Crypto-Giardia antigen rapid test versus conventional modified Ziehl-Neelsen acid fast staining method for diagnosis of cryptosporidiosis

Objectove:To evaluate the validity of Crypto-Giardia antigen rapid test(CA-RT) in comparison with the conventional mollified Ziehl-Neelsen acid fast(MZN-AF) staining method for the diagnosis of ***:Fifteen preserved stool samples from previously confirmed infections were used as positive controls and 40 stool samples from healthy people were used as negative control.A total of 85 stool samples were collected from suspected patients with cryptosporidiosis over 6 months during the period from January till *** stud) was conducted in the department of parasitology,central *** Specialist Hospital, *** *** samples were subjected to CA-RT and conventional MZN-AF staining *** parameters including sensitivity(SN).specificity(SP),accuracy index (AI).positive predictive value(PPV).and negative predictive value(NPV) were evaluated for both ***:Out of 15[lositive controls,CA-RT detected 13(86.7%) while MZN-AF detected 11(73.3%) positive ***-RT detected no positive case in 40 normal controls but MZN-AF detected 2(5%) as positive *** on the results,the *** and NPV were high in CA-RT than MZN-AF staining method,ie..86.7%vs.73.3%.100%vs.95%.96.4%vs.89.1%. 100%vs.84.6%and 95.2%vs.90.5%.*** of a total of 85 suspected *** detected 7(8.2%) but MZN-AF detected 6(7.1%) cases as ***:CA-RT immunoassay is more valid and reliable than MZN-AF staining method.

Experimental investigation of enhancement of carbon dioxide foam stability, pore plugging, and oil recovery in the presence of silica nanoparticles

The influence of surface-modified silica(SiO_2) nanoparticles on the stability and pore plugging properties of foams in porous media was investigated in this study. The pore plugging ability of foams was estimated from the pressure drop induced during foam propagation in porous media. The results clearly showed that the modified Si02 nanoparticlestabilized foam exhibited high stability, and the differential pressure increased in porous media by as much as three *** addition of SiO_2 nanoparticles to the foaming dispersions further mitigated the adverse effect of oil toward the foam pore plugging ability. Consequently, the oil recovery increased in the presence of nanoparticles by approximately 15%during the enhanced oil recovery experiment. The study suggested that the addition of surface-modified silica nanoparticles to the surfactant solution could considerably improve the conventional foam stability and pore plugging performance in porous media.

THE INDOOR ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY PERFORMANCE OF GREEN LOW-INCOME SINGLE-FAMILY HOUSING

There is little empirical evidence in the literature about the indoor environmental quality performance of residential buildings in general and of social housing in particular. To address this problem, this study used a mixed-method approach to evaluate the indoor environmental quality performance of 17 green low-income single attached family houses in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. Questionnaires were administered to occupants to assess their snapshot and long-term satisfaction with the indoor environment. In addition, snapshot measurements were carried out to evaluate the indoor environmental quality factors of thermal comfort, indoor air quality, lighting and acoustics. Occupants’ snapshot satisfaction was categorized into two groups (i.e. satisfied/comfortable or dissatisfied/uncomfortable) and compared with snapshot measurements. The results showed the measured IEQ parameters were well below recommended threshold levels. Further, occupants with higher snapshot satisfaction were generally exposed to relatively lower levels of indoor pollutants. A statistically significant difference was found in PM10 level only between the snapshot satisfied and snapshot dissatisfied groups of occupants. Apparent sound transmission classes were below the standard reference value of 50, suggesting potential problems in noise attenuation within different spaces in each apartment and between apartments. The findings of this study could help governments implement green shadowing for public-housing and also renovate existing houses using the same principles.

