BACKGROUND Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis-related cirrhosis is one of the liver complications in type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)and reported to be a risk factor for developing hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).A reliable screening biomarker of liver cirrhosis(LC)and HCC among T2DM patients is important to reduce the morbidity and mortality of this ***(miRNA)is considered a key player in HCC and T2DM,and it might be a hidden culprit in diabetes-associated HCC,making it a promising reliable prognostic *** To investigate the signature of serum miRNAs as early biomarkers for the screening of HCC among diabetic *** Expression profiles of miRNAs in serum samples of diabetic LC and diabetic HCC patients were assessed using Illumina sequencing;then,RT-qPCR was used to validate significantly altered miRNAs between the two *** miRNAs were tested in serum samples of 200 T2DM patients,270 LC patients,200 HCC patients,and 225 healthy control ***,receiver operating characteristic(ROC)analysis,with area under the curve(AUC),was performed to assess the diagnostic performance of the screened miRNAs for discriminating HCC from LC and nonmalignant patients(LC+T2DM).RESULTS Expression of the sequenced miRNAs in serum was different in HCC vs LCpositive T2DM *** miRNAs(miR-34a,miR-221)were significantly upregulated and five miRNAs(miR-16,miR-23-3p,miR-122-5p,miR-198,miR-199a-3p)were significantly down-regulated in HCC compared to LC *** of ROC curve demonstrated that the combination of these seven miRNAs can be used as a reliable biomarker for detection of HCC in diabetic patients,as it could identify HCC with high diagnostic accuracy in diabetic LC patients(AUC=0.993)and in diabetic nonmalignant patients(AUC=0.961).CONCLUSION This study validates a panel of serum miRNAs that can be used as a reliable noninvasive screening biomarker of HCC among T2DM cirrhotic and noncirrhotic *** study recommends furt

In this study, the feasibility of using chitosan, a multifunctional environmentally friendly biopolymer, at different molecular weights to simultaneously adsorb various metal ions from aqueous solutions was evaluated. The experiments were carried out to estimate adsorptivity and selectivity of three molecular weights chitosan, 3.60 × 105 （Chl）, 5.97 × 105 （Ch2） and 9.47 × 105 （Ch3） g/mol, towards Cu（II）, Ni（II）, and Pb（II） ions in aqueous solutions. Association of serum bilirubin and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease: A feasible therapeutic avenue?

AIM： To the look at the current strength of evidence and the potential application of anti-oxidants in this ***： Two electronic databases （PubMed and Web of Knowledge） were searched to January 2013 to find studies addressing serum bilirubin levels in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease （NAFLD）. The search used key word combinations in relation to NAFLD and serum bilirubin specifc to human adults only. After screening selected studies were reviewed in depth by two inde-pendent reviewers. Data synthesis with further metaanalysis was planned but not possible due to the het-erogeneity of the outcome measures in these ***： Out of 416 studies screened only seven studies were considered suitable for inclusion. All seven studies consistently reported an inverse association of bilirubin with NAFLD despite the heterogeneous sample of studies. Only two studies were prospective. No negative studies were ***： Most studies suggest a correlation between high bilirubin levels of any type are inversely correlated with NAFLD. But to date most of these stud-ies have been poorly designed to allow meaningful con-clusions, except one cohort study. There is a need for a large prospective cohort study in multiple populations to test this hypothesis fully before mechanistic associa-tions can be established and therapeutic options of the apparent anti-oxidant effect of bilirubin be explored in NAFLD. Furthermore these studies should include analysis of UGT1A1 gene to expound upon underlying cause of unconjugated hyperbilirubinaemia.

汉语动结式是汉语语法中比较复杂、比较难理解的语法。动结式一般由谓语动词与结果补语两个部分组成的,前面的动词表示动作的变化、行为等,后面的补语说明动作和行为的结果。在汉语作为第二语言的教学中,动结式是非常重要的语言点,也是留学生最难掌握的汉语语法点之一。由于阿拉伯语中没有“补语”系统,加上动结式本身的独特性、复杂性和多变性,对于阿拉伯语学生而言,动结式的习得比较困难。就目前关于汉语结果补语的习得研究看来,大部分都是针对欧美和亚洲国家的留学生,而很少有针对阿拉伯留学生或者非洲留学生的研究。因此针对阿拉伯汉语学习者习得汉语动结式的研究就非常有必要。本文使用的研究方法是实验方法,对母语为阿拉伯语的初级、中级和高级汉语学习者进行了动结式的测试。实验结果显示,汉语水平对阿拉伯语母语者习得汉语动结式有很显著影响,即随着汉语水平的提高,学习者的动结式习得正确率也逐渐提高。同时发现,因果事件框架也对动结式写的产生影响,在与汉语动结式对应的阿语结果中,如果阿语的谓语动词含有方式,则阿语中结果因子独立表达的动结式习得要好于结果因子融合的动结式,而阿语的谓语动词不含方式时,阿语中结果因子独立表达和融合表达的动结式没有显著差异。基于以上结论,汉语国际教学中动结式的教学提出了注重国别化、分类型、分阶段以及对比分析教法的教学建议,希望对动结式的教学有所启示。

