This essay investigates Fray Ramon Pane's text from 1500 CE,Relacion acerca de las antiguedades de los Indios,within the literary context of the *** examines cultural frameworks and general literary knowledge that would have been understood by Pane within the structures of Spanish and Hieronymite *** essay compares the framework and content of Pane's work with the known paradoxographies of Aelian and Aristotle,focusing on the emphasis placed by Pane on transformation via linguistic translation/interpretation and mythological animal *** my analysis of the original text,I outline Pane's transliteration of Taino mythology and culture,emphasizing the significance of this New World text itself within the paradoxographical genre,a genre that had generally been in disuse long before Europeans arrived in the *** I base my analysis in the study of genre,my general focus is the inclusion and importance of transformation and animal lore within Taino culture,and their transliteration into a little-used European genre by a little-known Spanish friar.

It is well known that transit through the epididymis involves an increase in the compaction of sperm chromatin, which acquires fully condensed status at the caput epididymidis. The purpose of this study was to compare the terminal deoxyribonucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end-labelling （TUNEL） assay, the comet assay, the sperm chromatin structure assay （SCSA） and the sperm chromatin dispersion （SCD） test by analysing spermatozoa from the caput and cauda epididymidis in order to demonstrate the ability of each technique to discriminate between different degrees of sperm maturity related to chromatin compaction and DNA fragmentation. Our results suggest that some populations of DNA-fragmented spermatozoa associated with immature sperm can only be identified using the comet assay and the SCSA but not with the SCD test or the TUNEL assay.

Scavenger receptor class B type Ⅰ (SR-BI) is an important member of the scavenger receptor family of integral membrane glycoproteins. This review highlights studies in SR-BI knockout mice, which concern the role of SR-BI in cholesterol and steroid metabolism. SR-BI in hepatocytes is the sole molecule involved in selective uptake of cholesteryl esters from high-density lipoprotein (HDL). SR-BI plays a physiological role in binding and uptake of native apolipoprotein B (apoB)-containing lipoproteins by hepatocytes, which identif ies SR-BI as a multipurpose player in lipid uptake from the blood circulation into hepatocytes in mice. In adrenocortical cells, SR-BI mediates the selective uptake of HDL-cholesteryl esters, which is eff iciently coupled to the synthesis of glucocorticoids (i.e. corticosterone). SR-BI knockout mice suffer from adrenal glucocorticoid insuff iciency, which suggests that functional SR-BI protein is necessary for optimal adrenal steroidogenesis in mice. SR-BI in macrophages plays a dual role in cholesterol metabolism as it is able to take up cholesterol associated with HDL and apoBcontaining lipoproteins and can possibly facilitate cholesterol efflux to HDL. Absence of SR-BI is associated with thrombocytopenia and altered thrombosis susceptibility, which suggests a novel role for SR-BI in regulating platelet number and function in mice. Transgenic expression of cholesteryl ester transfer protein in humanized SR-BI knockout mice normalizes hepatic delivery of HDL-cholesteryl esters. However, other pathologies associated with SR-BI def iciency, i.e. increased atherosclerosis susceptibility, adrenal glucocorticoid insuffi ciency, and impaired platelet function are not normalized, which suggests an important role for SR-BI in cholesterol and steroid metabolism in man. In conclusion, generation of SR-BI knockout mice has signif icantly contributed to our knowledge of the physiological role of SR-BI. Studies using these mice have identif ied SR-BI as a

Electron backscatter diffraction(EBSD)and transmission electron microscopy were used to determine the presence of retained austenite and displacive-type phase transformation in the stir zone of friction stir welding(FSW).Severe plastic deformations occurred in the stir zone where there was an increase in the temperature attributed to the FSW process and subsequently a grain *** the recrystallization phenomena,the formation of grain evolution development in steels was resolved using *** addition,a tensile test was carried out in order to reveal the results of mechanical *** was found that the fracture zone occurred in the stir zone with an ultimate tensile strength of 587 MPa,a decrease of 267 MPa compared with that of the base *** this result,it is evident that the fracture exhibits numerous elongated dimples,distributed homogeneously,and certain locations contain cleavage fractures due to differences in the microstructure of the base *** profile tests of the welding regions were conducted,and the results showed that the stir zone was present with elevated hardness(near 350 HV).Characterization techniques revealed that the austenite-to-martensite transformation occurred in the stir zone,resulting in a loss of mechanical properties in the joint.

The iron concentrate from Hercules Mine of Coahuila,Mexico,which mainly contained pyrite and pyrrhotite,was treated by the bioleaching process using native strain Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans （***） to determine the ability of these bacteria on the leaching of *** native bacteria were isolated from the iron concentrate of the *** bioleaching experiments were carried out in shake flasks to analyze the effects of pH values,pulp density,and the ferrous sulfate concentration on the bioleaching *** results obtained by microbial kinetic analyses for the evaluation of some aspects of zinc leaching show that the native bacteria ***,which is enriched with a 9K Silverman medium under the optimum conditions of pH 2.0,20 g/L pulp density,and 40 g/L FeSO4,increases the zinc extraction considerably observed by monitoring during15 d,i.e.,the zinc concentration has a decrease of about 95% in the iron concentrate.

The paper reviews and extends an emerging body of theoretical results on deep learning including the conditions under which it can be exponentially better than shallow learning. A class of deep convolutional networks represent an important special case of these conditions, though weight sharing is not the main reason for their exponential advantage. Implications of a few key theorems are discussed, together with new results, open problems and conjectures.

Background:The activation of the medial olivocochlear reflex reduces the cochlear gain,which is manifested perceptually as decreased auditory ***,it has remained unclear whether the extent of this suppression varies according to the cochlear region *** we aims to assess the magnitude of contralateral efferent suppression across human cochlea,at low levels,and its impact on hearing ***:Assuming that acoustic stimulation activates the contralateral medial olivocochlear reflex,we evaluated the magnitude of the suppressive effect as a function of frequency in 17 subjects with normal *** thresholds were measured for bursts tones of various durations(10,100,and 500 ms)and frequencies(250,500,1000,4000,and 8000 Hz)in the presence or absence of contralateral white noise at 60 d B ***:We found that contralateral noise raised the absolute threshold for the burst tones *** effect was greater at lower than higher frequencies(3.85 d B at 250 Hz vs.2.22 d B at 8000 Hz).Conclusions:Our findings suggest that in humans,the magnitude of this suppression varies according to the cochlear region stimulated,with a greater effect towards the apex(lower frequencies)than the base(higher frequencies)of the cochlea.

Aim： To present a simple technique during penile prosthesis implantation that promotes the perception of increased phallic length. Methods： The penoscrotal web is defined. A ＂check mark＂ incision is made with excision of scrotal tissue. Excellent exposure is provided for implantation of the cylinders, pump and reservoir. Wound closure is performed longitudinally. Results： This technique is a modified extension of surgeries described in the pediatric literature for webbed penis. Loss of penile length following penile implantation surgery is worrisome for patients suffering from erectile dysfunction （ED）. This technique helps with patient satisfaction, cosmetic results, and improves perception of penile length. Conclusion： Ventral phalloplasty is a safe, technically simple procedure that may be performed in concert with penile prosthesis implantation or as a stand alone procedure under＇certain circumstances.
