The porosity of a rock is one of the most important reservoir properties. It controls the reservoir storage capacity. In other words, porosity quantifies the amount of fluids that the rock can store. Most of the world＇s giant fields produce hydrocarbons from carbonate reservoirs. Carbonate rocks contain more than 50% of the world＇s hydrocarbon reserves. Porosity and compressional wave velocity of 41 carbonate samples were determined under ambient conditions in laboratory. The samples were collected from seven shallow wells in west Tushka area, south Western Desert, Egypt. This paper evaluates the well known Wyllie and Raymer equations, an empirical linear equation, and a generalized model for porosity estimation from compressional wave velocity of saturated carbonate samples. Water manufactured is the primary waste source in the oil and gas industry. Because of the rising amount of waste worldwide, the environmental effect of wastewater has become a primary environmental concern in recent years. The vast amounts involved have resulted in considerable costs to the industry for handling produced water. This research explains the wide variety of choices for water management. This research’s first phase was water minimization techniques, consisting of three different applications made in three different wells (Well 1, Well 2 and Well 3) and water recycling and reuse by two techniques. In Well 1, Mechanical shut-off technique was applied using through tubing bridge plug and 5 m cement dumped above it to isolate the watered out zone;as per water oil ration plot the water cut is decreased from 100% to 4% and the production is increased from 0 to 400 bcpd. In Well 2, Chemical shut-off technique using a polymer called Brightwater has been used to block channeling through high permeability intervals after PLT log detected it, and the result was brilliant, the water cut decreased from 60% to 25%, also the oil production increase from 500 to 3000 bopd. In Well 3, downhole separator installed in it using workover (unfortunately, this technique is not applied in middle east till the moment so this application is taken from an oil field in Canada)and the result was perfect, the water cut decreased from 70% to 28%, also the oil production increase from 44 to 100 bopd. This study tried to clarify and compare the most widely used water management techniques using one of the Western Desert (W.D.) (enhanced for oil recovery, constructed wetland).

Cobalt-free alloy of constituent’s “0.045%C-12.73%Ni-6.53%Cr-3.2%Mo-0.02%Ti-0.01%V” has been prepared by electro slag remelting technique. Mass attenuation coefficient, half value layer and effective atomic number have been determined for the prepared sample at photon energies 235 - 2700 keV. The results are compared with the corresponding theoretical calculations based on XCOM program and a fair agreement is obtained.

Objective:To evaluate the effects of ethanol–water(80:20) extract of Marrubium vulgare(***) on the hematological parameters,macroscopic and histological aspects of the uterus and fetus in non-pregnant and pregnant ***:Female rats were divided into 4 equal groups(n = 9),group N(normal rats) and group G(pregnant rats) considered as control groups,group NE(normal rats treated with the ethanol–water(80:20,v/v) extract of ***) and group GE(pregnant rats treated with the extract).The ethanol–water(80:20) plant extract was administered in a single daily dose 1 g/kg at the morning,during 19 *** the 19 day of the experiment,animals were sacrificed,the uterus and fetuses were removed for the morphological and histological studies and the blood was collected in EDTA tubes for the measurement of hematological parameters with the use of an automate ‘HORIBA ABX Micros 60 Hematology Analyzer'.Results:Our results showed,in group NE and GE,a significant decrease on hematological parameters:red blood cells(NE:18.6%;GE:38.4%),hematocrit(NE:13.8%;GE:20.4%),hemoglobin(NE:12.1%;GE:8.3%) and mean corpuscular volume(NE:6.4%;GE:2%) with P more less a ***,the extract of *** caused a significant decrease on the mean implantations of fetuses(82.5%,P<0.001) and their size(47.2%,P< 0.01).As for the macroscopic and histological appearance of uterus,our data showed no change in normal treated *** contrast,the treated pregnant rats showed a severe histological change characterized by the existence of location of stopped ***,it was also found in the uterus of these rat lyses placental and embryo ***:All these results support the hypothesis of an abortifacient effect of ***.

Upper limb compartment syndrome after an adder bite： a case report

Compartment syndrome after an adder bite is extremely rare, whose effects are only secondary to the cytotoxic and hemorrhagic effects of venom. Here we reported a case of compartment syndrome in the upper limb following an adder bite in the thenar eminence. Elevated compartment pressure was documented and immediate surgical fasciotomy was practiced. The patient achieved complete recovery with a good functional result. We discussed the controversies on fasciotomy and non-invasive measures in such a situation, and recommended intracompartmental pressure monitoring during the management of compartment syndrome following adder bites.

[Abstract] Objective： To evaluate the clinical and radiological outcome of anterior vascularized bone graft in the treatment of primitive nonunion of the scaphoid. Methods： This is a retrospective study of 26 scaphoid nonunion cases treated by this technique between 2004 and 2009. The mean age was 38 years. Nonunion was of types IIA and IIB according to the Alnot＇s classification and only one case showed a proximal pole necrosis （type IV）. The fixation was ensured by K-wire. The mean immobilization period was 9 weeks. Results： At mean 19 months follow-up, the bone union rate was 88.5%. Failure was noted in three cases. No significant complications secondary to this technique were observed. The mobility in extension and flexion had an average recovery of 18°. Nineteen patients （73%） were free of pain, and the others had occasional pain Conclusions： It is a meticulous surgical technique that provides better union rates than those of conventional scaphoid graft. This technique is first adopted in cases of failure of conventional grafts in the treatment of scaphoid nonunion but the encouraging results suggest expanding indications to primitive nonunion.
