This paper aims to evaluate the individual and joint toxicities of cadmium sulfate （CdSO4） and α-naphthoflavone （ANF） in zebrafish embryos. As a result, CdSO4 caused both lethal and sub-lethal effects, such as 24 h post-fertilization （hpf） death and 72 hpf delayed hatching. However, ANF only caused sub-lethal effects, including 48 hpf cardiac edema and 72 hpf delayed hatching. Taking 24 hpf death and 48 hpf cardiac edema as endpoints, the toxicities of CdSO4 and ANF were significantly enhanced by each other. Consistently, both CdSO4 and ANF caused significant oxidative stress, including decreases in the reduced glutathione （GSH） level, inhibition of superoxide dis- mutase （SOD） activity, as well as increases in malondialdehyde （MDA） content in zebrafish embryos, but these mixtures produced much more significant alterations on the biomarkers. Co-treatment of CdSO4 and ANF significantly down-regulated the mRNA level of multidrug resistance-associated protein （mrp） 1 and cytochrome P450 （cyp） la, which constituted the protective mechanisms for zebraflsh embryos to chemical toxins. In conclusion, co-treatment of CdSO4 and ANF exhibited a much more severe damage in zebraflsh embryos than individual treatment. Meanwhile, production of oxidative stress and altered expression of mrpl and cypla could be important components of such joint toxicity.

Joint Analysis Method for Major Genes Controlling Multiple Correlated Quantitative Traits

Based on the major gene and polygene mixed inheritance model for multiple correlated quantitative traits, the authors proposed a new joint segregation analysis method of major gene controlling multiple correlated quantitative traits, which include major gene detection and its effect and variation estimation. The effect and variation of major gene are estimated by the maximum likelihood method implemented via expectation-maximization （EM） algorithm. Major gene is tested with the likelihood ratio （LR） test statistic. Extensive simulation studies showed that joint analysis not only increases the statistical power of major gene detection but also improves the precision and accuracy of major gene effect estimates. An example of the plant height and the number of tiller of F2 population in rice cross Duonieai x Zhonghua 11 was used in the illustration. The results indicated that the genetic difference of these two traits in this cross refers to only one pleiotropic major gene. The additive effect and dominance effect of the major gene are estimated as -21.3 and 40.6 cm on plant height, and 22.7 and -25.3 on number of tiller, respectively. The major gene shows overdominance for plant height and close to complete dominance for number of tillers.

Prevalence of overweight and obesity has continued to increase among women of child bearing age all over the world in recent decades. Its impact on short-term and long-term maternal and fetal outcomes continued to grow, such as increased risk of gestational diabetes mellitus, gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, fetal macrosomia, perinatal mortality and chance for cesarean deliveries） What＇s more, underweight before pregnancy also has some hazardous effects on pregnant women and fetus, such as increased risk of delivering infants small for gestational age and preterm delivery.2 The present study determined the prevalence of each body mass index （BMI） group of an obstetric population of the mainland of China, and effects of the maternal pre-pregnancy BMI on multiple antepartum, intrapartum and neonatal outcomes.

In this work,we optimized a clean,versatile,compact source of soft X-ray radiation(Ex-ray∼3 keV)with an yield per shot up to 7×10^11 photons/shot in a plasma generated by the interaction of high-contrast femtosecond laser pulses of relativistic intensity(Ilas∼10^18-10^19 W/cm^2)with supersonic argon gas *** high-resolution X-ray spectroscopy approaches,the dependence of main characteristics(temperature,density and ionization composition)and the emission efficiency of the X-ray source on laser pulse parameters and properties of the gas medium was *** optimal conditions,when the X-ray photon yield reached a maximum value,have been found when the argon plasma has an electron temperature of Te∼185 eV,an electron density of Ne∼7×10^20 cm^-3 and an average charge of Z∼*** such a plasma,a coefficient of conversion to soft X-ray radiation with energies Ex-ray∼3.1(±0.2)keV reaches 8.57×10^-5,and no processes leading to the acceleration of electrons to MeV energies *** was found that the efficiency of the X-ray emission of this plasma source is mainly determined by the focusing *** confirmed experimentally that the angular distribution of the X-ray radiation is isotropic,and its intensity linearly depends on the energy of the laser pulse,which was varied in the range of 50-280 *** also found that the yield of X-ray photons can be notably increased by,for example,choosing the optimal laser pulse duration and the inlet pressure of the gas jet.
