Pedunculated colonic lipoma prolapsing through the anus

Colorectal lipomas are the second most common benign tumors of the colon. These masses are typically incidental findings with over 94% being asymptomatic. Symptoms-classically abdominal pain, bleeding per rectum and alterations in bowel habits-may arise when lipomas become larger than 2 cm in size. Colonic lipomas are most often noted incidentally by colonoscopy. They may also be identified by abdominal imaging such as computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging. We report a case of a sixty-one years old male who presented to our emergency room with a 6.7 cm × 6.3 cm soft tissue mucosal mass protruding transanally. The patient was stable with a benign abdominal examination. The mass was initially thought to be a rectal prolapse; however, a limited digital rectal exam was able to identify this as distinct from the anal canal. Since the mass was irreducible, it was elected to be resected under anesthesia. At surgery, manipulation of the mass identified that the lesion was pedunculated with a long and thickened stalk. A laparoscopic linear cutting stapler was used to resect the mass at its stalk. Pathology showed a polypoid submucosal lipoma of the colon with overlying ulceration and necrosis. We report this case to highlight this rare but possible presentation of colonic lipomas; an incarcerated, trans-anal mass with features suggesting rectal prolapse. Trans-anal resection is simple and effective treatment.

Plants contain various factors that transiently interact with subunits or intermediates of the thylakoid multiprotein complexes, promoting their stable association and integration. Hence, assembly factors are essential for chloroplast development and the transition from heterotrophic to phototrophic growth. Snowy cotyledon 2 （SCO2） is a dNAJ-like protein involved in thylakoid membrane biogenesis and interacts with the light-harvesting chlorophyll-binding protein LHCBI. In Arabidopsis thaliana, SCO2 function was previ- ously reported to be restricted to cotyledons. Here we show that disruption of SC02 in Lotus japonicus results not only in paler cotyledons but also in variegated true leaves. Furthermore, smaller and pale- green true leaves can also be observed in A. thaliana sco2 （atsco2） mutants under short-day conditions. In both species, SCO2 is required for proper accumulation of PSlI-LHCll complexes. In contrast to other variegated mutants, inhibition of chloroplastic translation strongly affects L. japonicus sco2 mutant devel- opment and fails to suppress their variegated phenotype. moreover, inactivation of the suppressor of variegation AtClpR1 in the atsco2 background results in an additive double-mutant phenotype with variegated true leaves. Taken together, our results indicate that SCO2 plays a distinct role in PSll assembly or repair and constitutes a novel factor involved in leaf variegation.

AIm To evaluate the safety and efficacy of intragastric balloon(IGB) in weight reduction in obese patients referred to a tertiary hospital in the Kingdom of Saudi *** Three hundred and one consecutive obese individuals, who underwent IGB placement during January 2009 to may 2015, were analyzed. The subjects aged 18 to 60 years and had a minimum body mass index(BmI) of 27 kg/m^2. The IGB was placed under conscious sedation and kept for 6 mo. Anthropometric measurements were recorded during and after 6 mo of IGB *** The body weight, excess body weight, and BmI were significantly reduced at the time of IGB removal and 6 mo later. Body weight loss > 10% was achieved in 224 subjects at removal of IGB. End of treatment success and long-term success were both significantly observed in women(70 vs 11)(71 vs 12.5) respectively. Excess BmI loss was significantly higher in subjects retaining the IGB for over 6 mo both at the removal [43.44 ± 19.46(n = 221) vs 55.60 ± 28.69(n = 80); t = 4.19, P = 0.0001] as well as at the end of 6 mo' follow-up [46.57 ± 24.89(n = 221) vs 63.52 ± 31.08(n = 80); t = 4.87, P = 0.0001]. Within 3 d of IGB placement, two subjects developed pancreatitis and one subject developed cardiac arrhythmia. Intestinal obstruction due to displacement of IGB occurred in two subjects. Allthese subjects recovered uneventfully after immediate removal of the IGB. CONCLUSION IGB was effective in our cohorts. The observed weight reduction was maintained for at least 6 mo post IGB removal. IGB placement was safe with a satisfactory tolerance rate.

A 3-month randomized factorial design 4 × 2 (four levels 0, 15, 30, and 45%) of wet date (Wd), two levels (0 and 0.03%) of digestarom? (d) and three replicates. The trial was conducted in twenty four glass aquaria. Ten fingerlings of Nile tilapia were placed in each aquarium with an average weight 15.40±0.3 g fish. Fish were fed twice daily (six days a week) at a rate of 3% of body weight. The results revealed that, mean final weight (g/fish), SGR (%/day), feed conversion ratio, PPV and PER, were significantly (p ≤ 0.05) affected by the levels of Wd and level of d. And the best diet achieved which containing 30% Wd supplemented with 0.03% d. From the above results and the economic information of these studies it can be concluded that, diet containing 30% of Wd with 0.03% d exhibited the highest net profit and would seem to be the most desirable level of Wd and d in the system studied.

The rational reticular design of metal-organic frameworks(mOFs)from building units of known geometries is essential for enriching the diversity of mOF *** and intriguing structures,however,can also arise from subtle changes in the rigidity/length of organic linkers and/or synthetic ***,we report three uranium-based mOF structures—i.e.,NU-135X(X=0,1,2)—synthesized from trigonal planar uranyl nodes and triptycene-based hexacarboxylate ligands with variable arm lengths.A new chiral 3,6-connected nuc net was observed in NU-1350,while the extended versions of the ligand led to 3-fold catenated mOFs(NU-1351 and NU-1352)with rare 3,6-connected cml-c3 *** differences in the topology of NU-1350 and NU-1351/NU-1352 could be attributed to the slight distortions of the shorter linker in the former from the ideal trigonal prism geometry to an octahedral geometry when coordinated to the trigonal planar uranyl nodes.

