Zn(1-x)CdxO films have been grown on (a-plane) and (r-plane) sapphire substrate by metal organic chemical vapor deposition. A maximum cadmium incorporation of 8.5% and 11.2% has been respectively determined for films deposited on a- and r-plane sapphire. The optical transmission spectra and energy band-gap equation established by Makino et al. were used to estimate the cadmium mole fraction of the solid solutions. Structural, morphological and optical properties of these films were examined using high resolution X-ray diffraction (HRXRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and room and low temperature photoluminescence (Pl) as Cd incorporation and employed substrate. X-ray diffraction study revealed that all films had wurtzite phase but solid solution grown on a-plane sapphire are polycrystalline with a preferred orientation along the [0001] direction and a-plane film are epitaxially grown on r-plane sapphire. AFM image show significant differences between morphologies depending on orientation sapphire substrate but no significant differences on surface roughness have been found. The near band-edge photoluminescence emission shifts gradually to lower energies as Cd is incorporated and reaches 2.916 eV for the highest Cd content (11.2%) at low temperature (20 K). The room temperature hall mobility decreases with the Cd incorporation but it is larger for Zn(1-x)CdxO grown on r-plane sapphire.

Lao.7Sr0.3Mnl_xNixO3 （x = 0, 0.025, 0.050 and 0.075） ceramics were prepared by the conventional solid-state reaction method. The partial substitution of Mn by Ni2＋ leads to a decrease in cell volume as well as a structural transition from the rhombohedral to the orthorhombic structure. Ni2＋ doping increases the electrical resistivity, decreases the semiconductor-metal transition temperature （Tms） and relatively enhances the room temperature magnetoresistance （MR）, especially in x = 0.025 and around Tins. With respect to conduction mechanism, the small polaron hopping （SPH） and the variable range hopping （VRH） models were used to ex- amine conduction in the semiconducting region.

The adsorption behaviour of Cu2+ onto maghnite was conducted under batch conditions. The effect of time, pH of the dispersion, temperature and initial metal concentration on the adsorption of Cu2+ onto maghnite was investigated. In this study, 94% of Cu(II), was adsorbed on the maghnite clay when the equilibrium was reached at 120 min. The adsorption of Cu2+ was a fast process that followed the pseudo-second-order kinetics. This process could be described by the Langmuir model and gave a maximum Cu2+ adsorption capacity of 21.78 mg/g at 293 K. The thermodynamic parameters such as variation of enthalpy ΔH, variation of entropy ΔS and variation of Gibbs free energy ΔG were calculated from the slope and intercept of lnKd vs. 1/T plots. The adsorption was endothermic reaction. The adsorption process for this natural maghnite is more spontaneous because the values of ΔG are less negative. The results suggested that natural maghnite was suitable as sorbent material for the recovery and adsorption of metal ion from aqueous solutions.

Maghnite clay obtained from Tlemcen, Algeria was investigated to remove heavy metal ion from wastewater. Thus, the present study includes the adsorption of Ni(II) in aqueous solution on maghnite clay through the process of adsorption under various conditions (with variable concentration of metal ion, temperature, pH and mixing time). Increasing pH favours the removal of metal ions till they are precipitated as the insoluble hydroxides. The uptake is rapid with maximum adsorption being observed within 10 min for Ni(II). In addition, the results obtained from adsorption isotherm indicated that these data can be better fitted with the Langmuir and Freundlich equations than the Dubinin-Radushke- vich (D-R) equation.

Zinner syndrome is a rare congenital malformation related to an abnormality in the development of the Wolffian duct, the clinical picture of which consists of a triad of unilateral renal agenesis, ipsilateral seminal vesicle cyst, and obstruction of the ejaculatory duct. Chronic perineoscrotal pain may be an indication of the diagnosis of Zïnner syndrome to some extent. We report the observation of a 23-year-old patient, married and father of one child, who presented with chronic perineo-scrotal pain revealing on morphological assessment (ultrasound, uroscanner, prostatic MRI) a cystic formation of the seminal vesicle, left renal agenesis with an empty left renal compartment. Given the patient’s refusal of any surgical procedure, treatment consisted of echo-guided puncture of the seminal vesicle cyst bringing back 30 cc of a seroviscous liquid whose analysis revealed spermatozoa, without atypical cells, compatible with a cyst. The clinical evolution was marked by a progressive remission of the scrotal pain with a delay of several months.

Intra-Abdominal Cystic Lymphangioma: Report of 21 Cases

Studying in a retrospective review of 21 cases, diagnostic, therapeutic and evolutionary aspects of intra-abdominal cystic lymphangioma (CL). Methods: Between 1992 and 2014, 21 patients were operated at our institution for a CL. Clinical presentation, location, surgical management and outcome were studied. Results: There were 14 women and 7 men. All CL were diagnosed by abdominal ultrasound and/or abdominal CT scan. The most common site was the retroperitoneum (24%) followed by equally by the mesentery, the mesocolon and abdominal wall. Surgical treatment consisted of a complete resection of cyst in 20 patients. This resection required a splenectomy in one case for a splenic location and digestive resection in 2 cases. Two cases of recurrence of CL were revealed. The first case was a result of partial resection, but the second case occurred in a patient who underwent a total cystectomy. These patients were asymptomatic, so we decided to monitor them. Conclusion: CL in adult is a rare disease. The preoperative diagnostic has benefited from the contribution of imaging mainly ultrasound and CT scan, treatment consisted of surgical complete excision to prevent recurrences.

AIM: To investigate a possible association between losartan and sirtuin 1(SIRT1) in reduced-size orthotopic liver transplantation(ROLT) in ***: Livers of male Sprague-Dawley rats(200-250 g) were preserved in University of Wisconsin preservation solution for 1 h at 4 ℃ prior to *** an additional group,an antagonist of angiotensin Ⅱ type 1 receptor(AT1R),losartan,was orally administered(5 mg/kg) 24 h and 1 h before the surgical procedure to both the donors and the ***(as an indicator of liver injury),SIRT1 activity,and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide(NAD+,a co-factor necessary for SIRT1 activity) levels were determined by biochemical *** expression of SIRT1,acetylated Fox O1(ac-Fox O1),NAMPT(the precursor of NAD+),heat shock proteins(HSP70,HO-1) expression,endoplasmic reticulum stress(GRP78,IRE1 a,p-e IF2) and apoptosis(caspase 12 and caspase 3) parameters were determined by Western *** alterations in protein expression of mitogen activated protein kinases(MAPK),such as p-p38 and p-ERK,were also ***,the SIRT3 protein expression and m RNA levels were ***: The present study demonstrated that losartan administration led to diminished liver injury when compared to ROLT group,as evidenced by the significant decreases in alanine aminotransferase(358.3 ± 133.44 vs 206 ± 33.61,P < 0.05) and aspartate aminotransferase levels(893.57 ± 397.69 vs 500.85 ± 118.07,P < 0.05).The lessened hepatic injury in case of losartan was associated with enhanced SIRT1 protein expression and activity(5.27 ± 0.32 vs 6.08 ± 0.30,P < 0.05).This was concomitant with increased levels of NAD+(0.87 ± 0.22 vs 1.195 ± 0.144,P < 0.05) the co-factor necessary for SIRT1 activity,as well as with decreases in ac-Fox O1 *** treatment also provoked significant attenuation of endoplasmic reticulum stress parameters(GRP78,IRE1 a,p-e IF2) which was consistent with reduced levels of both caspase 12 and caspase 3.
