The cactus is a plant that grows in many rural areas,widely used as a hedge,and has multiple benefits through the manufacture of various cosmetics and other ***,this crop has been suffering for some time from the attack of the carmine scaleDactylopius opuntia(Hemiptera:Dactylopiidae).The infestation can spread rapidly if not treated in the early *** solutions consist of regular field checks by the naked eyes carried out by *** major difficulty is the lack of experts to check all fields,especially in remote *** addition,this requires time and *** the need for a system that can categorize the health level of cacti *** date,deep learning models used to categorize plant diseases from images have not addressed the mealy bug infestation of cacti because computer vision has not sufficiently addressed this *** there is no public dataset and smartphones are commonly used as tools to take pictures,it might then be conceivable for farmers to use them to categorize the infection level of their *** this work,we developed a system called CactiVIT that instantly determines the health status of cacti using the Visual image Transformer(ViT)*** also provided a new image dataset of cochineal infested cacti.1 Finally,we developed a mobile application that delivers the classification results directly to farmers about the infestation in their fields by showing the probabilities related to each *** study compares the existing models on the new dataset and presents the results *** VIT-B-16 model reveals an approved performance in the literature and in our experiments,in which it achieved 88.73%overall accuracy with an average of+2.61%compared to other convolutional neural network(CNN)models that we evaluated under similar conditions.

Cartilage tympanoplasty in the treatment of adhesive otitis media with and without Eustachian tube balloon dilatation

Purpose:To compare cartilage tympanoplasty(CT)combined with eustachian tube balloon dilatation(ETBD)and cartilage tympanoplasty alone as a surgical treatment modality for adhesive otitis media(AdOM)in terms of graft healing,audiological outcomes,and impact on life style,using Chronic Otitis Media Outcome Test 15(COMOT-15).Methods:50 patients with AdOM were randomly classified into 2 groups:25 patients for cartilage tympanoplasty only(CT group)and 25 patients for cartilage tympanoplasty combined with eustachian tube balloon dilatation(CT t ETBD group).Clinical outcomes in both groups were compared at 3 and 6 months of follow ***:There was no significant difference in graft healing between the two *** COMOT-15 scores significantly decreased in both groups with a significant difference between the groups with regard to the decrease in COMOT-15 scores at 3 and 6 months of follow-up(P<0.05).Hearing improvement was achieved,as the mean preoperative ABG was 26.5±5.4 and 27.1±4.6 dB,and the mean postoperative ABG at 6 months was 19.4±4.4 and 14.6±3.9 dB in the CT and the CT t ETBD groups,*** difference in the magnitude of ABG reduction in the two groups was significant at 3 and 6 months of postoperative follow-up(P<0.05)in favour of the CT t ETBD ***:ETBD can increase the success rate of cartilage tympanoplasty in patients with AdOM by enhancing the audiological outcome and quality of life.

Effect of reperfusion strategy on QT dispersion in patients with acute myocardial infarction:Impact on in-hospital arrhythmia

BACKGROUND Myocardial ischemia and ST-elevation myocardial infarction(STEMI)increase QT dispersion(QTD)and corrected QT dispersion(QTcD),and are also associated with ventricular *** To evaluate the effects of reperfusion strategy[primary percutaneous coronary intervention(PPCI)or fibrinolytic therapy]on QTD and QTcD in STEMI patients and assess the impact of the chosen strategy on the occurrence of in-hospital *** This prospective,observational,multicenter study included 240 patients admitted with STEMI who were treated with either PPCI(group I)or fibrinolytic therapy(group II).QTD and QTcD were measured on admission and 24 hr after reperfusion,and patients were observed to detect in-hospital *** There were significant reductions in QTD and QTcD from admission to 24 hr in both group I and group II *** and QTcD were found to be shorter in group I patients at 24 hr than those in group II(53±19 msec vs 60±18 msec,P=0.005 and 60±21 msec vs 69+22 msec,P=0.003,respectively).The occurrence of in-hospital arrhythmia was significantly more frequent in group II than in group I(25 patients,20.8%vs 8 patients,6.7%,P=0.001).Furthermore,QTD and QTcD were higher in patients with in-hospital arrhythmia than those without(P=0.001 and P=0.02,respectively).CONCLUSION In STEMI patients,PPCI and fibrinolytic therapy effectively reduced QTD and QTcD,with a higher observed reduction using *** was associated with a lower incidence of in-hospital arrhythmia than fibrinolytic *** addition,QTD and QTcD were shorter in patients not experiencing in-hospital arrhythmia than those with arrhythmia.

Trans-/cis-olefin isomers play a vital role in the petrochemical *** paucity of energy-efficient technologies for their splitting is mainly due to the similarities of their physicochemical ***,two new tailor-made anion-pillared ultramicroporous metal–organic frameworks(MOFs),ZU-36-Ni and ZU-36-Fe(GeFSIX-3-Ni and GeFSIX-3-Fe)are reported for the first time for the efficient trans-/cis-2-butene(trans-/cis-C_(4)H_(8))mixture splitting by enhanced molecular ***,ZU-36-Ni unexpectedly exhibited smart guest-adaptive pore channels for trapping trans-C_(4)H_(8)with a remarkable adsorption capacity(2.45 mmol∙g^(−1))while effectively rejecting cis-C_(4)H_(8)with a high purity of 99.99%.The dispersion-corrected density functional theory(DFT-D)calculation suggested that the guest-adaptive behavior of ZU-36-Ni in response to trans-C_(4)H_(8)is derived from the organic linker rotation and the optimal pore dimensions,which not only improve the favorable adsorption/diffusion of trans-C_(4)H_(8)with optimal host–guest interactions,but also enhance the size-exclusion of cis-C_(4)H_(8).This work opens a new avenue for pore engineering in advanced smart or adaptive porous materials for specific applications involving guest molecular recognition.

