Chronic neuroprotective effects of low concentration lithium on SH-SY5Y cells:possible involvement of stress proteins and gene expression

To investigate the molecular mechanism underlying the neuroprotective effect of lithium on cells, in this study, we exposed SH-SY5Y cells to 0.5 mmol/L lithium carbonate （Li2CO2） for 25-50 weeks and then detected the expression levels of some neurobiology related genes and post-translational modifications of stress proteins in SH-SYSY cells, cDNA arrays showed that pyruvate kinase 2 （PKM2） and calmodulin 3 （CaM 3） expression levels were significantly down-regulated, phosphatase protein PP2A expression was lightly down-regulated, and casein kinase II （CK2）, threonine/tyrosine phosphatase 7 （PYST2）, and dopamine beta-hydroxylase （DBH） expression levels were significantly up-regulated. Besides, western blot analysis of stress proteins （HSP27, HSP70, GRP78 and GRP94） showed an over-expression of two proteins： a 105 kDa protein which is a hyper-phosphorylated isoform of GRP94, and a 108 kDa protein which is a phosphorylated tetramer of HSP27. These results suggest that the neuroprotective effects of lithium are likely related to gene expressions and post-translational modifications of proteins cited above.

Background: The knowledge on pericardial disease has increased but the European Society of Cardiology in the last guidelines 2015 stated a section of perspective and unmet needs referring to the surgical management as one of these needs. Here, we present an institutional experience to contribute with other studies in explanation of questionable aspects about their surgical management. Methods: Among 127 cases (93 adults and 34 children) that were diagnosed as pericardial syndrome, we retrospectively analyzed 45 cases (40 adults and 5 children) operated for pericardial syndrome from May 2012 to June 2019. Echocardiogram was the main preoperative diagnostic tool. Surgical approach was selected according to each diagnosis. Postoperative clinical assessment, recurrence and mortality rate were the main determinants of outcome. Results: Regarding pericardial effusions, the mean preoperative medical treatment period was 17.7 ± 21.9 days and pericardial window through thoracotomy was the common approach (54.5%). In constrictive pericarditis, infection was the main etiology (40%), mean preoperative medical treatment period was 16 ± 8.8 days and complete pericardiectomy was the surgical procedure for most cases. Trans-sternal drainage was the standard approach for cardiac tamponade. No postoperative same admission recurrences were reported and 11 (24.4%) mortalities were recorded, 7 (15.5%) cases of them were

This article brings up some explanations and clarifications about twice deposition of lead iodide written in the previous article[1],after looking into the twice deposition of lead iodide and carrying on the improving by a layer of PbBr2 instead of PbI2,the short circuit current density(Jsc)has decreased,allowing to explain the twice deposition is,in fact,one *** absorbance of perovskite will be *** substrate temperature is the most important parameter because it can improve the efficiency of the perovskite solar cells,the substrate temperature should be about 100°C at the deposition of lead iodide,and when the deposition of methylammonium iodide is done when the substrate is still hot,the efficiency is also *** temperature during the preparation is less important than the humidity,but the preparation in the glovebox allows that the environmental conditions be controlled.

The Effect of Oral Nifedipine versus Parenteral Magnesium Sulfate and Ritodrine for Tocolysis in Patients with Threatened Preterm Labor: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Background: Preterm labor is a serious cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality. This study aims to compare the effects of nifedipine, Magnesium sulfate and ritodrine as tocolytic drugs in patients presented with threatened preterm labor. Patients and Methods: The current study was randomized controlled trial conducted in Sohag Teaching Hospital between November 2015 and September 2016. Patients were divided into: Group A: 101 patients received intravenous ritodrine infusion;Group B: 101 patients received intravenous magnesium sulfate;Group C: 101 patients received oral nifedipine. Different maternal and neonatal outcomes were assessed. Results: The baseline criteria were homogenous among the study groups with no statistically significant differences. There is no difference between each other group regarding the need for additional tocolysis or the rate of recurrence of labour pains. Nifedipine was associated with the least length of hospital stay. There is no difference between all groups regarding the rate of preterm delivery before full steroid dose (p > 0.05). However, nifedipine group was the least one in the rate of occurrence of preterm delivery within 7 days from initiation of tocolytic therapy. Similarly, nifedipine group was associated with higher gestational age at delivery and significant prolongation of pregnancy than the other groups. Conclusion: Oral nifedipine use was associated with less recurrence of labor pains, less need for additional tocolysis, less duration of hospital stay, and more patient satisfaction in patients with threatened preterm labour.

