is considered as one of the most important coastal wetlands located on the Eastern Mediterranean Basin. It is witnessing rapid degradation due to anthropogenic activities including but not limited to discharge of municipal sewage, dumping of solid wastes, rampant use of pesticides and illegal poaching. They form a river of untreated wastewater, more than 5 km long, before its discharge into the Mediterranean Sea. This study aims to perform an analytical study of Wadi Gaza and study its effects on the pollution of the seawater opposite to it using GIS and remote sensing techniques. The flow accumulation, the watershed and the stream orders inside and outside the Gaza Strip are determined based on a DEM which involves a radar terrestrial scanning of Palestine carried out by NASA’s Endeavor Space Shuttle. The area of the watershed inside Gaza is estimated to be equal to 58.792 km2. The Study also shows that the total amount of contaminated water that flows into the sea can be estimated to reach 146.5 mm3/year. The total area of coastal sea contamination approximately reaches 38.8 km2 and is oriented to the north direction along the coastal shore and its influence extends to Gaza seaport, 10 km apart from the Wadi.

Stress-Tolerant Cassava: The Role of Integrative Ecophysiology-Breeding Research in Crop Improvement

This review highlights an integrative multidisciplinary eco-physiological, breeding and agronomical research on the tropical starchy root crop cassava conducted at CIAT. Laboratory and field studies have elucidated several physio-logical/biochemical mechanisms and plant traits underlying the high productivity in favorable conditions and tolerance to stressful environments, such as prolonged water stress and marginal low-fertility soils. Cassava is endowed with inherent high photosynthetic capacity expressed in near optimal environments that correlates with biological produc- tivity across environments and wide range of ***-measured photosynthetic rates were also associated with root yield, particularly under prolonged drought. Extensive rooting systems and stomatal sensitivity to both atmospheric humidity and soil water shortages underlie tolerance to drought. The C4 phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC) was associated with photosynthesis and yield making it a selectable trait, along with leaf duration, particularly for stressful environments. Germplasm from the core collection was screened for tolerance to soils low in P and K, resulting in the identification of several accessions with good levels of tolerance. Cassava has a comparative advantage against major tropical food and energy crops in terms of biological productivity. Results also point to the importance of field research versus greenhouse or growth-chamber studies. In globally warming climate,the crop is predicted to play more role in tropical and subtropical agro-ecosystems. More research is needed under tropical field conditions to understand the interactive responses to elevated carbon dioxide, temperature, soil fertility, and plant water relations.
