Background: Inflammatory gingival enlargement is a more common clinical feature with.orth.dontic th.rapy th.n oth.r features. Th.refore, th.s study was designed to th. evaluation of th. influence of fixed orth.dontic treatment duration on th. severity of inflammatory gingival enlargement (fixed orth.dontic induced gingival enlargements) and some properties of saliva. Material and Meth.ds: Th. sample size comprised 145 patients undergoing fixed orth.dontic treatment for at least 6 month. aged 13 - 32 years. Th.y were divided according to orth.dontic treatment duration into th.ee groups. Group I (n = 47) included th. patients wh. were treated for less th.n 6 month., group II (n = 51) included th. patients wh. were treated for a period of 6 - 12 month., and group III (n = 47) included th. patients wh. were managed for more th.n 12 month.. Data were obtained from th. outpatient clinics, college of dentistry, King Kh.lid University, Abh., Saudi Arabia, and some dental centers in Sana’a city, th. Republic of Yemen. Th.s study was conducted from October 2021 G to January 2022 G. Clinical examination was done for plaque index (PLI), gingival index (GI), and gingival enlargement indexes (GEI). Saliva was collected in sterile test tubes th.n salivary flow and ph.were measured. Statistical analysis was done with.SPSS (version 23) and ANOVA test to evaluate th. impact of orth.dontic treatment duration on th. severity of inflammatory gingival enlargement and some properties of saliva. Results: Th. statistical analysis demonstrated th. h.gh.st mean plaque index (PLI) was among groups III and I participants wh.reas, th. h.gh.st mean gingival index and mean gingival enlargement were among groups II and III participants. Th. present study revealed an increase in salivary flow with.decreased salivary ph.values with.an increase in orth.dontic th.rapy duration. Preparation and Ch.racterization of Oligomer from Recycled PET and Evaluated as a Corrosion Inh.bitor for C-Steel Material in 0.1 M h.l

Polyeth.lene tereph.h.late waste (PET) was depolymerized by th.odiglycol into th.oglycolyzed product. Th. product was ch.racterized by FTIR and 1h.MR spectroscopy and th. th.rmal properties (TGA, DTA) sh.wed th.t th. prepared compound was th.rmally stable until 250°C. Th. efficiency of th. prepared corrosion inh.bitor for carbon steel was measured by using acid media (0.1 h.l) as corrosive environment and th. inh.bitor concentration was (0, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 ppm). Th. electroch.mical tech.ique used Tafel plot to measure th. efficiency of inh.bitor. Factors effect on th. rate of corrosion like temperature (298, 308, 318, 328 K) and concentration (10, 20, 30, 40, 50 ppm) of inh.bitor were studied. From th. obtained results many factors were calculated th.t determined th. efficiency of th. inh.bitor like corrosion rate, ch.rge transfer resistance and inh.bitor efficiency. It was observed th.t th. corrosion rate and ch.rge transfer of th. carbon steel for th. inh.bitor increase with.increase of temperature and decrease with.increase of th. inh.bitor concentration in th. same temperature. Th. results sh.wed th.t th. inh.bitor h.d h.gh.inh.bition in reducing th. corrosion rate. Th. inh.bition efficiency (% IE) reach.d 97.1% for th. 40 ppm concentration at 308 K.

Efficient Th.rmal Stabilization of Polyvinyl Ch.oride with.Tannin-Ca Complex as Bio-Based Th.rmal Stabilizer

Th. potential use of tannin-Ca complex derived from tannins as bio-based th.rmal stabilizer and antioxidant additive for polyvinyl ch.oride (PVC) was investigated in th.s work. For th.s project, Reapak B-NT/7060 was applied as reference th.rmal stabilizer. Variable compositions: (1, 2, and 3) part per h.ndred ratio (ph.) of tannin-Ca complex in th. presence of 10 ph. Dioctyl ph.h.late (DOP) as plasticizer in all PVC formulations were prepared by melt mixing by internal mixer at 165°C. Tannin-Ca complex was ch.racterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) analysis as well as by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Th. tannin derivative stabilization efficiency under inert atmosph.re was determined by using th.rmogravimetric analysis (TGA). In addition, its th.rmal stabilization effect h.s been assessed in air as oxidizing atmosph.re by DSC in dynamic conditions. According to TGA th.rmograms, th. initial degradation temperature (Ti) and optimum degradation temperature (Top?) for th. main degradation stage of PVC stabilized with.th.s derivative were about 280°C and 310°C, respectively. Wh.le th.se were about 255°C and 293°C, respectively for PVC stabilized with.commercial th.rmal stabilizer. Global results of TGA, DSC, SEM and EDX sh.w th.t th. tannin-Ca complex provides th. best properties and results in stabilizing both.against th.rmal degradation and th.rmal oxidation degradation of PVC.

Tannin-Ca Complex as Green Th.rmal Stabilizer Additive for PVC: Viscoelastic Properties

Th.s study investigated th. viscoelastic and rh.ometeric properties of PVC stabilized with.tannin-Ca complex as totally bio-based th.rmal stabilizer. Dynamic mech.nical th.rmal analysis (DMTA) used to ch.racterize th. viscoelastic properties of PVC samples obtained by th.rmal mixing of PVC with.th.ee composition percentages (1.0, 2.0, and 3.0) part per h.ndred ratios (ph.) of tannin-Ca complex with.th.s polymer. Th. torque rh.ometery test used to monitor th. effect of tannins derivative on th. th.rmal stability and mixing properties of PVC formulations during samples processing. For th.t purpose, PVC sample with.2 ph. commercial th.rmal stabilizer (Reapak B-NT/ 7060) was used for comparison and considered as reference samples. Before th. glass transition temperature of PVC at 30°C - 60°C, th. DMTA curves sh.w th.t th. values of storage modulus and tan delta of PVC samples stabilized with.tannin derivative were very similar with.th.se of PVC sample stabilized with.commercial th.rmal stabilizer. Th. glass transition temperature (Tg) of PVC stabilized with.commercial th.rmal stabilizer and with.tannin-Ca complex occurred at about 76°C. In a sequence, after th. glass transition region of PVC samples, th. DMTA scans confirmed th.t th. PVC samples with.2 ph. tannin-Ca complex h.ve relatively longer flowing stage wh.ch.occurs at lower temperatures by 18°C per th.t of PVC sample stabilized with.commercial stabilizer. Global results of th. torque rh.ometery wh.ch.h.ve suitable plateau stages and th. DMTA sh.w th.t th. processing th.rmal stability and th.rmal flexibility of PVC are clearly increased with.th. incorporation of tannin-Ca complex. All th. PVC formulations with.tannins-Ca complex sh.w excellent viscoelastic properties wh.ch.were found to be sligh.ly best or much.closed to th.se obtained for PVC stabilized with.commercial th.rmal stabilization.
