Hepatitis C virus-specific cytotoxic T cell response restoration after treatment-induced hepatitis C virus control

Hepatitis C virus(HCV)-specific cytotoxic T cell(CTL) response plays a major role in viral control during spontaneous infection resolution. These cells develop an exhausted and pro-apoptotic status during chronic onset, being unable to get rid of HCV. The role of this response in contributing to sustained viral response(SVR) after anti-HCV is controversial. Recent studies show that after successful interferon-based anti-HCV treatment, HCV traces are still detectable and this correlates with a peak of HCV-specific CTL response activation, probably responsible for maintaining SVR by subsequent complete HCV clearing. Moreover, SVR patients' serum is still able to induce HCV infection in na?ve chimpanzees, suggesting that the infection could be under the control of the immune system after a successful treatment, being transmissible in absence of this adaptive response. At least theoretically, treatmentinduced viral load decrease could allow an effective HCV-specific CTL response reestablishment. This effect has been recently described with anti-HCV interferonfree regimes, based on direct-acting antivirals. Nevertheless, this is to some extent controversial with interferon-based therapies, due to the detrimental immunoregulatory α-interferon effect on T cells. Moreover, HCV-specific CTL response features during anti-HCV treatment could be a predictive factor of SVR that could have clinical implications in patient management. In this review, the recent knowledge about the role of HCV-specific CTL response in the development of SVR after anti-HCV treatment is discussed.

Low field microwave absorption and magnetization process in CoFeNi electroplated wires

Ferromagnetic resonance （FMR）, Ferromagnetic antirresonance （FMAR） and low field magnetoimpedance （MI） are the characteristic features of high frequency losses in applied fields. While some results on FMR and FMAR in CoFeNi electroplated wires were reported earlier, here we present microwave absorption in CuBe wires electroplated by 1 μm FeCoNi magnetic layer at very low fields. These data are comparatively analysed together with longitudinal hysteresis loops in order to reveal the correlation between power absorption and magnetization processes. Microwave studies are made by using the cavity perturbation method at 9.65 GHz for a DC field parallel to the sample axis, and with microwave magnetic field hrf parallel or perpendicular to the wire axis. Two peaks have been observed in all samples, one is due to FMR, and the other is, at very low fields, related to MI. The MI peaks represent minima in power absorption. By comparing with the hysteresis loop we remark the close correspondence between the MI phenomena in the axial mode and the concomitant magnetization process.

Multi-agent system(MAS)models have been increasingly applied to the simulation of complex phenomena in different areas,providing successful and credible *** behavior related to a specific urban activity(i.e.,recreation activities in a park,using bicycle for mobility purposes)can be modeled as an agent(actor)with several affinities and preferences which are dependent on aspects that affect the activity.A particular application of a MAS approach is in area of urban policy design,in which policies should be designed considering citizens needs,preferences and *** an open space in a city is available(i.e.,an industry is moved to an industrial area),a land use policy should contribute to identify the new use for the urban *** are different land use policies that can be applied depending on which services or facilities must be empowered in the *** is important to identify the correct policy in order to satisfy present citizens needs but considering also the future needs in a social changing context.A socio-technological simulation model has been developed to allow citizens to get a better understanding of the urban problem,its dynamics and explore the sustainability of the different solutions.,enhancing citizens to participate in the urban decisions through new technologies(i.e.,e-participation).This paper illustrates an open space MAS simulation model for land use design policies in which citizens can check their opinion and get a better understanding of the different choices and its acceptability by the community considering not only present neighborhood profiles,but also future neighborhood *** is the first step before the development of the final software including a user friendly interface to let citizens with different cultural profiles to perform simulations as an essential and neutral tool to reach consensus during the decision-making process in urban policy design.

Hepatitis C virus(HCV)infection is an excellent immunological model for understanding the mechanisms developed by non-cytopathic viruses and tumors to evade the adaptative immune *** antigen-specific cytotoxic T cell response is essential for keeping HCV under control,but during persistent infection,these cells become exhausted or even *** exhaustion process is progressive and depends on the infection duration and level of *** high antigenic load and long duration of infection,T cells become extremely exhausted and ultimately disappear due to *** development of exhaustion involves the impairment of positive co-stimulation induced by regulatory cytokines,such as transforming growth factor beta *** cytokine downregulates tumor necrosis factor receptor(TNFR)-associated factor 1(TRAF1),the signal transducer of the T cell co-stimulatory molecule TNFR superfamily member 9(known as 4-1BB).This impairment correlates with the low reactivity of T cells and an exhaustion *** with interleukin-7 in vitro restores TRAF1 expression and rescues T cell effector *** process of TRAF1 loss and its in vitro recovery is hierarchical,and more affected by severe disease *** conclusion,TRAF1 dynamics on T cells define a new pathogenic model that describes some aspects of the natural history of HCV,and sheds light on novel immunotherapy strategies for chronic viral infections and cancer.