In vivo hypoglycemic investigation, antihyperglycemic and antihyperlipidemic potentials of Pereskia bleo Kunth. in normal and streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats

Objective: To elucidate the in vivo hypoglycemic capability, antihyperglycemic and antihyperlipidemic activities of Pereskia bleo(Kunth) leaves extracts and bioactive fraction. Methods: The various solvent extracts of Pereskia bleo were investigated for the hypoglycemic and antihyperglycemic activities using a relevant in vivo normal rat model and streptozotocininduced diabetic rat model with glibenclamide and metformin utilized as positive controls. The effects of the most potent extract and its bioactive fraction on the insulin level, lipid profile and body weight of the diabetic rats were also analyzed. Results: All the extracts showed no hypoglycemic effect while petroleum ether, chloroform and aqueous extracts demonstrated significant(P<0.05) reduction in blood sugar level in the intraperitoneal glucose tolerance test. Aqueous extract and aqueous fraction significantly(P<0.05) reduced the blood glucose level in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats as early as day 6 compared to the diabetic control as well as significantly restored the serum insulin of diabetic rats. Moreover, the aqueous extract and aqueous fraction disclosed a significant(P<0.05) reduction in total cholesterol, triglycerides, and low-density lipoprotein levels. An elevation in high-density lipoprotein as well as improved body weight loss of the diabetic rats were also observed. Conclusions: In summary, Pereskia bleo appears effective in the management of diabetes and correlated impairments arising from high blood sugar level. Further studies will possibly bring about the discovery of effective and secure plant derived antidiabetic drugs.

Numerical Analysis of Cavity-Based Control of Base Pressure Variations at Supersonic Mach Numbers

In the present study,the base pressure variations induced by the presence of a cavity,known to have a strong influence of the behaviour of supersonic projectiles,are investigated through numerical solution of the balance equations for mass,momentum,and *** area ratio of four is considered and numerical simulations are carried out at Mach M=1.2,1.4,1.6,and 1.8 assuming no cavity or cavity locations 0.5D,1D,1.5D,and *** inlet pressure of the nozzle is considered as a flow *** Taguchi method is also used,and the considered cases are then analyzed using a full factorial experimental *** results show that the cavity is effective in increasing the base pressure for the conditions *** other nozzle pressure ratios,cavities do not lead to passive control due the change in the reattachment *** distribution of wall pressure reveals that,in general,a cavity used to implement passive control of the base pressure does not adversely influence the flow pattern in the domain.

Laboratory efficacy of mycoparasitic fungi(Aspergillus tubingensis and Trichoderma harzianum) against tropical bed bugs(Cimex hemipterus)(Hemiptera:Cimicidae)

Objective: To test the effectiveness of conidial spore formulations [Aspergillus tubingensis(***) and Trichoderma harzianum(***)] against tropical bed bugs, Cimex ***: Spore formulations were made from two fungal strains, *** and *** bed bugs were exposed to the conidial spores placed soaked onto a fabric cloth for 1 h and the mortality counts were recorded daily until 14 ***: Mean survival times based on Kaplan–Meier survival analysis showed no significant differences between all the concentrations in both the fungal isolates:*** and ***, the evaluation of both the isolates in terms of virulence resulted in low lethal hours in all the concentrations except for the high concentration of ***(LT_(50)= 44.629 h) at the conidial exposure of 1 × 10~6 spores/*** mortality of the bed bugs was observed from Day 6 to Day 12, ranging from 13% to 90% in all three concentrations of *** reference to the *** exposure, the concentration of 1 × 10~4 spores/mL displayed a gradual increase in the percentage mortality of 90 on Day ***: Approaches to the bed bugs treatment should be explored in-depth using a natural biological agent like fungus especially *** to reduce this pest population, in order to replace chemical methods.

Concentrations of Poorly Studied Technology-Critical Elements Ge, Zr, Mo, Sn, Sb, Hf, Ta, W and Ti in the Sediments of Three Northern Egyptian Lakes

Thirty five Sediment samples were collected from three Northern Egyptian Lakes namely El Burullus, El Manzala and El Bardawil to evaluate for the first time the concentrations of poorly studied technology-critical elements, namely Ge, Zr, Mo, Sn, Sb, Hf, Ta, W and Ti, and how that may be linked to local water quality parameters and other geochemical factors. Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) was used to determine element’s concentration. The results were compared with Upper Continental Crust (UCC) and Nile sediment (ANS). Lake sediments generally have relatively low contents of most elements. The average concentration of Zr, Hf, Ta and W are lower than UCC and ANS in three Lakes. El Bardawil Lake attained the lowest average concentration for all elements except Mo. Correlation analysis revealed that water quality and geochemical properties did not play any important role affecting the metal distribution and the studied metals are generally not affected by the complex lacustrine system of these lakes and their spatial distribution still not affected by the different anthropogenic activates.