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) is a primary liver cancer, which is one of the most prevalent cancers among humans. Many factors are involved in the liver carcinogenesis as lifestyle and environmental factors. Hepatitis virus infections are now recognized as the chief etiology of HCC; however, the precise mechanism is still enigmatic till now. The inflammation triggered by the cytokine-mediated immune response, was reported to be the closest factor of HCC development. Cytokines are immunoregulatory proteins produced by immune cells, functioning as orchestrators of the immune response. Genes of cytokines and their receptors are known to be polymorphic, which give rise to variations in their genes. These variations have a great impact on the expression levels of the secreted cytokines. Therefore, cytokine gene polymorphisms are involved in the molecular mechanisms of several diseases. This piece of work aims to shed much light on the role of cytokine gene polymorphisms as genetic host factor in hepatitis related HCC.

Traditional medicinal plants are one of the potential sources of antimicrobial drugs and there is a great concern in the use and development of herbal medicine for the treatment of various infections. This study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial, and antioxidant activities of Dichrostachys cinera ethanolic leaves extract and to determine the components of the crude extract. D. cinera extract was evaluated against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853. The antibacterial, antioxidant activities and active constituents were determined using standard methods. Antibacterial activity of the crude extract findings showed that all bacterial candidates were susceptible where S. aureus represent MIC at 12.5 mg/ml and MBC at 25 mg/ml, E. coli and P. aeruginosa both showed MIC 25 mg/ml and MBC 50 mg/ml. In the free radical scavenging assay of the extract and the standard quercetin at concentrations of 250 μg/ml, 125 μg/ml, 50 μg/ml, 10 μg/ml, and 5 μg/ml. The radical scavenging activity for the extract was about 92%, 89.6%, 86.8%, 82.8% and 37.8% respectively, compared to quercetin which gave 89.7%, 85.8%, 62.1%, 55.5%, and 45% radical scavenging activity. The GC-Ms analysis of the total constituents demonstrated that 1,6-Anhydro-2,4-dideoxy-.beta.-D-ribo-hexo (21.26%) with different peaks, followed by Glycerin (11.56%), 1,2,3-Cyclopentanetriol (10.18%), 8,11,14-Eicosatrienoic acid, (Z,Z,Z)-(6.18%), 1H-Pyrrole, 1-methyl-(6.08%), Phytol (5.91%) and 7-Bromo-6-(2-diethylaminoethoxy)-2,3-dihyd (5.44%) as major components in the extract. Finally, this study provided useful information on the therapeutic potential of D. cinera as an antibacterial agent and recommended to be evaluated against a wide range of Bacterial and fungal strains using different solvents and different parts from the plant.

Effect of Electroless Copper Coating on the Corrosion Behavior of Aluminium Based Metal Matrix Composites Reinforced with Silicon Carbide Particles

The present paper involves firstly in the studies of corrosion properties of Al 6061 metal matrix composites reinforced with varying percentage of uncoated and Cu coated silicon carbide in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution using weight loss method. The processing route used for the composites was stir casting technique. Mass loss and corrosion rate measurements were utilized as criteria for evaluating the corrosion behavior of composites. The surface morphology of composites after the corrosion test is determined by using scanning electron microscopy. It has been observed that copper as reinforcement coating reduces the corrosion resistance of composites in comparison to uncoated reinforcements and monolithic alloy.

Prevalence and Correlates of Obesity and Overweight in Tunisian Bipolar I Patients

Objective: We aim to determine the prevalence of obesity and overweight in bipolar I patients, and to examine their associations with the demographic, clinical and therapeutic characteristics of this population. Patients and Methods: Our study included 120 bipolar I patients (79 men and 41 women, mean age = 39.5 ± 11.9 years). Weight and height were evaluated by body mass index (BMI). Obesity was defined when BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2 and overweight when BMI ≥ 25 kg/m2. Results: The prevalence of obesity and overweight was respectively 32.5% and 30.8%. Obesity was significantly more frequent in women than men. The illness duration was significantly longer in obese patients than in those with normal weight. Moreover, the family history of medical disorders and concomitant medical disorders was significantly more frequent in obese patients than in those with normal weight. However, any significant association between therapeutic characteristics and obesity or overweight was found. Conclusions: Obesity and overweight were frequent in bipolar I patients. Obesity was significantly frequent in women and significantly associated with illness duration, medical disorders, and concomitant medical disorders. These results emphasized the need for specific treatment strategies and programs for weight control for these patients.
