Influence of host age and host deprivation on longevity, egg load dynamics and oviposition rate in microplitis rufiventris

Adult size, longevity, egg load dynamics and oviposition ofmicroplitis rufiventris Kok. which began their development in the first, second, third （preferred hosts） or fourth （non-preferred hosts） instar larvae of Spodoptera littoralis （Boisd.） were studied. The parasitoid size was largely determined by the initial host size at parasitism. Non-ovipositing females derived from older hosts lived for longer periods than those derived from younger ones. However, the ovipositing females, irrespective of their size, lived for almost the same periods. At emergence, the oviducts of adult females contain a significant amount of mature eggs available for oviposition for a few hours on eclosion day. Egg load increases during the early phase of adult life. The amount of additional mature eggs and rate of egg maturation per hour was greater for wasps derived from preferred hosts compared with those in females derived from non-preferred hosts. The pattern of egg production in m. rufiventris females depended on the availability of hosts for parasitization. Host-deprived females depleted the egg complement with aging; the longer the host deprivation, the lower the oviduct egg load. marked reduction in both realized or potential fecundity of host-deprived females was observed following host availability. Host privation for more than 3 days induced a marked deficit fecundity pattern through the female＇ s life. The realized fecundity was determined by the interaction among host availability, the number of eggs that are matured over the female＇ s life span, oviposition rate and host size from which the female was derived. These results suggest that：（i） m. rufiventris wasp is a weak synovigenic species; （ii） the maturation of additional eggs is inhibited once the maximum oviduct egg load is reached; （iii） the egg load of the newly emerged female is significantly less than the realized fecundity; and （iv） because m. rufiventris females oviposit fewer eggs when they begin depleting their

Corrosion Behaviour of Nickel in Chloroacetic Acids and its Inhibition

Anodic dissolution behaviour of Ni in mono-, di- and trichloroacetic acids has been investigated by measuring current densities of Ni electrode (versus SCE) at different potentials. Effects of acid concentration, pH, scan rate and additive inhibitor on the potential were studied and they revealed that there is a considerable shift of potential. Potentiodynamic polarization measurements show that the corrosion rate of Ni in chloroacetic acid solutions increases by increasing the previous factors. However, by adding inhibitor, it decreases.

The synthesis of biological silicon nano-particles(Bio-Si-NPs)is an eco-friendly and lowcost *** is no study focusing on the effect of Bio-Si-NPs on the plants grown on saline soil contaminated with heavy *** this study,an attempt was made to synthesis Bio-Si-NPs using potassium silica florid substrate,and the identified Aspergillus tubingensis Am11 isolate that separated from distribution systems of the potable water.A twoyear field trial was conducted to compare the protective effects of Bio-Si-NPs(2.5 and 5.0 mmol/L)and potassium silicate(10 mmol/L)as a foliar spray on the antioxidant defense system,physio-biochemical components,and the contaminants contents of Phaseolus vulgaris *** on saline soil contaminated with heavy *** findings showed that all treatments of Bio-Si-NPs and potassium silicate significantly improved plant growth and production,chlorophylls,carotenoids,transpiration rate,net photosynthetic rate,stomatal conductance,membrane stability index,relative water content,free proline,total soluble sugars,N,P,K,Ca2+,K+/Na+,and the activities of peroxidase,catalase,ascorbic peroxidase and superoxide oxide *** of Bio-Si-NPs and potassium silicate significantly decreased electrolyte leakage,malondialdehyde,H2 O2,O2·-,Na+,Pb,Cd,and Ni in leaves and pods of Phaseolus vulgaris *** to ***-Si-NPs were more effective compared to potassium *** of Bio-Si-NPs at the rate of 5 mmol/L was the recommended treatment to enhance the performance and reduce heavy metals content on plants grown on contaminated saline soils.

Geochemistry of lamprophyres associated with uranium mineralization, Southeastern Desert, Egypt

Two brecciated shear zones (NNW-SSE) are found crosscutting cataclastic rocks. The cataclastic rocks (3.0 km2) occupy the core of the granitic pluton and enclose a roof pendant of mafic-ultramafic rocks. The NNW-SSE-extending lamprophyre dykes vary in thickness from 0.5 m to 1 m and up to 800 m long, cutting the cataclastic rocks and are composed mainly of plagioclases, amphiboles, relics of pyroxenes and K-feldspar phenocrysts embedded in fine-grained groundmass. They are characterized as being peraluminous, calc-alkaline in composition (chemical trap) and enriched in calcite, sulfide and P2O5. The lamprophyres were affected by hydrothermal alteration (chlorite-carbonate alteration) while the cataclastic rocks were affected by diagenetic alteration (K-feldspar-albite alteration). Uranium mineralization is the product of hydrothermal events and has been investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEm), involving primary uranium minerals (U3O8) and secondary uranium minerals (uranophane and beta-uranophane, kasolite, torbernite, autonite and meta-autonite) in addition to U- bearing minerals (astrocyanite, betafite and fergusonite). The presence of different mineral parageneses associated with clay minerals indicates that the lamprophyres were subjected to acidic and alkaline mineralizing solutions. moreover, the U-Zr/U, U-Ce/U values show negative correlations, confirming U-enrichment in both cataclastic rocks and shear zones while the Th-eU/eTh, Th-Zr/Th and Th-Ce/Th values show negative correlations, indicating that the U-bearing solutions are rich in Th in the cataclastic rocks only.