Modeling shoreline sand waves on the coasts of Namibia and Angola

The southwestern（SW） coast of Africa（Namibia and Angola） features long sandy beaches and a wave climate dominated by energetic swells from the Southsouthwest（SSW）,therefore approaching the coast with a very high *** images reveal that along that coast there are many shoreline sand waves with wavelengths ranging from 2 to 8 km.A more detailed study,including a Fourier analysis of the shoreline position,yields the wavelengths（among this range） with the highest spectral density ***,it becomes apparent that at least some of the sand waves are dynamically active rather than being controlled by the geological setting.A morphodynamic model is used to test the hypothesis that these sand waves could emerge as free morphodynamic instabilities of the coastline due to the obliquity in wave *** is found that the period of the incident water waves,T;,is crucial to establish the tendency to stability or instability,instability increasing for decreasing period,whilst there is some discrepancy in the observed *** results for T;= 7-8 s clearly show the tendency for the coast to develop free sand waves at about 4 km wavelength within a few years,which migrate to the north at rates of 0.2-0.6 km yr;.For larger T;or steeper profiles,the coast is stable but sand waves originated by other mechanisms can propagate downdrift with little decay.

Hepatitis C virus(HCV)infection affects about 170 million people worldwide and it is a major cause of liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular *** is a hepatotropic non-cytopathic virus able to persist in a great percentage of infected hosts due to its ability to escape from the immune *** damage and disease progression during HCV infection are driven by both viral and host ***,adaptive immune response carries out an essential task in controllingnon-cytopathic viruses because of its ability to recognize infected cells and to destroy them by cytopathic mechanisms and to eliminate the virus by non-cytolytic *** is able to impair this response by several means such as developing escape mutations in neutralizing antibodies and in T cell receptor viral epitope recognition sites and inducing HCV-specific cytotoxic T cell anergy and *** impair HCV-specific T cell reactivity,HCV affects effector T cell regulation by modulating T helper and Treg response and by impairing the balance between positive and negative co-stimulatory molecules and between pro-and antiapoptotic *** this review,the role of adaptive immune response in controlling HCV infection and the HCV mechanisms to evade this response are reviewed.

Using classification assignment rules to assess land-use change impacts on forest biodiversity at local-to-national scales

Background： ecosystem representation is one key component in assessing the biodiversity impacts of land-use changes that will irrevocably alter natural ecosystems. We show how detailed vegetation plot data can be used to assess the potential impact of inundation by a proposed hydroelectricity dam in the Mokihinui gorge, New Zealand, on representation of natural forests. Specifically we ask： 1） How well are the types of forest represented Locally, regionally, and nationally; and 2） How does the number of distinct communities （i.e. beta diversity） in the target catchment compare with other catchments nationally？ Methods： For local and regional comparisons plant species composition was recorded on 45 objectively located 400 m2 vegetation plots established in each of three gorges, with one being the proposed inundation area of the Mokihinui lower gorge. The fuzzy classification framework of noise clustering was used to assign these plots to a specific alliance and association of a pre-existing national-scale classification. NationaLly, we examined the relationship between the number of alliances and associations in a catchment and either catchment size or the number of plots per catchment by fitting Generalised Additive Models. Results： The four alliances and five associations that were observed in the Mokihinui lower gorge arepresent in the region but limited locally. One association was narrowly distributed nationally, but is the mostfrequent association in the Mokihinui lower gorge; inundation may have consequences of national importance to its long-term persistence. That the Mokihinui lower gorge area had nearly twice as many plots that could not be assigned to pre- existing alliances and associations than either the Mokihinui upper or the Karamea lower gorges and proportionally more than the national dataset emphasises the compositional distinctiveness of this gorge. Nonlinear Magnetoimpedance effect in FeCoNi Ferromagnetic Tubes

The very high (up to 820% of the magnetoimpedance ratio) and sensitive nonlinear giant magnetoimpedance effect has been studied in the FeCo1Ni magnetic tubes electroplated onto Cu(3%)Be nonmagnetic wirefor frequencies from 1-10MHz. Special annealing was carried out in order to induce the magnetic anisotropy. The high harmonic generation was observed and the harmonics show larger variations with the external magnetic field than the fundamental frequency. The super high sensitivity of the harmonics is promising as regards the increase of the sensitivity of magnetoimpedance sensors.

The importance of the bite angle of metal(Ⅲ) salen catalysts in the sequestration of CO_(2) with epoxides in mild conditions

Located in the middle of the fever to solve the problem of CO_(2)emissions in the environment,CO_(2)sequestration by reaction with epoxides is one of the key tools,as it not only fixes CO_(2),but also makes it functional by leading to cyclic ***,the results are focused specifically on the formation of cyclic organic carbonates catalyzed by metal-salen complexes,previously achieved with yttrium and scandium,that are compared with those of analogous complexes containing metals from the first transition series,such as cobalt or *** functional theory(DFT)calculations allow to determine whether this switch of metals will be feasible and provide the basis for instigating future experimental efforts in this *** calculations analyzing the structure and electronics of the catalysts allow us to give not only a clear picture of whether these catalysts will be efficient,but also allow us to assess which metal center is the most convenient and/or whether the catalytic reaction will occur under mild *** buried volume calculations with the SambVca packages shed light on the different catalytic pockets of monometallic first row transition metals *** III salen *** predictive catalysis results show that the bite O-M-O angle plays an essential role in the catalysis.