This study aims to measure the radiation dose over several steel-making factories in Khartoum region, Sudan. The authors used different techniques to detect the harmful Natural Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM) emitting through the steel-making process. While, an X-ray Diffractometer was utilized to detect the NORM in the isotopes clay elite and magnesio-ferrite over slag steel waste and soil. The worker dose was measured by using polimaster device and it was detected 56.448 mSv per year. And backpack mobile monitored the background over the waste and it was 0.048 μSv/h in accounting mode. In another hand gamma spectrometer with a high purity germanium detector detected the average of activity concentration of natural radionuclide over the slag steel waste and K-40 of it is 321 ± 3 Bq/Kg, Th-232 is 20.6 ± 5 Bq/Kg, Ra-226 is 15.2 ± 4 bq/Kg, Cs-137 is 3.33 ± 7 Bq/Kg, and over soil around the waste the concentration of K40, Ra226, Th232 was (185 ± 3, 12.6 ± 7, and 12.0 ± 5) Bq/Kg, respectively.

Objective:To determine the quantitative paremeters of rosmarinic acid in Algerian mints,Mentha spicata L.(***),Mentha pulegium *** Mentha rotundifolia(L.)Huds by high performance thin layer chromatography(HPTLC)-densitometric method and screen the effects of these plant extracts on linoleic acid ***:The analyses were performed on HPTLC silica gel 60 F254 plates with chloroform:acetone:formic acid(75:16.5:8.5,v/v)as the mobile *** acid was determined in UV at 365 nm and fluorescence at λ_(exc)325 nm with a 550 nm filter,*** effects of plants extracts on linoleic acid peroxidation were measured by an indirect in vitro colorimetric ***:Chromatographic resolution permitted reliable quantification in both measurement modes and calibration curves were linear in a range of 150-1000 ng/*** was found to contain significantly higher concentrations of rosmarinic *** densitometric quantification allowed the analysis of many samples in a short time with reasonable precision(total precision for Mentha spp extracts,5.1%and 5.8%for UV and fluorescence detection,respectively).The HPTLC data,allied to assays of linoleic acid peroxidation prevention,suggested the potential of ***(52%Trolox®equivalents)as a natural source for inhibitors of lipid ***:Densitometry can be used for routine determination and quality control of rosmarinic acid in herbal and formulations containing Mentha species.

Nowadays global navigation satellite system(GNSS)receivers are the primary tool not only for precision surveying but also for geodesy,geophysics and many other industrial applications *** only way to assure the accuracy,universality and longevity of GNSS measurements is by calibration of its *** parameters affecting the calibration accuracy of a single GNSS receiver are discussed in this *** a geodetic basepoint is established according to previous empirical studies to serve as a reference for ***,the traceability to the systeme international(SI)unit of such kind of calibrations is *** of the base point is also verified through long-term measurements over three ***,a calibration of a sample single GNSS receiver is performed and the uncertainty budget is derived.

Background: The association between prenatal exposure to antiseizure medications (ASM) and autism spectrum disorder has been documented. This study sought to examine and synthesize evidence from studies that have evaluated these associations, with particular focus on the trimester of pregnancy and dosage of exposure. Methodology: PubMed, Embase, and PsycINFO databases were searched following strict inclusion/exclusion criteria. 10 studies were recruited involving children born to mothers with epilepsy who took ASM during pregnancy as cases, and those with epilepsy who did not take any ASM in pregnancy. Results: The relative risk of developing ASD among children exposed to valproic acid (RR, 3.90 [95% CI: 2.36 - 6.44], p eloping ASD in children. The relative risk was twice as high in those exposed to valproic acid compared to those exposed to carbamazepine or lamotrigine. Trimester of pregnancy and dosage of ASM used by the mothers were not significant.

Acute Fevers in the Medical Unit of the Medical-Surgical Emergency Department of the Donka National Hospital

Introduction: Fever is a high core temperature ≥ 37.5°C in the morning and 37.8°C in the evening. It is acute when it evolves from 0 to 20 days. Very common in clinical practice, the etiological diagnosis, particularly in developing and tropical countries, is often a challenge for clinicians due to their diversity and the limited availability of diagnostic tools. There is a wide spectrum of etiological diagnoses including infectious causes and non-infectious causes. The aim of this study was to investigate the etiology of fevers acute at the medical unit in the medico-surgical emergency department of the Donka National Hospital. Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study lasting 03 months (January 01, 2022 to March 31, 2022). We included in this study all patients seen in the medical unit, whose age ≥ 18 years, without distinction of sex, from any origin, with an axillary temperature ≥ 37.5°C in the morning and 37.8°C in the evening, evolving from 0 to 20 days, hospitalized or followed on an outpatient basis, and having given verbal consent. Results: Of a total of 1087 patients seen, 466 had an acute fever. The mean age was 40.04 ± 18.91 years (18 and 96 years). The female sex (58.15%) was predominant with a sex ratio of 0.72. Malaria (50.86%) was the main diagnosis. The treatment consisted of compressed paracetamol (59.01%), arthemether + lumefantrine (50.85%). Conclusion: The incidence of acute fevers is high in the medical unit of the medico-surgical emergency department of the Donka National Hospital. Malaria was the main pathology. Treatment was etiological and symptomatic. This high incidence could be explained by the fact that Guinea is an endemic malaria zone. A study taking into account other etiological factors would be of great interest.
