Hemorrhagic hemangioma in the liver:A case report

Hemangioma is the most common type of benign tumor that arises in the liver. Although rupture and hemorrhage of hepatic hemangioma are rare complications, they can be the cause of mortality. The authors report a case of hemorrhagic hepatic hemangioma: in a 54-yearold woman who was admitted with epigastric *** had taken oral contraceptives several weeks *** results of a blood examination were normal. An abdominal computed tomography scan revealed a tumor in hepatic segment 4, and a hemorrhage inside the cystic mass was suspected. The mass was removed laparoscopically to confirm the tumor properties and control the hemorrhage. The pathologic findings of the resected mass were consistent with hepatic hemangioma with intratumoral hemorrhage. The patient was discharged 8 d after the surgery, without further complications or complaints, and the patient's condition was found to have improved during follow-up.

Background: minimally invasive surgery is becoming increasingly popular in the field of pancreatic surgery. However, there are few studies of robotic distal pancreatectomy(RDP) for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC). This study aimed to investigate the efficacy and feasibility of RDP for PDAC. Methods: Patients who underwent RDP or laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy(LDP) for PDAC between January 2015 and September 2020 were reviewed. Propensity score matching analyses were performed. Results: Of the 335 patients included in the study, 24 underwent RDP and 311 underwent LDP. A total of 21 RDP patients were matched 1:1 with LDP patients. RDP was associated with longer operative time(209.7 vs. 163.2 min;P = 0.003), lower open conversion rate(0% vs. 4.8%;P < 0.001), higher cost(15 722 vs. 12 699 dollars;P = 0.003), and a higher rate of achievement of an R0 resection margin(90.5% vs. 61.9%;P = 0.042). However, postoperative pancreatic fistula grade B or C showed no significant intergroup difference(9.5% vs. 9.5%). The median disease-free survival(34.5 vs. 17.3 months;P = 0.588) and overall survival(37.7 vs. 21.9 months;P = 0.171) were comparable between the groups. Conclusions: RDP is associated with longer operative time, a higher cost of surgery, and a higher likelihood of achieving R0 margins than LDP.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to review the clinical experience and performance of noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT) method, using cell-free DNAto detect chromosomes 21, 18, 13, X, and Y abnormalities in over 7910 clinical samples from South Korean population. Method: Pregnant women between 1st of November 2015 to 18th of February 2018, with obstetric clinical findings participated in the study. NIPT was performed based on masivelly parallel sequencing with 0.3× low coverage paired-end sequencing using cell-free DNA in maternal plasma. Further invasive prenatal testing was recommended for pregnant women with positive NIPT results. Results: Of the total 7910 participants, 7890 (99.75%) were tested for NIPT and the remaining 20 (0.25%) were below the Quality Control (QC) standards. T13, T18, XXX, XXY and XYY had 100% of sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive values (PPV) and accuracy. The overall sensitivity was 100% and specificity, PPV and accuracy of all chromosomal abnormalities with further validation were 99.92%, 94.25%, and, 99.92% respectively. Conclusion: Our NIPT results showed high positive predictive value for the detection of autosomal trisomies and sex chromosome aneuploidies in our sample cohort.

Sewage sludge(SS)is a residual/semi-solid material produced from industrial and municipal wastewater treatment *** contains a high content of lipids and earth alkaline metals that can be used as catalysts for various chemical applications;however,its valorization has rarely been the focus of *** study demonstrates that SS could be a promising raw material for biodiesel production and a biochar catalyst to promote the reaction kinetics of *** induced transesterification of the SS extract(SSE)was performed in comparison with the conventional homogeneous *** biochar was fabricated via *** highest yield(33.5 wt.%per SSE)of biodiesel production was achieved in 1 min of reaction at 305℃via thermally induced transesterification in the presence of SS biochar,while the yield of biodiesel from(trans)esterification with 5 wt.%H_(2)SO_(4)was less than 1%even after 24 *** reaction kinetics(min)of thermally induced transesterification was extraordinarily faster than that of conventional transesterification(3-24 h).The porous structure and high content of alkaline species in the SS biochar expedited the reaction ***,the integrated/hybridized process for thermally induced transesterification and pyrolysis of the solid residue of SS was experimentally proved for the valorization of SS in this *** that SS is being disposed of as a waste material and generates toxic chemicals in the environment,its valorization into value-added biodiesel and a catalyst could be an environmentally benign and sustainable technique.

Objective： To clarify the effects of acupuncture stimulation at Zusanli（ST 36） on the hormonal changes. Methods： Eight-week-old male C57BL/6 mice received acupuncture stimulation at acupoint ST 36 or Quchi（LI 11） once a day for 3 or 5 days in the acupuncture-stimulated groups, but not received in the normal group（n=6 in each group）. On day 3 or 5, animals were given 0.1 m L of charcoal orally with a bulbed steel needle, 30 min after the last acupuncture stimulation. Ten minutes later, mice were anesthetized, and the intestinal transit and the concentrations of vasoactive intestinal peptide（VIP）, motilin, ghrelin and gastrin in the serum were measured. Results： Compared to no acupuncture stimulation, acupuncture stimulation at ST 36 for 5 days increased the intestinal transit and down-regulated the concentration of VIP and up-regulated the concentrations of motilin, ghrelin and gastrin（P〈0.05 or 0.01）, whereas acupuncture stimulation at LI 11 did not change them significantly（P〉0.05）. Conclusion： Acupuncture stimulation at ST 36 for 5 days enhances the small intestinal motility and regulates the secretion of hormones related to small intestinal motility.

＜正＞ We examined POMC mRNA and beta - endorphin expression in mouse hypothalamus elicited by intraplantar formalin. POMC mRNA increased at 2 hr after injection,and returned to control level at 10 hr in the arcuate nu. of hypothalamus. In the tail - flick test,formalin attenuated opioids - induced antinociception. Increase of POMC was also observed after systemic morphine and attenuated by naltrexone. Thus,formalin - induced increase of hypothalamic POMC may be mediated by endogenous opioid system. We further examined alterations of signal molecules. pERK was increased within 30 min and remained at a high level up to 10 hr in the arcuate nu..pCaMKII was increased within 2 hr but decreased at 10 hr. However. POMC mRNA expression was reduced by pretreatment with PD98059 or KN93. Furthermore. pIkB was increased at 2 hr and remained at high level up to 10 hr. Using confocal IF. we confirmed that cells contain beta - endorphin after formalin also express pERK. pCaMKII and pIkB. In conclusion. POMC mRNA expression in arcuate nu. of hypothalamus induced by intraplantar formalin may be mediated by pERK as well as pCaMKII. Furthermore. NFkB pathway may play an important role in the regulation of POMC gene expression.