Effective damping of local low frequency oscillations in power systems integrated with bulk PV generation

High penetration of renewable sources into conventional power systems results in reduction of system inertia and noticeable low-frequency oscillations (LFOs) in the rotor speed of synchronous generators. In this paper, we propose effective damping of LFOs by incorporating a supplementary damping controller with a photovoltaic (PV) generating station, where the parameters of this controller are coordinated optimally with those of a power system stabilizer (PSS). The proposed method is applied to damp local electromechanical modes by studying a system comprising a synchronous generator and a PV station connected to an infinite bus. The PV station is modeled following the instructions of the Western electricity Coordinating Council. The problem is modeled as an optimization problem, where the damping ratio of the electromechanical modes is designed as the objective function. Constraints including upper and lower limits of decision parameters and damping ratio of other modes are considered by imposing penalties on the objective function. Different optimization algorithms are used to pursue the optimal design, such as political, improved gray wolves and equilibrium optimizers. The results validate the effectiveness of the proposed controller with PSS in damping local modes of oscillations.

Paleoecology of Benthic Foraminifera in Coral Reefs Recorded in the Jurassic Tuwaiq mountain Formation of the khashm Al-Qaddiyah Area, Central Saudi Arabia

Thirty three benthic foraminiferal species belong to 23 genera and 16 families have been recorded from the coral reefs of the Callovian Tuwaiq Formation, khashm AI-Qaddiyah area, Central Saudi Arabia. Three species： Astacolus qaddiyahensis, Nodosaria riyadhensis, Siderolites jurassica are believed to be new. Nearly all identified foraminifera are of Atlantie-miditeranean affinity. The foraminiferal assemblage recorded in the present work is mixed of open marine, moderately deep marine conditions associations and shallow to deep lagoon. The reefal part of upper Twiaq Formation may have been deposited in shallow water of lower to middle shelf depth （20-50 m） as indicated by abundant corals and benthic foraminifera. The coral fauna and bearing benthic foraminifera indicated moderate water energy.

Web service(WS)presents a good solution to the interoperability of different types of systems that aims to reduce the overhead of high processing in a resource-limited *** the increasing demand for mobile WS(mWS),the WS discovery process has become a significant challenging point in the WS lifecycle that aims to identify the relevant mWSs that best match the service *** discovery process is a resource-consuming task that cannot be performed efficiently in a mobile computing environment due to the limitations of mobile ***,a cloud computing can provide rich computing resources for mobile environments given its unlimited and easily scalable *** paper proposes a semantic WS discovery and invocation framework in mobile environments based on cloud and a relationship-aware matchmaking *** discovery algorithm enriches mWS and user requests semantically with the functional and non-functional properties of Ontology Web Language for Services,such as Quality of Web Service,device context,and user *** WS repository is filtered based on logical reasoning and a parameter-based matching algorithm to minimize the matching space and improve runtime *** cosine similarity between the user request and services repository is then assessed to generate the most relevant *** relationships among concepts in the ontology are considered to improve the recall and precision *** the WS discovery process,users can invoke and test these services in a mobile environment through a dynamic user *** interface of the invocation process is changed according to the WS description *** application prototype is also developed to evaluate the framework based on a Cordova cross-mobile development framework.

Endemics and endangered species in the biodiversity hotspot of the Shada mountains, Saudi Arabia

Shada mountains in Saudi Arabia, separated by maleel Wadi into twin mountains（i.e., Shada Alalah and Shada Asfal）, are rich in biodiversity. We investigated the diversity of endemics and endangered species of the mountains based on the data collected from 38 stands falling in 8 elevational zones ranging from 500 to 2215 m a.s.l. Results indicated that 495 plant species falling in 314 genera and 76 families occurred in the Shada mountains, including 19 endemic species and 43 endangered species, and accounting for 22% of the total flora in Saudi Arabia. Canonical correlation analysis indicated that physiographic features, particularly altitude play an important role in the frequency and abundance of species. Endemics were not evenly distributed in the Shada mountains and mostly restricted in the elevation zone of 1000–1500 or ＆gt;1500 m a.s.l. When the altitude reached up to 2000 m a.s.l., the endemics decreased substantially due to the significantly low temperature. The endangered species existed three different distribution patterns：（i） most endangered species distributed in the altitudes of 1000–1800 m a.s.l.;（ii） endangered trees, lianas, and shrubs occupied the altitudes 1000–1300 m a.s.l.; and（iii） endangered subshrubs and herbs inhabited the altitudes 1500–2100 m a.s.l. The results demonstrated that the biodiversity of endangered species in the Shada mountains is high and undisturbed by invasive species, and protective measures should be taken against human disturbances to the small-scale hotspot.

GIS-based flash flooding susceptibility analysis and water management in arid mountain ranges:Safaga Region,Red Sea mountains,Egypt

The Safaga Region(SR)is part of the Red Sea mountain range in *** flash flooding is now an inescapable event,wreaking havoc and causing massive loss of life and *** majority of the floodwater,however,has been wasted as runoff to the Red Sea,which,if used wisely,could meet a fraction of the water demands for a variety of applications in this *** current work aims to use GIS techniques to integrate remote sensing data for evaluating,mitigating,and managing flash floods in *** data set comprised Tropical Rainfall measuring mission(TRmm)thematic rainfall data,1:50,000 scale topographical map sheets,geological maps,the ASTER Digital elevation model(ASTER GDEm),Landsat 7 Enhanced Thematic mapper"(ETm7+),and Landsat 8 Operational Land *** flash flood risk model of SR is developed using ArcGIS-10.3 geoprocessing tools integrating all the causal factors thematic *** final flood risk model for the SR suggests that 57%of the total basins in the SR are at high risk of *** 38%of all basins are at moderate flood *** remaining 5%of basins are less prone to ***-prone zones were identified,suitable dam-building sites were located,and extremely probable areas for water recharge were *** the basis of reliable scientific data,structural and non-structural mitigation strategies that might reduce the damage susceptibility,alleviate the sensitivity of the flash flood,and best utilize its water supply were recommended.
