Sports video summarization and adaptation for application in mobile communication

Sports video appeals to large audiences due to its high commercial potentials. Automatically extracting useful semantic information and generating highlight summary from sports video to facilitate users' accessing requirements is an important problem, especially in the forthcoming broadband mobile communication and the need for users to access their multimedia information of interest from anywhere at anytime with their most convenient digital equipments. A system to generate highlight summaries oriented for mobile applications is introduced, which includes highlight extraction and video adaptation. In this system, several highlight extraction techniques are provided for field sports video and racket sports video by using multi-modal information. To enhance users' viewing experience and save bandwidth, 3D animation from highlight segment is also generated. As an important procedure to make video analysis results universally applicable, video transcoding techniques are applied to adapt the video for mobile communication environment and user preference. Experimental results are encouraging and show the advantage and feasibility of the system for multimedia content personalization, enhancement and adaptation to meet different user preference and network/device requirements.

Effect of hydraulic retention time and pH on oxidation of ferrous iron in simulated ferruginous acid mine drainage treatment with inoculation of iron-oxidizing bacteria

The effect of hydraulic retention time (HRT) and pH on the biooxidation of ferrous iron during simulated acid mine drainage (AMD) treatment was *** simulated AMD was highly acidic (pH 2.5), rich in iron (about 1700 mg/L) and copper (about 200 mg/L), and contained high concentrations of sulfate (about 4700 mg/L).The biooxidation of ferrous iron was studied in a laboratory-scale upflow packed bed bioreactor (PBR).The HRT was shortened stepwise from 40 h to 20 h, 13 h, and 8 h under the acidic environment at a pH value of ***, the influent pH value was changed from 2.2 to 1.2 at a constant suitable *** and microbial community structure analyses were performed on water samples and stuffing collected from the bioreactor under different *** results indicate that the efficiency of ferrous iron oxidation gradually decreased with the decrease of HRT, and when the HRT exceeded 13 h, ferrous iron in AMD was almost completely *** addition, the best efficiency of ferrous iron oxidation was achieved at the influent pH value of *** community structure analyses show that Leptospirillum is the predominant genus attached in the bioreactor, and low influent pH values are suitable for the growth of Leptospirillum.

Energy release characteristics of PTFE/Al/TiH_(2) reactive jet with different TiH_2 content

Titanium hydride(TiH_(2)), a promising high-energy additive, is doped into PTFE/Al to optimize the energy output structure of the reactive jet and strive for better aftereffect damage ability to the target. Six types of PTFE/Al/TiH_(2) reactive liners with different TiH_(2) content are prepared by the molding and sintering method. The energy release characteristics of PTFE/Al/TiH_(2) reactive jet are tested by the transient explosion energy test, and are characterized from pressure and temperature. The reaction delay time,pressure history, and temperature history of the energy release process are obtained, then the actual value of released energy and reaction efficiency of the reactive jet are calculated. The results show that the peak pressure and temperature of the PTFE/Al/TiH_(2) jet initially increase and then decrease with increasing TiH_(2) content. When the TiH_(2) content is 10%, the actual value of released energy and reaction efficiency increased by 24% and 6.4%, respectively, compared to the PTFE/Al jet. The reaction duration of the reactive material is significantly prolonged as the TiH_(2) content increased from 0% to 30%. Finally,combined with the energy release behaviors of PAT material and the dynamic deformation process of liner, the enhancement mechanism of TiH_(2) on energy release of the reactive jet is expounded.

High frequency pulsating voltage injection method is a good candidate for detecting the initial rotor position of permanent magnet synchronous ***,traditional methods require a large number of filters,which leads to the deterioration of system stability and dynamic *** order to solve these problems,a new signal demodulation method is proposed in this *** proposed new method can directly obtain the amplitude of high-frequency current,thus eliminating the use of filters,improving system stability and dynamic performance and saving the work of adjusting filter *** addition,a new magnetic polarity detection method is proposed,which is robust to current measurement ***,experiments verify the effectiveness of the method.

Risk factors for operative morbidity and mortality in gastric cancer patients undergoing total gastrectomy

AIM： To study the risk factors for morbidity and mortality following total gastrectomy. METHODS： We retrospectively reviewed the records of 125 consecutive patients who underwent total gastrectomy for gastric cancer at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine between January 2003 and March 2008. RESULTS： The overall morbidity rate was 20.8% （27 patients） and the mortality rate was 3.2% （4 patients）. Morbidity rates were higher in patients aged over 60 [odds ratio （OR） 4.23 （95% confidence interval （CI） 1.09 to 12.05）], with preoperative comorbidity [with vs without, OR 1.25 （95% CI 1.13 to 8.12）], when the combined resection was performed [combined resection vs total gastrectomy only, OR 2.67 （95% CI 1.58 to 5.06）]. CONCLUSION： Age, preoperative comorbidity and combined resection were with the rate of morbidity gastric cancer. independently associated after total gastrectomy for

Acidithiobacillus caldus is one of the dominant sulfur-oxidizing bacteria in bioleaching reactors. It plays the essential role in maintaining the high acidity and oxidation of reduced inorganic sulfur compounds during bioleaching process. In this report, the complete genome sequence of A. caldus SM-1 is presented. The genome is composed of one chromosome （2,932,225 bp） and four plasmids （pLAtcl, pLAtc2, pLAtc3, pLAtcm） and it is rich in repetitive sequences （accounting for 11% of the total genome）, which are often associated with transposable genetic elements. In particular, twelve copies of ISAtfe and thirty-seven copies of ISAtcl have been identified, suggesting that they are active transposons in the genome. A. caldus SM-1 encodes all enzymes for the central metabolism and the assimilation of carbon compounds, among which 29 proteins/enzymes were identifiable with proteomic tools. The SM-1 fixes CO2 via the classical Calvin-Bassham--Benson （CBB） cycle, and can operate complete Embden-Meyerhof pathway （EMP）, pentose phosphate pathway （PPP）, and gluconeogenesis. It has an incomplete tricarboxylic acid cycle （TCA）. Four putative transporters involved in carbohydrate uptake were identified. Taken together, the results suggested that SM-1 was able to assimilate carbohydrates and this was subsequently confirmed experimentally because addition of 1% glucose or sucrose in basic salt medium significantly increased the growth of SM-1. It was concluded that the complete genome of SM-1 provided fundamental data for further investigation of its physiology and genetics, in addition to the carbon metabolism revealed in this study.

Design of dual-functional protic porous ionic liquids for boosting selective extractive desulfurization

Porous ionic liquids have demonstrated excellent performance in the field of separation, attributed to their high specific surface area and efficient mass transfer. Herein, task-specific protic porous ionic liquids(PPILs) were prepared by employing a novel one-step coupling neutralization reaction strategy for extractive desulfurization. The single-extraction efficiency of PPILs reached 75.0% for ***, adding aromatic hydrocarbon interferents resulted in a slight decrease in the extraction efficiency of PPILs(from 45.2% to 37.3%, 37.9%, and 33.5%), indicating the excellent extraction selectivity of PPILs. The experimental measurements and density functional theory calculations reveal that the surface channels of porous structures can selectively capture dibenzothiophene by the stronger electrophilicity(Eint(HS surface channel/DBT)=-39.8 kcal mol-1), and the multiple extraction sites of ion pairs can effectively enrich and transport dibenzothiophene from the oil phase into PPILs through π...π, C-H...π and hydrogen bonds interactions. Furthermore, this straightforward synthetic strategy can be employed in preparing porous liquids, offering new possibilities for synthesizing PPILs with tailored functionalities.