Angiogenesis is an essential process for organ growth and repair. Thus, an imbalance in this process can lead to several diseases including malignancy. Angiogenesis is a critical step in vascular remodeling, tissue damage and wound healing besides being required for invasive tumor growth and metastasis. Because angiogenesis sets an important point in the control of tumor progression, its inhibition is considered a valuable therapeutic approach for tumor treatment. Chronic liver disease including hepatitis C virus(HCV) infection is one of the main cause for the development of hepatic angiogenesis and thereby plays a critical role in the modulation of hepatic angiogenesis that finally leads to hepatocellular carcinoma progression and invasion. Thus, understanding of the molecular mechanisms of HCV-mediated hepatic angiogenesis will help design a therapeutic protocol for the intervention of HCV-mediated angiogenesis and subsequently its outcome. In this review, we will focus on the molecular mechanisms of HCV-mediated hepatic angiogenesis and the related signaling pathways that can be target for current and under development therapeutic approaches.

Isolation and characterization of marine-derived actinomycetes with cytotoxic activity from the Red Sea coast

Objective: To isolate and evaluate the cytotoxic activity of different actinomycetes species isolated from the Red Sea coast in Sharm el-Sheikh, ***: Forty actinomycetes strains were isolated from different sediments and seawater samples collected from the Red Sea coast in Egypt. Actinomycetes were recognized by morphological and microscopic examinations. Cell viability and cytotoxicity induced by the crude extracts on breast cancer cell lines MDA-MB-231 were assessed using methylene blue assay. The strains with promising cytotoxic activity were identified by sequencing and amplifying the 16 S r RNA genes. The antibacterial activities of the crude extracts were performed using Kirby–Bauer disc diffusion ***: The results indicated that five ethyl acetate extracts exhibited cytotoxicity towards breast cancer cell lines MDA-MB-231. The highest cytotoxic activity was found for the ethyl acetate extracts of EGY2 and EGY39. The isolate EGY3 was identified as a new Streptomyces species, while the actinomycete EGY22 was found to be a member of the genus Nocardiopsis sp. The crude extract of the isolate EGY8 showed slightly high antimicrobial activity against different test ***: The results of the present study reveal that marine sediments of the Red Sea are a potent source of novel species of actinomycetes. The isolates may be useful in discovery of novel bioactive compounds and an important step in the development of microbial natural product research.

Medical treatment of inflammatory punctual stenosis monitored by anterior segment optical coherence tomography

AIM:To evaluate the role of medical treatment in the management of inflammatory punctum stenosis guided by spectral domain anterior segment optical coherence tomography(OCT).METHODS:This prospective study included 60 patients complaining of epiphora due to inflammatory punctual *** were divided into two groups:Group A(30 patients)treated with a combination of preservative free hydrocortisone sodium phosphate 3.35 mg/m L eye drops,and preservative free artificial tears based on sodium hyaluronate,polyethylene and propylene Glycol;Group B(30 patients)treated with the same preservative free artificial tears *** normal subjects were included for comparison of pre-treatment anatomical *** starting treatment,all patients underwent anterior segment assessment including slit lamp examination,measurement of intraocular pressure(IOP),fluorescein dye disappearance test,and measurement of the outer punctum diameter(OPD)by Spectral domain anterior segment *** assessments were repeated at each follow up done at 1 and 3 mo later,together with subjective evaluation of patient’s satisfaction of the treatment outcome by simple rating ***:Punctual diameter increased significantly with treatment in both groups(P<0.0001);although the widening was more in Group A as compared to group B(16.2%vs 8%of the original punctual size,mean difference of 28.933μm,P=0.0076).Subjective satisfaction with treatment outcome was also better in group A(70%vs 40%,Chi-square P=0.0397).CONCLUSION:A combination of preservative free steroid eye drops and artificial tears causes significant widening of inflammed stenotic punctae and improvement of the associated epiphora.

Early detection of hepatocellular carcinoma co-occurring with hepatitis C virus infection: A mathematical model

AIM: To develop a mathematical model for the early detection of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with a panel of serum proteins in combination with α-fetoprotein (AFP).METHODS: Serum levels of interleukin (IL)-8, soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (sICAM-1), soluble tumor necrosis factor receptor II (sTNF-RII), proteasome, and β-catenin were measured in 479 subjects categorized into four groups: (1) HCC concurrent with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection (n = 192); (2) HCV related liver cirrhosis (LC) (n = 96); (3) Chronic hepatitis C (CHC) (n = 96); and (4) Healthy controls (n = 95). The R package and different modules for binary and multi-class classifiers based on generalized linear models were used to model the data. Predictive power was used to evaluate the performance of the model. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis over pairs of groups was used to identify the best cutoffs differentiating the different ***: We revealed mathematical models, based on a binary classifier, made up of a unique panel of serum proteins that improved the individual performance of AFP in discriminating HCC patients from patients with chronic liver disease either with or without cirrhosis. We discriminated the HCC group from the cirrhotic liver group using a mathematical model (-11.3 + 7.38 × Prot + 0.00108 × sICAM + 0.2574 × β-catenin + 0.01597 × AFP) with a cutoff of 0.6552, which achieved 98.8% specificity and 89.1% sensitivity. For the discrimination of the HCC group from the CHC group, we used a mathematical model [-10.40 + 1.416 × proteasome + 0.002024 × IL + 0.004096 × sICAM-1 + (4.251 × 10-4) × sTNF + 0.02567 × β-catenin + 0.02442 × AFP] with a cutoff 0.744 and achieved 96.8% specificity and 89.7% sensitivity.