Comparative Study of the Antioxidant Activity of Two Popular Green Tea Beverages Available in the Local market of Saudi Arabia

Antioxidants have numerous applications due to their multiple roles in diminishing harmful effects of oxidative stress. The objective of this work was to highlight the importance of green tea by evaluating the antioxidant activity of the most popular green tea brands in Saudi Arabia, Lipton and Rabea. To our knowledge, no studies have so far been done to estimate the antioxidant activity of these brands. To determine the antioxidant activities of these two brands, 10 mg/ml of each brand was extracted and their total phenolic content (TPC), 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (dPPH) radical scavenging activity, hydrogen peroxide scavenging activity, ferric reducing power and ferrous ion chelating effect were measured. The TPC of Lipton tea was 678.7 υg of gallic acid equivalents (GAE)/10mg, whereas in Rabea tea, the TPC was 647.1 υg GAE/10mg. The presence study indicated that there were no significant differences in total phenolic contents and the percentage inhibition as shown in dPPH and H2O2 assays among Lipton and Rabea green teas. moreover, it was found that all assays have exhibited high antioxidant activity in both green teas. In conclusion, our study showed evidence for evenness and stability of the antioxidant activity of the two commercial green teas available in the markets of Saudi Arabia. Continued researches are needed to further the current knowledge on the health-promoting effects of this popular beverage using different supplements by different mechanisms.

In this work, thermosetting resin, epoxy and fibre loading were used in optimizing the strength at which ABS/epoxy coated kenaf fibre (EKF) composites would perform apparently during mechanical stress. Kenaf bast fibres were resin coated before incorporated into engineering thermoplastic ABS at its processing temperature (230°C), cured in-situ at internal mixer and later compression moulded at 210°C under 65 kg/cm2pressure. The results showed the optimum level of tensile strength with thermoset and fibre loading as well as increase in strong interfacial bonding while the hardness values increased with increasing thermosetting and fibre contents. Both the tensile and flexural modulus apparently increased as the fibre contents increased.

Transition metal sulfides have been regarded as promising anode materials for sodium-ion batteries(SIB).However,they face the challenges of poor electronic conductivity and large volume change,which result in capacity fade and low rate *** this work,a composite containing ultrasmall CoS(~7 nm)nanoparticles embedded in heteroatom(N,S,and O)-doped carbon was synthesized by an efficient one-step sulfidation process using a Co(Salen)*** ultrasmall CoS nanoparticles are beneficial for mechanical stability and shortening Na-ions diffusion ***,the N,S,and O-doped defect-rich carbon provides a robust and highly conductive framework enriched with active sites for sodium storage as well as mitigates volume expansion and polysulfide *** anode for SIB,CoS@HdC exhibits a high initial capacity of 906 mA h g^(-1)at 100 mA g^(-1)and a stable long-term cycling life with over 1000 cycles at 500 mA g^(-1),showing a reversible capacity of 330 mA h g^(-1).meanwhile,the CoS@HdC anode is proven to maintain its structural integrity and compositional reversibility during ***,Na-ion full batteries based on the CoS@HdC anode and Na_(3)V_(2)(PO_(4))_(3)cathode demonstrate a stable cycling behavior with a reversible specific capacity of~200 m A h g^(-1)at least for 100 ***,advanced synchrotron operando X-ray diffraction,ex-situ X-ray absorption spectroscopy,and comprehensive electrochemical tests reveal the structural transformation and the Co coordination chemistry evolution of the CoS@HdC during cycling,providing fundamental insights into the sodium storage mechanism.

Background:male sex workers are at high-risk for acquisition of sexually transmitted infections(STIs),including human immunodeficiency virus(HIV).We quantified incidence rates of STIs and identified their time-varying predictors among male sex workers in mexico ***:From January 2012 to may 2014,male sex workers recruited from the largest HIV clinic and community sites in mexico City were tested for chlamydia,gonorrhea,syphilis,hepatitis,and HIV at baseline,6-months,and *** nee rates with 95%bootstrapped confide nee limits were *** examined potential timevarying predictors using generalized estimating equations for a population averaged ***:Among 227 male sex workers,median age was 24 and baseline HIV prevalence was 32%.Incidence rates(per 100 person-years)were as follows:HIV[5.23;95%confidence interval(CI):2.15-10.31],chlamydia(5.15;95%CI:2.58-9.34),gonorrhea(3.93;95%CI:1.88-7.83),syphilis(13.04;95%CI:8.24-19.94),hepatitis B(2.11;95%CI:0.53-4.89),hepatitis C(0.95;95%CI:0.00-3.16),any STI except HIV(30.99;95%CI:21.73-40.26),and any STI including HIV(50.08;95%CI:37.6062.55).In the multivariable-adjusted model,incident STI(excluding HIV)were lower among those who reported consistently using condoms during anal and vaginal intercourse(odds ratio=0.03,95%CI:0.00-0.68)compared to those who reported inconsistently using condoms during anal and vaginal ***:Incidence of STIs is high among male sex workers in mexico *** condom use is an important protective factor for STIs,and should be an important comp on ent of interventions to prevent incide nt infect i ons.