Failure detection is an essential task in industrial systems for preventing costly downtime and ensuring the seamlessoperation of the system. Current industrial processes are getting smarter with the emergence of Industry ***, various modernized industrial processes have been equipped with quite a few sensors to collectprocess-based data to find faults arising or prevailing in processes along with monitoring the status of *** diagnosis of rotating machines serves a main role in the engineering field and industrial production. Dueto the disadvantages of existing fault, diagnosis approaches, which greatly depend on professional experienceand human knowledge, intellectual fault diagnosis based on deep learning (DL) has attracted the researcher’sinterest. DL reaches the desired fault classification and automatic feature learning. Therefore, this article designs a Gradient Optimizer Algorithm with Hybrid Deep Learning-based Failure Detection and Classification (GOAHDLFDC)in the industrial environment. The presented GOAHDL-FDC technique initially applies continuous wavelettransform (CWT) for preprocessing the actual vibrational signals of the rotating machinery. Next, the residualnetwork (ResNet18) model was exploited for the extraction of features from the vibration signals which are thenfed into theHDLmodel for automated fault detection. Finally, theGOA-based hyperparameter tuning is performedtoadjust the parameter valuesof theHDLmodel *** experimental result analysis of the GOAHDL-FD Calgorithm takes place using a series of simulations and the experimentation outcomes highlight the better resultsof the GOAHDL-FDC technique under different aspects.

孟加拉国的河流淡水资源量位居世界第三。3条主要河流即恒河、雅鲁藏布江和梅克纳河，径流量仅次于流经巴西的亚马孙和非洲的刚果河。需要指出的是，流经孟加拉国的237条河流中有57条穿过盂加拉国国界（国际河流）。流经恒河与雅鲁藏布江的年径流量，水平铺在孟加拉国国土上约有5．5m深。盂加拉国平均年降雨量2000mm，而且90％集中在雨季。因此，所有的有效水量平铺在孟加拉国国土上约有7．5m深。然而，盂加拉国11月至次年5月依然面临水资源短缺，同时，由于降雨及其径流的年际不均，还遭受洪水威胁。3～5月份，西南、西北地区非常干燥，河流出现季节性断流。位于中部和东部的河流由于受到海湾潮汐的影响，至少是在潮位较高的时候，可以保持不断流。本研究提出一些通过提高管理水平保持阿德赖河和巴拉河全年不断的方法途径，有助于提高农作物的产量和渔业产量。

Mesuaferrea stem bark extract induces apoptosis and inhibits metastasis in human colorectal carcinoma HCT 116 cells, through modulation of multiple cell signalling pathways

Considering the great potential of natural products as anticancer agents, the present study was designed to explore the molecular mechanisms responsible for anticancer activities of Mesua ferrea stem bark extract against human colorectal carcinoma. Based on MTT assay results, bioactive sub-fraction(SF-3) was selected for further studies using HCT 116 cells. Repeated column chromatography resulted in isolation of less active α-amyrin from SF-3, which was identified and characterized by GC-MS and HPLC methods. α-amyrin and betulinic acid contents of SF-3 were measured by HPLC methods. Fluorescent assays revealed characteristic apoptotic features, including cell shrinkage, nuclear condensation, and marked decrease in mitochondrial membrane potential in SF-3 treated cells. In addition, increased levels of caspases-9 and-3/7 levels were also observed in SF-3 treated cells. SF-3 showed promising antimetastatic properties in multiple in vitro assays. Multi-pathway analysis revealed significant down-regulation of WNT, HIF-1α, and EGFR with simultaneous up-regulation of p53, Myc/Max, and TGF-β signalling pathways in SF-3 treated cells. In addition, promising growth inhibitory effects were observed in SF-3 treated HCT 116 tumour spheroids, which give a hint about in vivo antitumor efficacy of SF-3 phytoconstituents. In conclusion, these results demonstrated that anticancer effects of SF-3 towards colon cancer are through modulation of multiple molecular pathways.
