Effect of reaction and post-treatment conditions on physico-chemical properties of magnetic iron oxide nano-particles Author links open overlay panel

Poor stability and dispersibility,as well as aggregation are considered as major challenges in clinical application of iron oxide nanoparticles(IONPs).Several studies have shown that the synthesis parameters and post-synthesis treatments e.g.,drying methods,have the capability to improve the particles'***,we investigate the combined effect of synthesis and post-treatment parameters on the particle size,stability and magnetism of ***(Fe_(3)O_(4))NPs were prepared via co-precipitation and post-treated using different methods,i.e.(i)freeze dried at-53℃,0.133 mbar for 48 h(liquid nitrogen frozen(LFD)and freezer frozen(FFD)),(ii)vacuum oven dried(VOD)at 60℃for 24 h,and(iii)kept wet colloidal(WET),dispersed in deionized *** Fe_(3)O_(4)NPs’chemical functional groups,size,shape,crystallinity,stability,aggregation,porosity,and magnetic properties were further analysed using different characterisation *** results showed that,while the WET sample had the best stability and significantly less aggregation at different temperatures,amongst post-treated Fe_(3)O_(4)NPs,LFD sample exhibited the best stability(up to 37℃),dispersion and smallest polydispersity ***,all dried NPs had superparamagnetic characteristics,while,LFD Fe_(3)O_(4)NPs had better magnetic properties and stability than other drying methods.

Background:Control of snail intermediate hosts has been proved to be a fast and efficient approach for interrupting the transmission of *** plant extracts have shown obvious molluscicidal activity,and a new compound Luo-Wei,also named tea-seed distilled saponin(TDS),was developed based on the saponins extracted from Camellia oleifera *** aimed to test the molluscicidal activity of 4%TDS against the intermediate host snails in China and Egypt,and evaluate its environmental safety to non-target ***:In the laboratory,Oncomelania hupensis,Biomphalaria alexandrina and Bulinus truncatus were exposed to 4%TDS,and the median lethal concentration(LC5o)was estimated at 24,48 and 72 *** the field,snail mortalities were assessed 1,2,3 and 7 d post-immersion with 2.5 g/m34%TDS and 1,3,7 and 15 d post-spraying with 5 g/m24%*** addition,the acute toxicity of 4%TDS to Japanese quail(Coturnixjaponica),zebrafish(Brachydanio rerio)and freshwater shrimp(Macrobrachium nipponense)was assessed by estimations of LC5o or median lethal dose(LD5o).results:In the laboratory,the LC5o values of 4%TDS for *** were 0.701,0.371 and 0.33 mg/L at 24,48 and 72 h,respectively,and 4%TDS showed a 0.33 mg/L 24 h LC5o against ***,and a 1.396 mg/L 24 h LCs0 against *** all study regions,the pooled mortalities of *** were 72,86,94 and 98%at 1,2,3 and 7 d,following field immersion of 4%TDS at a dose of 2.5 g/m3,and were 69,77,85 and 88%at 1,3,7 and 15 d,following field spraying at 5 g/m2,respectively.4%TDS had moderate toxicity to Japanese quail(7 d LD5o>60 mg/kg)and to shrimp(96 h LCs0=6.28 mg/L;95%CI:3.53-11.2 mg/L),whereas its toxicity to zebrafish was high(96 h LCso--0.15 mg/L;95%CI:0.14-0.17 mg/L).Conclusions:4%TDS is active against ***,*** and *** under laboratory and field conditions,and it may be a candidate molluscicide of plant origin.

Cervical meningoceles are the least common forms of spina bifida, representing between 4% to 8% of all spinal dysraphisms. They are not accompanied by neurological deficit in childhood but attached cord syndrome can occur with growth. Surgical treatment, in addition to avoiding rupture and correcting the aesthetic damage, will preserve neurological functions. We report 2 cases that we took care of. They are a 5-month-old infant and a 3-year-old girl. The first presented a 7 cm rounded meningocele pedunculated through the C1 lamina defect. The second presented an 8.6 cm polylobed meningocele pedunculated through the C2 lamina defect. They both underwent surgery with good progress.

An Advanced FMrL Controller for FACTS Devices to Enhance Dynamic Performance of Power Systems

The parameters of power system slowly change with time due to environmental effects or may change rapidly due to faults. It is preferable that the control technique in this system possesses robustness for various fault conditions and disturbances. The used flexible alternating current transmission system （FACTS） in this paper is an advanced super-conducting magnetic energy storage （ASMES）. Many control techniques that use ASMES to improve power system stability have been proposed. While fuzzy controller has proven its value in some applications, the researches applying fuzzy controller with ASMES have been actively reported. However, it is sometimes very difficult to specify the rule base for some plants, when the parameters change. To solve this problem, a fuzzy model reference learning controller （FMrLC） is proposed in this paper, which investigates multi-input multi-output FMrLC for time-variant nonlinear system. This control method provides the motivation for adaptive fuzzy control, where the focus is on the automatic online synthesis and tuning of fuzzy controller parameters （i.e., using online data to continually learn the fuzzy controller that will ensure that the performance objectives are met）. Simulation results show that the proposed robust controller is able to work with nonlinear and nonstationary power system （i.e., single machine-infinite bus （SMIB） system）, under various fault conditions and disturbances.

Cooperative Answering of Fuzzy Queries

The majority of existing information systems deals with crisp data through crisp database systems. Traditional Database Management Systems （DBMS） have not taken into account imprecision so one can say there is some sort of lack of flexibility. The reason is that queries retrieve only elements which precisely match to the given Boolean query. That is, an element belongs to the result if the query is true for this element; otherwise, no answers are returned to the user. The aim of this paper is to present a cooperative approach to handling empty answers of fuzzy conjunctive queries by referring to the Formal Concept Analysis （FCA） theory and fuzzy logic. We present an architecture which combines FCA and databases. The processing of fuzzy queries allows detecting the minimal reasons of empty answers. We also use concept lattice in order to provide the user with the nearest answers in the case of a query failure.
